It's much easier than it used to be. Used to take days or weeks to learn an area, now with google maps it only takes a few minutes to get to know an area. Lake survey maps only take a minute to look up. They are out dated but still give you an idea of what fish are there. Spend a little time googling and you will be well on your way. Thanks for watching.

Sorry, we give out locations. If you are in the Rangeley area, Mooselookmeguntic has salmon and trout. Also Lac Aziscohos has both trout and salmon. If you are looking for smaller ponds for trout, Sandy river ponds or Haley might be an potion. Hope that helps.

Your not kidding about big browns at night. I used to go out April first at midnight for opening day Maine trout season for twenty plus years. I always caught my biggest browns before daylight. Once the sun came up and people started showing up I would go get breakfast. Then I would go troll for salmon.

Winnipesaukee smelt, or red gray ghost for trolling for salmon. ( sometimes with a small half copper/ silver dodger in front of them). The DB smelt in silver with black and purple stripe on it has been very good for me for hard tackle. I’ve had good luck on copper or black if the silver is not working. Great video guys. Nothing like getting outdoors with friends and family👍

We don't give out locations that we fish. We were using monkey puke spoons trailing a snell hook with worms. The fish seemed to be hanging in about 20' ft of water. We were trolling about 1.0 mph, ( keeping the spoons just off bottom.) Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

When they are tapping your bait , grab the line and slowly bring in a couple of feet ,then let it go. This gives him a chance to grab it. U could slightly slow up your speed. I start out at 2.

Love my Cold Water reels, been running one of them for 7 seasons now (the first two were in a kayak where they were constantly wet but the last 5 in my boat); they're the best reel for the money IMO. How do you guys like those Chamberlain releases?
@PineStateHunter
@PineStateHunter 4 ай бұрын
Out of the four I bought I've only got one that I need to send back due to free spool lever breaking, something inside doesn't allow it to lock in to retrieve. The Chamberlain releases are tricky to set up at first if you don't know what you're doing, but they do the job well.

Interesting..I've not seen anybody troll with shiners. I'd love to know what your basic setup is (no secrets); is it just a shiner on a bait holder hook with a couple of split shot? I've got a large lake near me in VT that is a good Brown fishery but at times they get a bit finicky and I'd love another option to try there. Also, love to see you fishing with your father. My father passed years ago but I still think about the fun we had fishing every time I go out. Thanks for the video.

You might want to consider a Mack's Double D Dodger when you stack lines, you can set them so they act like planer boards. There's several you tube videos about them. I'm thinking you run them on the deep rods and run the top rods straight back. Let me know your thoughts. I'm running thru your Playlist videos today

They say if you let out 100 ft of line it planes 18 ft to the side them drop the top line back 50-60 ft and the bottom line should clear the top and drop straight back, but that's just my theory

Water gin clear.. there's plenty of big trout up 20 pounds and lots of coho . They stopped kings but Canada still stocking normally few caught... mostly Atlantic thing .. water is gin clear.. pays 12k first place but there normally a donations like side by side.. our boat has all the modern equipment ...

The Great Lakes are definitely on my bucket list! I just don't think I'm going to be able to make that happen anytime soon. Is trolling live bait not permitted? It sounds like a great fishery to experience one day. Thank you for the invite.

@@PineStateHunter it's legal no one does it.. waters gin clear now from the mussels. Lk trout are 400' deep .. anything over 20 pounds it's feeding deep on bloaters . Those Atlantics like 60 degrees like the steeelhead and brown trout.. browns and Atlantics both get up over 30 pounds. Only makes sense live bait.

I'm so glad I found your channel. Instant subscriber! Since I am just getting into trolling for LL salmon, I'm trying to make sure I have my rig setup properly. Do you mind explaining in a very "dumbed down" detail how you rig your line (piece by piece)? I have a trolling rod with lead core line followed by 20 feet of fluorocarbon line. From there, do you tie the following: fluoro --> #2 barrel swivel --> dodger --> 2' to 6' leader --> sliding rig or sewn on smelt? Or is there more line between the barrel swivel and the dodger? If I have a 30 inch sliding rig, is that part of the 2' to 6' leader after the dodger? Also, what pound test do you use for each section? Thanks!
@PineStateHunter
@PineStateHunter 4 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! Ok so we will start at the end of the leadcore I like to use 18 or 27 pound Sufix leadcore line. this ensures when i get caught on bottom my main line leader breaks before the leadcore does. If your leadcore is brand new or you havent been caught on bottom (causing the sheathing around the leadcore center to cinch down making it impossible to remove on some brands) you should be able to slide the Dacron sheathing back down the leadcore 6 to 10 inches, break the lead off and pull back down the dacron sheathing, enough to tie on a pline dura-max hi-speed rolling treble swivel (i cant remember the size). Then I tie on the 25ft 12 pound Fluorocarbon main line leader, then I tie a ball bearing swivel with interlock snap. This some what prevents line twist from there i put on the dodger followed by 24 to 36 inch sliding rig or Maine Pro Series size 6 Emerald Smelt sewing hook 8 pound test, it comes in 5ft leaders so you will have to cut it down to size.

It can be a struggle to find smelts in the spring. Eric has a freezer converted for bait. When they start getting scarce he'll fill the freezer so we have a stock pile. Big thing is to keep in touch with bait dealers so you know when they will stop getting them. We also stock up on preserved smelts for when we can't find live ones. Thanks for watching.
