If you lower the tail wheel a notch or 2 and get it riding on the ground while setting the height with the front it will help. Your front should be about 1" lower than the rear. It will cut and discharge easier and not load up near as much.

Excellent install! I'm getting ready to install the same heater. Is there a requirement for the horizontal vent pipe to be a certain amount of feet below the eaves on the outside? I have the same eaves/building as you. No windows or openings nearby. Thanks!
@journeys-with-joe2 ай бұрын
Thanks appreciate the comment. The directions say vent termination must be 4’ below or 4’ horizontal from any soffit vent. Mine is a little over 3’ which is as far as I could get away. I think the main point is to keep the flue gasses from being drawn into the soffit vent. I put a CO2 detector in the attic for a little while and never had any problems.
@austinw6382 ай бұрын
@@journeys-with-joe that’s what I was thinking too. I’m the same in that I can’t quite get 4 feet from it. My eaves/soffits do not vent inside the building so I assumed there’s no issue. My plumber wants everything inspected after they do the gas line so I’d hate for the inspector to get picky about this when I’ve already cut a hole in the wall for thimble/vent 😂. I’m thinking of just having the plumber run the gas line and cap it, then I’ll install the heater afterward

Did you add a vapor barrier before you installed the metal ceiling panels? I don’t remember you saying anything from your last videos. Thanks!
@journeys-with-joe5 ай бұрын
I probably didn’t mention it much but no I don’t have a vapor barrier between ceiling trusses and steel. Based on everything I’ve found it’s not required or recommended in my climate zone and blown fiberglass doesn’t chemically react with the steel so no issues there either. I have been in the attic a few times this winter and no moisture or condensation issues even when digging out some insulation when I installed the ceiling fan wood bracing it was completely dry. I do have dripstop on the roof metal. Hope this helps!

cheaper option is just adjust the rail to take the play out. You can see the slot on the bracket that the rail attaches too.

Adjusting the rails is certainly an option if they are just misaligned. Mine were not and the springs keep everything from binding which is very important for a shaft driven opener. I say your furnace is doing a pretty good job in low digit temperatures. The garage door is an issue with the draft, I have one 12x12 overhead door and although I've minimized the air flow there's still a little there. I have a 30x80 pole barn with a 14ft ceiling and on a 15-20 degree day two 36,000 BTU mini-splits keeps it at 60 degrees with no problem which is the temperature I like. Most of the time I shut one off and the building will stay at 55 degrees. Insulation is a big factor of course.
@journeys-with-joe5 ай бұрын
It’s a little warmer now in the mid 20’s which is more common for winter in my area and it will keep it at 60 no problem and runs every 20min or so. Yours is a bit bigger building but sounds like you’ve done your homework on insulation and heating as well. Thanks for checking out the video!
@user-pz2bl8bh5n5 ай бұрын
Again, nice job, you do good work, it's always a great feeling when you finish. If I had natural gas where I am I would have done the same thing. Instead I went with two 36,000 BTU Mitsubishi mini-splits. A little pricey but very happy with how they perform, heat and AC.
@journeys-with-joe5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the compliment! I’m curious this season with the added wall insulation if that will keep some heat away. A mini split would be nice and I’m sure they are well worth the cost not to mention AC would be amazing in the summer to have!

Nice job on the ceiling. I have a 30x80 pole barn and I did the ceiling myself using the same tin as you did but used 8 footers because I was working alone I rented a motorized scissor which made the job a little easier but still a lot of work. Did a row of tin then laid 2'x4' precut Rockwool on top, R23 then R15 to overlap the seams for an R39. I built a 24’x40’x12’ carport/shop in 2018. 24’x20’ enclosed, 24’x20’ open on three sides. 10’x8’ door & a 3’ walk through door. I paid someone to do the chert pad, and someone to pour & finish the concrete floor. I did everything else myself, including the building layout, setting the 6x6 posts, and the forming for the concrete, and all the electrical work. It has the bubble wrap insulation under the roof metal, house wrap under the exterior wall metal, and the exterior walls aren’t insulated. It took me three months from start to finish. My father in law helped up to the point the roof was covered. I did the rest on my own. I spent $15,500 in total. I’d hate to know what the same project would cost today.

I see all these pre-fabricated metal garages that seem to be really good prices, but I don't know which to go with. A traditional wood garage or a company like Big Buildings or Morton...or whoever. I'd like to get the project done for ~35K with the concrete, electric, insulation, etc...I also would like a little drainage.

It can definitely be overwhelming with all the decisions to make. Take it a step at a time and be sure to get estimates up front on excavation as that can be a big surprise before you really even get started. I’m not a fan of the metal tube building myself they can be harder to finish out the interior later. Post frame was perfect for me as it wasn’t the most expensive and being all wood framing very easy to work with inside. Best of luck on your journey building out yours!
