I have a X-300, and about 57 other cameras. I don’t see any great advantage of the 700 over the 300; the main difference seems to be the lack of program mode, both do manual mode and aperture priority. The Canon ae-1 has shutter priority while most users prefer aperture priority. ae-1 cameras also sell for silly money, sometimes more than the a1. I don’t have a ae-1 but I do have the al-1 which has aperture priority and also has focus assist, two large red arrows and a green blob, which is useful with my failing eyesight. Minolta are every bit as good as the four ‘big’ names, Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Olympus. All made small, lightweight cameras with electronic shutters and auto exposure and manual modes. I think I would rate the ae-1 lowest, but it does have it’s good points. The other four I would rate about equal; each has advantages and disadvantages.

Thank you for another great film review! I finally got around to scanning some of my Pro Image 100 rolls I got back from the lab (digital camera scans with VALOI easy35) - very happy with the results. For me this is plenty good enough for what I'm using film for, and worth the slightly higher price over Gold 200, imho. I might rarely get a roll of Ektar or Portra for a special shoot/occasion, but Pro Image 100 will mostly be my 'go to' for color film... 🙂📷

There's no such consumer or professional film thing... even gear at certain points; it's all about the person who does photography that makes a photograph different. 🎉 They're all gimmicky promotional products for their sales. 😊

This film practically gives a whole new meaning to an ‘all purpose’ film since you have that middle ground of it being a good film for taking snapshots and also using it for professional/commercial work with it. I have yet to shoot this film but from the images I’ve seen, it looks really good when it comes to the color rendering and fine grain.

I was in Czechoslovakia allot just before the wall fell dureing the fall and the years after. I went down with tri-x and kodachrome. I came back with Foma. My dad became Foma agent selling to retailers here in Sweden. And also sold Foma paper and Emaks paper. Then there was Efke which sadly was purchased by american golddiggers and the company ruined. But the greatest discovery back then in todays Czech republic was a very old kind of positive color film called Fomachrome. Those were the days! I miss it, and i miss Agfa portriga paper.

I just took a roll of 36 my granddaughter , with the ilford Delta professional lol I've taken a lot of 35 mm color but it's my first time using the black and white and my first time using my Nikon F4 , and first time using the Nikon ED 80- 200mm lens lol , so it's going to be interesting how the pictures turned out of my granddaughter , my intentions were only going to take 7 to 10 pictures .. I took the whole roll of 36 , I only had only had one roll of ilford Delta 100 it was newly required Nikon 4f I have never used the lens before lol

This is lush, looked like you had an amazing time in London. @eclectachrome gifted me some of this film and still not yet shot it, I have been waiting for the perfect location and day… which in England doesn’t really happen… however it’s looks like you caught England on one of its good day. Amazing photographer, you know exactly how to capture the essence of the places you visit 🙌

yup, low light is definitely not your friend with these. Best shots I got on these were in bright sunshine. But never actually tried this with a BW roll, I can see how that could give you a cool result, will have to try that

Li!e most of Adox branded films, I doubt very much if Adox actually manufactured this film. In any case, its an interesting film if it ever materialises.

Adox just bought a film production line in Switzerland which formerly was Agfa (maybe inbewteen Harman/Ilford owned it, that I don't know). At least their b/w film is on the market regularly but could of course be made from Foma, Agfaphoto or Ilford. As this is still their "mission" to one day make a regular color film I don't think it should be too bothering if this film hasn't been made in Switzerland by them (AFAIK they only bought it recently, and as ColorMission apparently is years old, that wouldn't fit anyways). Considering if ORWO made their film (like it's assumed ORWO makes many films for Lomography) it would make sense that a "batch" has been made of some sorts. ORWO today only produces film for a few weeks each year at the ORWO production line in Wolfen. That production line today is owned by Polaroid and ORWO basically rents it back to produce their films. For me this just shows what a tiny, tiny market film photography today is. Even while the "film resurgance" is true and happening. You get ORWO all around the world from Europe, USA and Australia. And they do this by producing it a few weeks each year! So I just guess, as was said in this video, that Adox ordered some batch from whomever, maybe a production of 5 days, freezed it and sold it off until now.

