Ive just stated playing 1.7.3 beta and dam it feels like the good old days except for ive never played beta before, my first minecraft was later versions (don't remember which one exactly), so what i wanted to say is i cant help but compare beta to the modern minecraft cause the latter feels so boring and kinda pointless. Beta being so simple actually makes it way more intereating in challenging, now in new minecraft you come corss bunch of villages shortly after starting your game and you already have a year's worth supply of food and even armor, oh and you just steal villagers bed so you dont have to make one yourself, and after that i just lose my interest in the game, but when playing beta i get so excited to stumble on a sheep cause i can finally make my own bed xd the mining, the farming all of it is exciting in beta because the resources are not handed to you an a silver platter

there really isn’t anything bad about old minecraft really, it gives off a unique vibe new minecraft just doesn’t and is way more simpler. the real problem i have with it is that after awhile it just gets boring. Sure that sort of applies to present minecraft but theres a LOT more to do in those newer versions. ppl will always be like “its superior cuz theres no hunger bars or theres no mobs” and yeah you can have that opinion but then wheres the challenge? what do you do after?

not gonna say new minecraft is that good tho cuz while theres a lot more to do the newer content has definitely been lacking 😭

The creepy moments i've had in my beta gameplay: 1. same tunnels you showed 2. A zombie in the mountain cave stopped and looked at me, but I was way too far to be noticed, literally on top of a different mountain (mb i was just too paranoid)

New minecraft feels really boring, played it a little bit and I stumbled upon THREE villages within some 20 min of playing😭 i think this sense of being alone in the vast world is what really makes minecraft so special, beautiful and unsettling at the same time and beta is perfect example of it, just to think of the amount of times I felt paranoid and had to turn around during the daytime to see if there's something behind me... New minecraft just feels too safe and too easy, I've never felt anxious playing it :/

What a joy it was to listen to you talk with such endearment and warmth about Beta Minecraft. You pinpointed exactly why i slowly grew out of playing Minecraft, and only now do I realize how much I miss it. I adore how much you love it's simple and rough design, and I must agree; it IS quite charming! I find myself enamored seeing that someone still find so much value in an old thing, not just despite, but thanks to it's flaws and roughness. It reads as a love letter to old Minecraft, and I would listen to you reading a thousand more...

I feel like old Minecrafts less variety of blocks really pushes creativity, and builds look a lot more how do I put it, organic? But at the same time I love having more block variety in the new versions and it lets me make really amazing looking builds.

the worst part about the new blocks that were added is that as i've gone back to the game, those new blocks don't do anything, if they're supposed to be for decoration they're not good looking either or I struggle to even find a reason to keep them like you said.

5:12 this part resonates with me. I still play my Minecraft world from 2010, but in modern versions Minecraft. I don't keep returning to the world because I beat the ender dragon that one time or because I have lots of end game equipment. I keep playing it because I want to re-visit all the cool stuff I made and add new stuff, which I know I'll continue to enjoy years in the future. I do sometimes struggle a bit to build in newer Minecraft. I'm placed in this already beautiful world, with a million blocks to use and I don't know what to build. I find I rely a lot more on searching Google for inspiration or examples.

ur my new favorite channel. I swear you give me the vibe that I had when I first started watching youtube as a kid. Your content is just so authentic, generally really good, not filled with crap/clickbait and brainrot as most channels post nowadays. You're talking about what made people like minecraft in the first place, like it's core - that's how I feel with your channel like how you bring the vibe of old youtube back and what made people like youtube in the frist place. I hope that makes sense, it's meant as a huge compliment. I feel like good videos like these are so rare to find. - Hope you have a great week

For me, the new textures don't feel unique. They just have this generic-pixel-art-indie artstyle, which a lot of other games use - it's not that distinct from Stardew Valley, Terraria and everything else, as opposed to the old textures.

What turns me off to the game entirely, is the "sameyness" of it all - the world has always felt a mile wide and an inch deep. Nothing unexpected happens other than generation glitches, which isn't interesting to me, and leaves exploration as just another early to mid-game grind. These days, I only find some enjoyment for the first few hours of a world. You make a lot of good points, though, so maybe going back to an earlier version is the refreshment I need.

18:11 maybe because of light levels? not sure but it seems like the only reasonable explanations. like, game checks for X light level in order to determine if a block is going to grass or dirt, and since the ones closest to the lava seem to be the only ones who have a light level higher than 0, they generate as Grass Blocks

2:50 very unrelated but this is the same thing ive been saying about gta4. people love to say "its just nostalgia" yet I never played the game before. how would I be nostalgic for a game I never played? maybe i bought it, I played it, and I liked it because the game was actually good?

I think "wanted it to be real" just about sums up how I felt about herobrine as a kid. The fact Mojang use to add "removed Herobrine" to the changelogs every update helped that, lol!

I personally prefer heavily modded minecraft: I want to travel space, build nuclear reactors, create golems, fly on a broom and tame dragons. That's the biggest charm of minecraft for me, old one gets boring too fast, after you had built everything you wanted.

i still really like playing the 1.7.10 (about the version i started with), 1.8.9 because its the last version of the old combat system, and 1.12 because its the best balance between new and old i think

Modern versions support your creativity by providing more block palettes and options to express yourself, old versions support your creativity by limiting you and making you come up with a way to express yourself.

Old Minecraft offered a basic foundation for thing: trees, water, basic lighting, wood and stone, monsters, carts, you get it... I guess old Minecraft was good because it didn't offer much, but didn't get in our way while still being more than enough for our imagination.... Nowadays, I can only accept that we have grown past Minecraft. Today's Minecraft problem isn't that it has "too much content". It's that the presentation is dissonant. I'm bombarded with random items, for random systems that I don't care. My Inventory is full all the time. Wihtout method, I have little control of what i'll find (strip mining vs explore big caves). Reaching the big goals, like building a city, or big projects like that, is tedious because you're constantly fight the dissonance of the game - inventory is full, sleep or phantoms eat you, farm villagers, then build an xp farm, then enchant enchant enchant... Zero creativity, little intentional story-worth world building... I'd love to see basic systems overhauled: colored lighting, expanded ways to mess with terrain, fix the inventory, better sound effects and physics, more variation on weather and the atmosphere for the game, birds... Fixing the pains in gameplay would be great, but still, what would ultimately save Minecraft should be the fresh, simple and broad features. Those that expose and feed big uncharted parts of our imagination. Can't point at what it would be, but doing it again should be hard.

As some one who likes building large structures in survival. To get that sense of accomplishment from my own goal completion. Gambling on enchanted pick axe effects suck. Being forced into the progression of modern Minecraft and locked there in random rolls sucks. It's worse that I dislike modern combat too. I don't like the fighting aspect. And losing xp to further delay those pickaxe enchants sucks. I want to get large quantities of stone and wood to build large structures, and modern Minecraft is filled with delays and setbacks that make me quit before I'm at that level. This is all why I liked servers. Most places would have vast quantities of excess stone and wood I could use for building projects. I knew people who would see my work and give me chests of building mats to keep it up.

personally i think food not being stackable made everything more difficult. it made it to where you had to carefully plan your excursions outside at night or in a cave. "well it instantly healed you" well yeah but modern minecraft food practically instantly heals you with saturation and add the fact that you can carry like 3 stacks of cooked porkchops without needing to manage inventory in the slightest WITH armor AND a shield you're practically unkillable unless you get caught completely by surprise. old minecraft was harder.
