What a shame that beautiful animal had to suffer for soooooo many hours because of a misplaced shot... and taken from 35 yards away at that. I think that getting back to the practice range is definitely in order. At least his life was not given in vain....

When a hunter waits until the next day to track down the animal he shot, means the meat is now spoiled, and he is a trophy hunter and should be prosecuted for waste of game meat.

As I watched it initially the first shot looked like liver/maybe a bit of guts, and the second shot sounded like it hit some junk between you & the bull. Arrows do funky things once they bounce off a branch or two.

@@GetOutdoorsNoExcuseswhat unit did you draw . i always put in for the same two every year because i spend the most time there shed hunting and what not the chances of drawing that area are very slim but i run into elk almost every time and have literally stepped right on top of bull that was bedded down scared the hell outta us both lol it would be a dream

@@GetOutdoorsNoExcuses good I shot cow elk one time and only thing was kind didn’t smell right was tenderloin but that could been cause of where arrow went not sure

Time to practice that nock, draw, release in 6 seconds or less not 10+ (like the practice), most animals will give you 3 seconds....They look like this 1.What's that? 2. I don't know. 3 I'm outta here...Very nice timing on that second shot 7 seconds. Did the first one go too low? Can't see the second one at all
@GetOutdoorsNoExcuses5 ай бұрын
Yes it was really fortunate to have a second shot opportunity. Both shots were low, and the slight downward angle from the shooting position also didn't help. Lessons learned for next time to think a little more about the arrow exit and choose an aiming point accordingly.

I hope you can understand that at the end of the day, this was a hunt for meat. Every ounce of meat was utilized from this incredible animal. Keep in mind that the oldest, most mature bulls yield the most meat from any animal within the elk population, and wildlife biologists and managers all agree killing those particular animals has the least impact on the overall herd. Using that logic, in our minds, being a good meat hunter means a person should hunt for the biggest, oldest bulls that provide the most meat, what you might consider a "trophy". This hunt was in an area that is managed by the BC Ministry of Environment to produce large, old bull elk. Applicants for this hunt have about a 1% chance of successfully getting the tag each year. Considering this is realistically a once in a lifetime opportunity, the decision was made to pass the broken antlered bull and extend the hunt. The idea was to make the most of the experience and the goal was to find an old bull with a full rack. We had over a week set aside to go on this hunt. Considering all those factors, passing up the broken bull (mature but not very old) was a logical decision. Yes this was a hunt different from most., it was also one to make an experience out of. All that considered, hunting for the bull with the biggest antlers needs a different label. I would argue your term "trophy hunt" is unfortunately misguided and is often misused, as in this instance.
@MrGarymuldoon5 ай бұрын
@@GetOutdoorsNoExcusesof course it wasn’t, you said the beginning of the video if you didn’t get one that’s fine. Did you not watch it lol? And no that’s not how it works. Taking a bull past it’s prime and regressing, done it’s job in the reproductive cycle is what they speak of should be the target or the best animal to take without effecting herds. This 5x6 is not in that category but congrats on the trophy 👍🏼