@@lelandfitz1762 Adox announced last month that they will no longer offer the CMS 20II, granted it is not a very popular film but it just goes to show. As for ORWO, the new owner of the coating factory has limited the production due to cost of electricity, apparently. I can only assume that this also is being blamed on the war in Ukraine, like everything else. In the final analysis it makes no difference but the fact remains that film is getting more and more expensive and the chemicals even more rare ( I have been waiting for over three months for Ilford to restock the Perceptol and ID11, two of the most popualr and basic developers available ) and the film market is on the decline. Sad times for film photography.

Yeah Elektra is Kodak Aerocolor, similar to santacolor, i get bulk rolled aerocolor, its my favorite film right now other then Kodak Ektar.

I really love it for sunny days, so sharp! Haven't tried ektar yet since I only shoot 100 iso rarely but it is high on my list for next fils to try :)

I like this film very much. As for its origin one only has to look at the published spectral sensitivty curve by Rollei that shows a very high response to the blue portion of the light spectrum. This alone indicates that it is neither a kentmere nor AgfaPhoto APX, but that it is more similar to the Adox's CHS100 which itself is an Orthopanchromatic film. In any case, it makes beautiful photographs. Well done on your effort.

Thank you so much! I need to shoot it again now that I know what to expect from it, to really get the most out of it. I shoot BW film so rarely that I think I think I'm not doing the film justice. So this is more of a first impression point of view. I think you are on point with the CHS100! I looked at some sample photos and there is definitely a very strong resemblance.

These types of cameras serve plenty of purposes these days 1.) If you don’t own a point & shoot camera, these cameras will do great. 2.) If your primary camera is forgotten at home while on vacation, you can easily pick one up at a drug store, department store, etc. and take great pictures 3.) Single use cameras are great for guests to use at birthday parties, weddings, any kind of event where you don’t want to risk your equipment being damaged I’m glad to see single use cameras still around today

Agreed on all points! They are so fun and it's just a whole different photography experience. Not the same quality as proper point and shoots but I like the aesthetic. And perfect for parties! I went on a trip with a friend she doesn't do photography and gave her one to use on the trip, making a video about it soon. It's a great gateway into film photography.

Photos were great, and even the ones you don't like serve as a reminder of the trip. I always laugh when I thumb through all the negative storage binders I have filled over the last two decades of shooting film - usually a roll or two a week. Everything from 110 to 4x5. Literally thousands and thousands of poorly planned, poorly executed, and poorly composed pictures that a large percentage have defects due to me poorly developing or scanning. Total and complete waste of money and effort to someone else - however I just embrace it and revel in the fun I have skewing the universal constant of "good."

You are so right! I never regretted a single penny I spent on film photography (except for the rolls that I completely messed up to the point of losing all photos haha) Some of the "worst" photos I end up really liking over time. And like you said, they are always memories, and they "store" these memories so much better than iphone photos, they take you right back into the moment. So even if its just for my eyes, I will always treasure them :)

I don't unfortunately, looking into some DSLRs now because although I'm a film junky I really want to learn to shoot portraits for example and it would be a much quicker learning process with digital, as you have immediate feedback, more attempts etc.

I think that you will diversify your camera collection in the future. Adding an all weather Olympus compact AF, auto load and auto aperature with flash for winter and rain. I currently have about 25 cameras. I am exposure testing 6 for a 35mmc article. Give yourself credit, I no longer shoot in the rain or winter. Last time I shot in the winter was in Colorado where it is almost always sunny.

Oh wow, 25 cameras! Yes I just got myself an AF point and shoot with flash and I already know this will be a life saver in so many situations. I am very attached to my first and only camera but being this minimalistic is not always the answer :D

ROLLEI RPX 100 is one of the best film out there, and his sister the RPX400 is also amazing. For better results use an incident light meter and develop yourself the film

Yes I think the 400 will fit my needs much better, and I can't wait to use that one next. But loved the 100, it was a beautiful surprise of a film. I am not that knowledgeable on BW film, I shoot it very rarely, but I am confident that I will use the RPX again and again!

