question, could you switch out the strings for thicker ones and tune a baritone guitar to BEADGC like a 6 string bass?
@ShawnHeath
@ShawnHeath 7 ай бұрын
I wouldn't go with such thick strings as that on this. This scale length doesn't really support that really low bass B, and for the next octave up, you'd be better off with a standard baritone scale length of 27" or so.

Could I put a normal scale guitar neck on it? Do I have to move the bridge a lot to get that to work?
@ShawnHeath
@ShawnHeath Жыл бұрын
Good question! I can't say for sure, but I doubt that whatever neck you'd try to use would fit in the neck pocket properly, so you'd have to fill that and re-rout it to the shape of the neck heel. Then yes, the normal Talman has a different bridge position than this 30" bass, so you'd need to move it according to the scale length defined by the neck you've chosen. It's probably better to just buy a normal Talman guitar.

@@ShawnHeath Just checked out what you did with the Ibanez Talman. Isn't that a 32" neck? I ask because I've thought of making a wider neck using the 5 string Talman, but I prefer 30" as opposed to 32". Yours seems to have good action. How do you feel about the action? It is 32", right? I could be wrong about that.

@@eidetecker the 305 is a 30" scale. I'm not convinced about that conversion to 7-string though, due to the wider neck to accommodate the 5-string spacing. My action is great!

It looks like, after having bested him in battle, you used the husk of Robocop as a guitar body. His finish in Robocop 2 was especially not dissimilar from what you have achieved. Looks awesome... Seriously, are kits as much sanding as they say (if I'm just trying to get a paint grade finish)?
@ShawnHeath
@ShawnHeath Жыл бұрын
Thanks! This kit comes with a sealer on it, so you can already see if there are going to be inconsistencies in your paint job by holding it up to the light. I didn't find it too difficult, but this more complicated shape provides many difficult edges which you can easily sand through the paint on. Be careful about sanding/polishing too much!

If you move the bridge that may you also change also the number of tones withon the octave. If your half string is now at the 14th fret you are now dividing the octave into 14 notes. Unfortunately 14 equal temperament is not that interesting
@ShawnHeath
@ShawnHeath Жыл бұрын
That's a very interesting idea. I honestly didn't think of it from that perspective, but in any case, I don't think the divisions are correct even for 14 notes per octave. Maybe that's what you mean with "14 equal temperament".
