I tried doing something like this with an adhesive vinyl foam and found that it made the gap too small, which in turn made the window motor struggle a bit. Did you find that the rubber rubbing up against the window slowed the window down (put extra pressure on the motor)?
@MrJackKnight
@MrJackKnight 4 жыл бұрын
Ah, that's too bad. The rubber stripping didn't impact the motor noticeably for me. Perhaps try a little bit of silicon spray along the track?

Good on you, mate! Thanks for the helpful and informative video. The Foresters that were sold here in the States have the same wind noise problem, and your fix saved my wife's sanity (she hated riding in my 2004 Forester for this very reason) and, indirectly, my own. The only hitch was that the Moroday rubber seal material doesn't seem to be available in the U.S. market. But a bit of online searching found a suitable replacement. For any other U.S. Forester owners with the same problem, try the following links to a rubber edging strip made by E. James with nearly the same dimensions as the Moroday rubber strip. www.zoro.com/e-james-rubber-edging-f-style-2364-w-10-ft-enp608304640-10/i/G0298737/ ... or possibly www.grainger.com/product/E-JAMES-10-ft-Neoprene-Rubber-Edging-38EH46 ... Cheers!

I'll add that the short vertical pieces next to the side view mirrors seemed to be the main difference-makers in my case. Putting the rubber seals in place there took out about 90% of the wind noise I was experiencing. (So far I have not needed to super-glue them in place; they seem to stay put reasonably well without it.) Adding the longer pieces between the pillar and rubber seal at the top of the window had little additional effect. There is still slight wind noise at high speeds, but it's like night vs. day compared to what it was before. Now I don't have to turn the radio volume up to 20 to hear music while driving on the highway!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Took under 10 mins, very easy and it's FIXED!!! I haven't used super glue on the upright corner bit yet while I wait to see if it's needed - mine just seems to slot in no problem at the moment and no interference with the windows going up and down at all. If you don't live near a Bunnings (Australia) or it's not available at your nearest Bunnings just check online which store currently stocks it and give them a ring and they will mail it to you (Bateman's Bay sent mine). Total cost was $20 and the best $20 I've ever spent! The stuff you need is by MORODAY - 5m roll - Round Bottom (EPDM) 15mm x 8mm (part no. 2-60003 or Bunnings I/N: 4000041). This easily did both front windows with plenty left if you need any more for later! :D

Yep, worked for me! Just be sure to taper off the edges of the rubber so you get a smooth seal transition.

5/16 inch outside diameter clear vinyl tubing will also work. Many places will sell it by the foot, and should cost no more than $3.

Thanks for the video. Just bought an '03 Forester and first thing I noticed once I got on the highway was the wind noise. This seems like the easiest solution to the problem that I've seen. Gonna purchase some 8mm x 13mm rubber u-channel tubing and hope that's close enough in size to the stuff you used.

This looks like the best solution which makes sense and requires no tools. Will be trying this out when I find something similar to that rubber seal you have. I'm in Canada so my local PartSource or even something online might be helpful. I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers mate
