i worked myself backwards when it came to prog... got into bands like Opeth, Meshsuggah and Mastodon in my teens and wanted to know where the inspiration came from. Jethro Tull, Rush, Genesis are in my constant rotation of music i listen to now. Cant believe i slept on it for so many years.

Awhile back I mentioned to you that Crime Of The Century didn’t really move me. After talking to my dad he convinced me to revisit it, as well as the rest of Supertramp’s stuff and I’ve come to enjoy it a lot more. It became one of my “early morning” albums, if that makes sense.

There's so many contenders for this title that one has to ration it out. First of all, slagdonna the vile; no one with half a brain and who can actually stave off the might of major societal indoctrination (i.e. VERY goddamn few of you, then!) would actually even rate this trash as an artist in the first place so it shouldn't actually be considered as one, but everything it's ever done is not only always forgiven for being worse than beyond shite but it actually CELEBRATED as the very opposite, which just goes to show how degenerate the human race generally is-and thick with it, and utterly lacking taste and a sense of reality. Slagdonna, Paul Weller's crap bands, The Police and all Sting albums, Phil Collins albums, THESE are some of the most overrated albums ever. So are all of Eurythmics albums, all Madness ones, all Whitney Houston and Wet Wet Wet ones, All Siouxsie And The Banshee ones, all Bee Gees, Led Zeppelin and Eagles ones. All Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson albums. All Depeche Mode albums, especially every one released since 1986 and it gets worse every year. Every Pet Shop Boys album. All Bon Jovi and every heavy metal record that was ever worshipped. And almost EVERYTHING EVER released by ANY so-called 90s and beyond "artist" up to now, as everyone over-acclaims EVERTHING, people have lost or frightened off the art of being subjective or just sensible any more. At the end of the day, there will always be more overrated and over-acclaimed albums then EVER justifies such a nonsense claim. I can't think of ONE album in my collection that's EVER been overrated, it just doesn't happen.

Città Frontale is new to me. I will definitely check them out. Olias of Sunhillow is one of my favourites as well. I bought the album when it came out and I still listen to it more often than most Yes albums, I think. Behind you I see Osibisa’s first album. Great music with an iconic Roger Dean cover. I was in my early teens when it came out, and it was one of my first introductions to African music.

Great List! I've listened to most of these, but not quite all yet, some really great stuff here. I was a bit surprised that Barock Project wasn't higher on the list, as I thought that would really resonate with you. It's near the top of my list, as is Big Big Train. But my new favorite album of the year (so far) is not prog at all. It is the brand new album from Guster - Ooh La La, a fantastic album of beautiful songs, melodies, and arrangements, a low-key masterpiece that is a real grower. Anyway, here is my list of top 20 faves so far this year: 20. Dirt Poor Robins - Firebird 19. Karfagen - Messages From Afar-2nd Nature 18. Sykofant - s/t 17. Returned to the Earth - Stalagmite Steeple 16. Sleepmakeswaves - It's Here, But I Have No names For It 15. the Decemberists - As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again 14. Emerald City Council - Motion Carries 13. Azure - Fym 12. Kyros - Mannequin 11. IZZ - Collapse the Wave 10. Airbag - The Century of the Self 9. Steve Hackett - The Circus and the Nightwhale 8. The Pineapple Thief - It Leads To This 7. Mandoki Soulmates - The Memory of Our Future 6. Rick Miller - One of the Many 5. Bend Sinister - Mostly Great Things 4. Albion - Lakesongs of the Elbid 3. Big Big Train - The Likes of Us 2. Barock Project - Time Voyager 1. Guster - Ooh La La (Not Prog at all, but my new fave, fantastic songs, vocals, and arrangements. Low-key, but wonderful songs that build into joyous evocative treats).

As far as I'm concerned, the best thing you ever got in the mail is the tour program for Tales From Topographic Oceans tour. The only thing that would beat that is a DVD of Yes performing a show with all of Tales in it. Supposedly it was filmed, but that it went missing after the concert. Somebody stole it and sitting on it all these decades. There's a deep dark hot place in hell reserved for who stole that.
