The blade is well preserved but the handle seems rather bulky. Is it possible given the cracking that the wood has expanded bloating the wooden handle somewhat?
@secretsoftheice2798Күн бұрын
On closer inspection after the field season, it turned out that the handle was made of antler, not wood.

Most of Ulfberht Viking Sword are founded in finland area... Maybe alternative history is going on? Mayor Viking kings are related with Kainuu kinghood (Iceland sagas. (Kajaani) even NOR (Norway) was named after finnish prince. Most Viking age weapons are founded in Finland. Romans, Vikings and Mongol empires wont dare to come here ;) There are you some history.

The exact opposite of LAHT: Found Ancient Low Technology. Absolutely wonderful. I taught skiing for a decade at Coronet Peak. :) 3:57 - 1,300 years old is not prehistoric in any way, but it is very old for a pair of skis.

Here in Norway, it is 🙂 Historical sources only start 200-300 years later than these skis.

It's either 1300 years old, or prehistoric, make up your mind. 1300 years old in that part of the world was the Iron Age.

1:30 shows 2 "flat head screws" on what appears to be on the bottom of the "skis", so I ask how that is thousands of years old because....... In 1744, the flat-bladed bit for the carpenter's brace was invented, the precursor to the first simple screwdriver. Handheld screwdrivers first appeared after 1800.
