What a nightmare to assemble, but we did it. J is 77, and I'm 67 so took us all morning 😢, but thanks to your video, we knew what to do. Part was inexpensive on Amazon. The window is over kitchen sink, awkward to reach 😳 ! Was going to replace other side while the window was out. Just couldn't go thru that again. Really appreciate your instructions.

Great job! This would be great for other uses. Question, can we make it less wide to attach a 6' gate door to this abor? Would you need to beef up the wood being used? Would your build be good for a standalone on concrete slab? This would be a great update video idea! Thanks in advance for the feedback!!!

Just clean off the mower deck with a small pressure washer BEFORE you mow, not AFTER you mow. If AFTER, use compressed air. In any event, don't clean it every time. I clean mine about every five years! The outside of the motor was so caked on you couldn't see it!

I hate these kinds of toggle bolts. When you have more than one hole that you want to run your toggle bolts thru, it becomes ridiculously impossible to use both the bolts at the same time. Let alone the stupidity of pulling the object to tighten the bolts. Stupid design if you ask me.

thanks. very useful. did you pressure wash just the boards you replaced? how long did you wait before you sealed? should the deck be painted to make it last longer?
@dwcoffey2 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching, Luisa! After I got all the boards replaced, I let them sit for about 2 weeks, then pressure washed them (don't use too much pressure or it will make the boards 'fuzzy'). Once they are all good and dry, I seal them with Cabot's or Thompson's. I don't paint mine because I like the more natural, sealed look.

Thank you for sharing this. Do you have to block both blades? I blocked the blade I was trying to replace and the other still turned. I never could get the dang bolt loose with a breaker bar.
@dwcoffeyКүн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I don't block both my blades, just one does the trick. Some blade bolts are left hand thread and some are right hand, so if you can't get it to budge, try the opposite direction.

@dwcoffey6 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! No, the only way to open the door is to remove the wedge. Even with a key from the outside and turning the knob, the door can't be opened with this lock in place.

I have the same unit with over 400 hours on it and I'll give you my two cents. Bought new from Lowes. The engine, if maintained properly just won't quit! Starts easy but it's louder than I would like. The exhaust exits forward of the front axle. Now for the drawbacks and tips. Changing the oil is a messy business! Remove the drain plug and oil paints your frame and deck! Install a 1/4 turn ball valve on a short nipple in the drain hole. Add a barb hose fitting on the end and your golden. When it's time to change the oil, put a hose on the barb fitting and the other end in the catch pan. Turn the valve and watch the dirty oil fill the pan without spilling a drop! The transmission release wire in the back is TOO THIN! It often folds when attempting to re-engage the drive! My trans was sticking in forward and would not reverse! Had to tear it all down, clean the grunge from the sheaves and lube the sheave ramps with EP lithium grease. Now, the engagement is smooth and it transmits power well. Blade R/R for sharpening is a pain but I got a solution! Unplug the headlights (who mows in the dark?) and remove the hood. I put a chain from one frame rail over the forks of my tractor and hook to the other frame rail. Raise the forks and I get plenty of room to work under it without damage to the body or worrying about bending the parts sitting on the jack stands. When leveling your deck, measure from the reference surface (flat asphalt or concrete) to the cutting edge of the blade both front to back and side to side. This will reduce scalping in turns and provide a smoother cut. Without power steering, this thing will wear you out! Put Torington needle bearing washers between the steering knuckle and the axle; makes turning it at slow speeds easier.

Do you pull the the rod back out when done?
@dwcoffey6 күн бұрын
Good question, thanks for watching. No, the plunger allows the rod to pass thru it while maintaining pressure on the grease, so the rod is released and pushed into the grease gun.

You can get grease guns now that you just screw the grease tube on so no need to open anything, this grease gun is old school and a waste of time, he makes it look easy had one of them and you get covered in grease and some times the tube is too big to get in it drove me mad and dumped it in a rage

Good video. I might add two things. When greasing the steering kingpins I always raise the front of the machine and let the wheels and axle hang free so that the grease gets into the contact areas. There also is likely a fitting in the middle of the front axle to lubricate the pivot. If you jack up the machine by the frame it will unload this area allowing the grease to get into the contact areas. By doing this maintenance the tractor will steer like new for a long time. Thanks for posting.

I like 2" blade height. I have plastic caps from spray paint cans that are exactly 2" high, I slip them under the blade tips on the ends side to side, then a little less in the front blade tips turned to the front, and a little more with blade tips turned to the rear. Yep, getting a tape under there is a hassle. Look around, plastic caps are in all sizes, or you could cut some pvc or something.

I just completed installing the side rails to the frame, but the door is stuck in the middle where the latch is (won't open). The door will move top and bottom, but the middle section is jammed. Any thoughts? I popped the orange handle holes and disengaged the orange door holders. I don't want to break it, but forcing it doesn't seem like an option.
@dwcoffey2 күн бұрын
I'm sorry I'm just now seeing this. Hopefully you got it fixed. Sounds like there may have been a screw or a shipping fastener holding it from the backside edge of the door frame. Thanks for watching!

@@dwcoffey Thanks for responding. I reached out to Andersen and they instructed me to loosen the non hinge side to dislodge the door. It worked. From there I refastened, removed the final orange bottom retainer clip and the door works smooth.

On my Husqvarna yth24v48 my deck has an adjustment linkage on both sides. I take it that I would have to adjust both sides to raise the deck. Also do I also need to adjust the front adjustment?
@dwcoffeyКүн бұрын
Nice, I like having an adjustment on both sides. I would set the height with the rear adjustments and then set the front to be slightly lower than the rear (about 1/4" to 1/2" lower).

I found a loose and broken tension spring (at least that’s what I think it is) when I was cleaning the mower deck. Is it simple to replace? Can you offer guidance. Thank you.
@dwcoffey2 күн бұрын
If you have both halves of the spring, most good hardware stores will have a spring selection and might be able to match it. If you have the manual for your mower, you can sometimes find the part numbers in the manual, look the correct spring upon the internet and find a replacement. A great resource, if you don't have a manual, is Jacks Small Engines. They have parts diagrams for most models. Thank you for watching, Susan!
