Hey there! Wouldn't it be better to remove the wheel and hairspring from the balance cock, make the adjustment and then install it again? I see many chances to make very bad mistakes in a regular sized watch or smaller movement. Thoughts? Btw I've going to watchmaking school since march so I'm by no means an expert, just wanted to ask you, thanks for sharing!
@TimelyMatter12 күн бұрын
That would definitely be the best way to do it! But you have to adjust it many many times, because it is such a precise adjustment. It would just take longer doing it that way. “The proper way”

Thanks! Super helpful video. I just did an Elgin 313 restoration, and everything is running correctly, except that the balance is really slow, similar to what I was seeing at the beginning of your video. I'll try adjusting the beat error, and see if I can't get it to speed up and run accurately.

I hope you can! Balance work is very tedious. Good luck!

I had - I think it was a Timex - that looked just like that. Lasted for years & sold it later with my accumulated 'collection." I haven't had a pocket watch since, but have a retirement Charles Hubert railroad Watch #3756-GRR on the way!

I love that in her and finneas' interview with Zane Lowe, finneas talks about teaching Billie how to comp her own vocals and teach her how to record and mix some music herself since until that point he has been producing all their music and then they colab on the their lyrics, she mentions that this album feels the most personal cause it really feels like a collaboration between the two on all levels including production now, loving this new era of billie eilish

Finding my great grandfather's 1923 15 jewel Elgin recently has lead me to a rabbit hole of watch restorations. Thanks for sharing. I am so impressed that these exist with such a level of intricacy and beauty in the craftsmanship.Your respect for the piece and craft shows. My watch still works, but the crystal is yellowed and the face is tarnished. Setting the time is still a mystery to me as the crown winder is reluctant to pull out at all.

I disagree. Here is the counterpart to your watch from Rolex. Yes it's not as blingie inside but once you look at the details, you quickley understand you are at an other level of sophistication . Blued hands even though the presenter thinks thees are new once. Obviously new from Rolex. Look at the details. A blued hairspring in the rolex. The qualety of parts been used and Rolex didn't even make mouvments in-house yet. You can see the amount of qualety Rolex expected from there partners. To say that Hamilton was better then Rolex, probably becaus Rolex is a young brand in relation to Hamilton and at the time all the best watches were made in the USA in contrast to today's made in Switzerland. You need to look at it this way, Hamilton had to compete with Rolex 30 years after its creation just before the 1st World War. Look at who will win in the years during and after the war and who is number one today, having to fight for its spot on the top. How do you fight? You get more and more fancy as you go along. That is what is happening today. Back then Rolex was relatively cheep. At the beginning a Rolex cost a months werth of salary and now? 10 years and more of salary.. its in fact so blown out of proportion that I thing soon the bubble will burst and prices are going to come down. Just like it had to for Hamilton in order to survive. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gJN5mKtls9y0eo0.htmlsi=A858WCRUjDs8o88A

@@TimelyMatter Hi sorry for the spelling. I just corrected it and added the link to the Rolex I was talking about. Look at it verry closely and don't compare the bling. Hamilton was more decorative then Rolex at the time.

Hello, I just bought a watch like this but I have a question if the dial is painted with radium or tritium, could you give me some information? thank you
@TimelyMatter4 ай бұрын
I know it’s a ww2 era clock. I don’t know if it is tritium or radium. Sorry I can be of no help.
@user-er8nx1ib5f4 ай бұрын
The best way to find out is with a geiger dosimeter that reads gamma radioactivity, If it is a radio it will beep and the microsieverts will go up, with tritium the beta emission is very low or non-existent, depending on whether it shines, I am waiting to receive one, as is the watch, but watching your magnificent video I just discovered that the second hand does not It is the original and it is also missing the famous spring in the double gear that allows sweeping and not jumping...... The paint on my watch is an oxidized copper orange, and it's probably radium like yours. I have doubts about returning it.... Greetings and congratulations for your magnificent videos.

As I watch this I'm holding my grandfather's Hamilton 992, another great railroad-grade watch, still ticking away after nearly a century. Also contemplating that the last real Hamilton watch was the LED Pulsar made in Lancaster in the 70s. That was also a very high quality product, put out of business by much cheaper junk. I have one of those on the desk, and it's still going strong too.
