You can’t see the bass player/main vocalist and the guitar player is blocked by the bassist but the music is actually well done and the sound is pretty good too.

I was 19 and this was a trip of a lifetime. The show, the setup, and those GIANT balls flowing from the front of the stage to the back. So great

My favorite memory of this whole experience was standing peacefully at the orange barricade listening to the sound check. No one wanting to be unruly, everyone who was there just standing there peacefully enjoying the music.

I was a day shy of turning 2 when this happened. My mother said she made sure I was awake when the clock rolled over to 2000. Being in Arizona, we left 1999 around the time they were playing Sand. I can only imagine how intense that night was. Glad I can sit here and listen to it whenever I want here in 2024.

Was there too... drove from Washington State. I saw phish probably 2 dozen times - this was my last show. Life changed and I figured this couldn't be beat. Maybe I'll see them again, not sure...

I grew up 10 mins from where the GW took place. The year prior to that some promoter tried to have a show called Spudstock with these old performers like Eddie Money that was a total flop. Like 2000 people showed up. So everyone thought the GW would be the same. They were all cynical. Of course those of us that were Phish fans and had been to a bunch of shows knew better and just kept saying, “You wait. This is no Spudstock”. The locals were blown away by the number of people that showed. So the next year at the Lemonwheel all the older people went. I ran into my girlfriend’s parents and was like, “Ok this is getting surreal”.

I was there. I remember the drive from Maine. We pulled into a rest area somewhere along alligator alley. I got woken up at 5:30 am to some crazy wook screaming in my face “the gates are open get up!” and that was the beginning of my amazing new years 2000 weekend at big cypress. The best most memorable new years in history

Clearly one of the most important events in the history of modern music, and you could easily argue American culture as a whole. Nothing really epitomized this generation so well despite the fact that Phish was a niche band in some ways. I think their significance stems from the origins of Phish fan culture, which tends toward upper middle class and educated. In some ways you could see this as the high water mark of established American bourgeoisie culture. Everything changed in the 21st century, and America began its speedy descent into ruin. But the energy and beauty and chaos and unique naïveté of American youth is on full display here, turned up to 11. I wish I had been a phan back then, although it might have killed me. Maybe if I had picked Cornell over Georgetown I would have found the weird hippy kids who should have been my friends back then. Sometimes it feels like I’m living in the wrong timeline, like I missed a turn somewhere down the number line and have been lost ever since. I mean look at me in the YT confessional at 2:37am on a Wednesday in an AirBnB because we don’t know where to live. I’m not complaining, just … letting the thoughts out. God bless all you beautiful freaks and geniuses, all you lost souls and wanderers. Who knows, am I right? I really need to find a decent therapist.