This is a negative film. It is not magenta, but your settings for scanning it may be off. Some of the programs have difficulties interpreting negatives with no orange mask. No scanning or even RA-4 optical printing is ever done with zero filtration.

Yup I did notice that there is a big difference depending on which lab I. have it developed and scanned in. I really have to get into scanning my own film because that could help me really personalise the results over time

Expose for the shadows, develop for the highlights. This is why I recommand you strongly to develop yourself your films. It is very easy. You dont need any darkroom. Dilution matters, it will lead to sharpness or tonalities. Stirring matters as well.

Yes! I do have to learn to develop myself, have not taken the leap yet, and I'm a little intimidated by it, because I am scared of ruining my roll, but I am so curious about giving it a try. Will definitely do so in the coming weeks.

These are nice photos. Out of all the film photographers I follow on here you have some of the perfectly exposed photos . Many will pull highlights in post. I always take my film to a lab. They can do a way better job then me if I home developed. Pro image was around in the US around 2010 I believe then it was discontinued. I bought a 5 pack then and kept it in my fridge. About 2015 or 2016 I took photos of friends of mine outdoors on a cloudy day. The film was expired. They were some of the nicest photos I took. So when it came back again. I bought 2 5 packs before the prices went up. I still have expired rolls from the first pack from 2010. I use expired and fresh film. My favorite film is Kodak Ektar. I love saturated film .

Thank you so much for your kind words! I also take the photos to the lab and to be honest I barely touch them once developed and scanned. When I like the film I feel that anything I could do to it editing/pushing/pulling will just make the photos look less good. (Maybe because I am very bad at editing haha but always feel like less is more when it comes to film photos). I have a roll of Ektar in the fridge right now, have yet to try it because I'm a bit intimidated by it and its price tag haha, so I am waiting for a perfect occasion to shoot it. But I am so excited to see the results. Looks like such a gorgeous film. And yes the Pro Image is actually one of the most stable film stocks, should not really succumb to time or heat that much. I am making a video about it now, and turns out it was actually made to withstand more "extreme" conditions, so I feel like that one will still be good in your fridge after many years :)

Hi!! I haven’t activated tried it yet. I tried the rollei RPX 100 just recently and will make a video about that soon. That one was a little softer than the foma. Slightly less contrasty. I really like the look! I will try to experiment with the 80s a little and male a video about that once I do! :))

It could be possible that Fujifilm 400 is a form of Kodacolor VR 400, my other guess is that Kodak made this film based on Fujifilm’s color profiles/specifications. As much as I want to think it’s the second option, we never know at the end of the day. Regardless it’s good that we have at least an option for a consumer grade 400 film

That's an interesting theory! I wish it was the latter too, but tbh I think it is more likely the first, a Kodak film but slightly recalibrated for Fuji, because the colour palette just seems so different to the Fuji one. And the curves of the new fuji film are so similar to the Kodak ultramax curves... But I agree 100%, at least we have another 400 speed film, and who knows.. maybe more the come. 🤞🤞 Thank you for your insight and for watching of course 💗

I think it was Washi F I decided to take out on a night stroll with Holga and point up at street lights. The film does not have an anti halation layer, which gave a really fun effect. Although you might not want to try that.😂 The other ones I don't think I have tried, but I am currently looking into Washi W. And of course Washi X which led me to this film here. I'm always curious about colour films that can be processed as slides. Also I think I might have to see if I can get some more f and point it at some more street lights at night. For science of course. Thank you for sharing your images and your thoughts. 😊

I just shot my first roll of film(Kodak Gold) with this camera. When there’s enough sunlight I was pretty happy with the results. When rewinding the film there was a lot of resistance and clicking. It didn’t sound good and I was afraid it was going to break. Was it smooth rewinding for you? Not sure if I want to chance another roll in the camera. Film is so expensive now!

nope.. the rewinding was not smooth at all, the little mechanism just doesn't hold on to the film well 🥲 I personally won't put another roll in it because I already know it will get ruined... and like you say, it's too expensive to waste. But glad you got some good photos with it! I did too at the start but it's such a hit or miss. and seems to get worse over time, so not picking that one up again unfortunately
