I own to custom 7 string bases. Was thinking of buying the Ibanez BTB7MSNML, which is multi scale. I would rather beat up on an Ibanez than my customs that cost thousands. I'm wondering where they cut cost on these basses. I noticed that the Ibanez BTB7MSNML is a single truss rod, that's one place they've cut cost. I don't know why anyone would make a 6 or a 7 string bass with a single truss rod, that's just gonna wrap all over the place.

Possibly… If the neck is built well then it shouldn’t. Also, I use Kalium balanced tension strings on most of my basses so that should also help. The Ibanez’s felt very solid to me and the BTB7, being 11 years old now, was still arrow-straight and flat. I don’t think it would have any issues. However, I do agree that 6 and up should probably have two, just in case.

Now that's a bass. Take back the low end from 8 string guitars and let them tune A E A D G B E A. I like the timbre of a bass's higher strings instead of an 8 string guitar's low F# string. As a guitarist, I'm still waiting on Floyd Rose to make a multi scale floating bridge with a shorter A string so the high A can be pulled sharp without breaking. The Dean Rusty Cooley custom model had a 23.5" high A string but was fixed bridge. My guess is if an 8 string with a high A is made the low A string will be 25.5" and the high A will have to be less than 23.5" for when the bar is pulled up a major third. That will probably mean some sharply slanted frets.

The overview and clip of me playing it (badly I might add) is on my channel - also, I need to replace a string on the Galveston. Surprisingly, I’ve not been able to source a .030” high C string for it. But - my plan is to mod it so I can run a .200” low F# like my Conklins. The string-through-body thing is preventing me from doing that. Lemme know if you can’t find the 9 - I want to replace its strings also; once I play it again for a while I can do another video of it. Do you find this bass to be heavier or balance differently than the BTB747 model due to the solid maple body?
@ericrasmussen4691
@ericrasmussen4691 3 ай бұрын
The 747 weighs 10.6 lbs, and the 7 weighs 10.8 lbs - virtually no difference between them. I haven't played either of them for a long period of time as I normally play my Conklins but, that said, they are lightweights compared to the Conklins and are pretty easy to wear. Credit that long upper horn, which helps a lot. Between the two I can't tell much difference. I may strap them on later when I have the time and report back if I feel any difference or not. They are essentially the same body shape/style so I wouldn't think so.

I think Wolf's parent company - is it Raven West?? - is making a new seven string that has fanned frets. Not sure so don't quote me on that. I did just pick up a Galveston 8 string unpaired (meaning wide neck) bass off Reverb, and I hope to get some video of that out here soon. Coincidentally, Guitar Center also has one for sale right now, and they are somewhat rare. I've been waiting for mine for over a decade. I mention it because if you like lots of strings, it's a great option - it's a solidly built bass like the Wolf, better in some regards. The body is bigger so neck dive is much less, if any at all. However, I plan on devising a solution for the string-through-body configuration, as that prevents me from stringing it with a thicker, low F# string. Otherwise they are solid and well built.

Oh man, it's a great rig! Stacking it tall gets the sound up to where I can hear it and adds beef to the tone - you can probably hear the snare drum rattling in the background. My other 'favorite' cab is a SWR Henry the 8x8. Those have more clarity than a fridge and plenty of low end. The PJB stack has noticeably more clarity than ol' Henry at the expense of some bottom end, but it cuts through a mix like nothing else all while sounding full and balanced. At an outdoor show I did in January my sound guy said that he didn't have to put much of me in the FOH system as the sound was pretty evenly spread out front - not something I expected, especially since multi-driver cabs - like 410's - can beam the sound in one direction.
