Playing it on Switch is fantastic. Try playing the games with a NES or SNES Controller. Especially the 7800 games with the NES controller! Excellent!

I missed the original release of the Atari 50 collection. When this steelbook addition drops, I am so going to snag it!

I already have the Atari 50 on steam , and I will buy the DLC when it will come out , especially interesting to me that they will talk a little bit about the intellivision, the first ever console I got, thanks for the video Jon

Maybe if the trailer for the game wasn't so awful, this would have gotten a better response. But the trailer for this game makes the property look infantile by die hard fan standards. It's a huge step backwards from the quality the Recharged series of re-releases has become known for. The trailer doesn't entice anyone from Gen X to play this, let alone garner interest from new fans. As such, I'm declaring this particular game property dead before arrival.

I doubt the recent generation can even read... I was dismantling appliances and rebuilding them when i was ten, without a manual... That was 1980. They still work.

It there a book to start programming from scratch on the Atari 2600? I´m interested.

I'm 43 years old, and I personally have the belief that old things need to evolve in order to stay relevant. For example, look at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. It's got a totally different art style, has the turtles acting like, and being voiced by, actual teenagers, and it's got a totally different feel to its storytelling. I loved it, and I actually find the old 80s cartoon unwatchable these days! I've been largely unable to truly get into my childhood nostalgia as the old cartoons and games don't hold up anymore to me, though occasionally we get something like Super Mario Bros Wonder which is unquestionably a combination of retro and modern ideas. (Ironically it was my older brother who tried the game and complained "I feel like I've played this before.") I am actually unfamiliar with the original Yars Revenge so I don't see this as desecrating my childhood. But I don't see it as being connected to the old game either other than some references, even if it was allegedly Wayforward who approached Atari with the idea. Finally, I want to point out that reviving old things in a new form is a mega common executive tactic that attempts to bridge audiences to bring in more money. An example is Harriet the Spy. It was a 1964 book, then a 1996 movie, and now it's a 2021 cartoon which goes off in a completely different direction to become a standard (albeit fun imo) slice of life cartoon. It's like executives say "bring back old popular thing" and creative types try to turn it into their own idea. Or the reverse, creative people come up with an idea, then an executive attaches it to a popular franchise (which is where Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order came from). It's just what companies do. Anyway, great video. Thanks for making it!

1983, not a good year for Atari, but was good for anyone who wanted 2600 because there like 5 bucks.

I plan to purchase the DLC. i might buy a copy of the physical edition for my brother. my brother and his wife both have their own switch.

Well that must be one good way to actually learn how a programming language actually works. Making you open a program language interpreter and then type in the code that way and then you get to see it working is very cool.

I plan on it, I'm just hoping the price of the DLC isn't going to get too greedy. In the economy like this is. It's my hope that it stays reasonable. (Say under $20)

Consider myself very fortunate to have had the Apple II back in the day! I sometimes miss BASIC. Wouldn't have a career in software without it!

Unless they add some newly created games, I already paid for the 50th Anniversary Collection for my XBox and was VERY disappointed it is not available for the PC as well using the same license like many other games since the paddle games are a NIGHTMARE to play on an XBox. I'll just use my tons of emulators for the old games on 2600 and 8-bit, Jag, Lynx, ST.

I feel like if I'm paying for it anyway, I'd have to get the new physical with all the updates/expansions, for Switch. 🙂

I’m assuming it’s just me but I didn’t come away from this video understanding any of what’s happening here. That’s not on you, even the text you were reading didn’t really tell me anything. What’s a timeline? Don’t know. What’s Atari 50? Beyond the anniversary and beyond that collection of ten cartridges, don’t know. Then I start hearing about DLC and anything digital, overall, and I pretty much just check out at that point, knowing it’s not for me.

This is so cool I’ll definitely pick up the updated physical release. Very excited for this and the Gamestation Portable this year. I hope we hear more about the latter soon.

I feel like it was a missed opportunity of not including the arcade version of Night Driver, given its historical significance with the company and where the idea came from. I just hope it is one of the new 39 games (especially the arcade version).

I will be picking up the DLC for the Switch original version providing its not silly money. Under a tenner would be the sweetspot for me.

You might see Space Invaders in this version.

Definitely sounds worthwhile and I'm surely interested, but if it's paid DLC even for current owners, I'll wait for more context before deciding to purchase.

I am worried that they will still largely ignore the Atari ST and its games. That is the Atari machine that had the biggest impact in Europe. And by far… :(

This is the system I always wanted in my collection but never managed to get. I had all the Atari consoles, and they were great, but I always pined for the exclusive arcade ports on the Colecovision.

Wondering if they'll sneak Pitfall or H.E.R.O. into the new bundle, not sure I should hold my breath though. Sounds like my GOG account will have new dlc in it in the near future lol.

Bro, will this have Berserk(arcade version)? If so instant buy. That game is a nightmare after level 4. Even as a kid I could play it for an hour on one quarter. I don’t know why, I’m no great gamer, but I instantly understood its mechanics. The 2600 version doesn’t could because even though it’s a good graphical port, it’s a joke regarding difficulty
