I remember listing to this tune in 1955 on late night late night show.. My dad was in the Army at Arlington Hall VA and mom worked as a waitress in Annandale VA .. I stayed up late waiting for her to come home one night.. I watched the Late Show and the music .. until she came home.. when she did we would count the change she got for tips she got as a waitress.. I remember dad came out for the bed room asking why I was up.. I told him I missed mom.. he smiled and went back to bed.. Good memories of a good time..

I'm sure that's the way it was written. I played in a jazz band in college, we practiced constantly. He would have never made a "mistake" like that.

Good one, John. I also (b. 1957) recall it fondly as the theme for “The Late Show” (from those rare nights when my parents would let me stay up late)Those were the days…pre-cable or satellite! Cheers..JT

This song was played for the late movie (after the news) circa 1964 and beyond in New Jersey - and my parents and grandparents had to make sure to turn down the TV volume or it would wake me up every night!!!!!

Hey Chicago and Syracuse…same for me. I grew up in central New Jersey, within range of NYC stations. I can’t hear this piece without associating it, fondly, with that fine programming (pre-cable or satellite!). Those were the days! Cheers
