Finding my great grandfather's 1923 15 jewel Elgin recently has lead me to a rabbit hole of watch restorations. Thanks for sharing. I am so impressed that these exist with such a level of intricacy and beauty in the craftsmanship.Your respect for the piece and craft shows. My watch still works, but the crystal is yellowed and the face is tarnished. Setting the time is still a mystery to me as the crown winder is reluctant to pull out at all.

I'm a newbie hobbyist watchmaker and started doing the thing you do holding the screwdriver with the tweezers as you tighten/loosen screws. Haven't had a single screw ping away since. So thank you for that! Haven't seen anyone else on KZfaq doing that but it's a great technique.

I'm glad I could help! Yes I've seen master watchmakers use this technique with high end watches and thought why not incorporate it in my every day overhauls. It really helps! Thanks for the support!

I just found your channel. What a beautiful watch. I have a 1937 Waltham Riverside pocket watch that belonged to my father. Not much history as far as the family is concerned because dad won it in a card game about 45 yrs ago. Beautiful watch nonetheless.

@@TimelyMatter Yeah dad was a card player, amassed a nice collection of Case pocket knives as a result. As dad passed away in May, I can only speculate as to when and how he obtained it as s he never wore it and I know it didn't belong to my grandfather. It's a beautiful watch and runs great however I have no idea as to when it was last serviced. If not for the tarnish on the case you would never guess that it's 85 yrs old.

Great video with excellent editing. Pocket watch repair videos are great for people new to watch repair like myself because it is easier to see how the various parts work together and what their purpose is. I didn’t even notice the lack of narrative after a while but I still enjoy the videos a little more with it. Thank you for posting! Btw-was that watch engraved by hand? It’s beautiful.

Plastic for a crystal oh boy rookie move . I have gotten 3 Vanguards in the last year and all had plastic how cheap that looked . Yellow and ugly scratched deep .

I would disagree with it being a rookie move. There are several advantages to using an acrylic, not plastic, crystal. They are much easier to replace, less expensive and don't explode into a million pieces if impacted due to a drop or whatever. A crystal turn yellow after many decades. A glass crystal does of course give the watch a higher quality look and feel for sure but I think in this instance an acrylic crystal was what was available at time, so that's what was used.
