I’ve always loved Victor as a character in the series. This extremely powerful and intelligent vampire that isn’t Dracula. In the other films he is very much an Emperor Palpatine kind of character, moving pieces from the shadows. But I’m RotL, he’s a true leader, a political figure, and a father more allied to his species than to his own blood. I wanted more of this Victor.

The reason why Michael bay did not direct G.I. Joe was because Hasbro had planned to make A G.I. Joe movie before making transformers but then us invaded Iraq and it was seen as bad taste hasbro ended up making transformers directed by Michael Bay instead

Became a fan of the Underworld back in high school (early/mid 00's) and loved the aesthetic and all of the first film. Evolution did feel like more of the same, with some expansion of the world and lore. But Rise of the Lycans had the strength of Michael Sheen as its lead, who's character was already compelling and interesting enough from the original film. It being a prequel set in the medieval times was also a wonderful change of pace. Awakening was, in my view, the worst of the series. Off-screen kill one of the main character from the earlier films, and really take the overarching lore and story in a boring and uninspired direction. Blood Wars was a slight return to form for me. Not as compelling as the first three films, but introduced enough new elements to keep it interesting. What felt weird and off about it and holds it back, however, was the direction they took the lore. The series has always been a bit more scientific with its werewolves and vampires, having them be the result of a mutation of a virus originated in Alexander Corvinus. But in Blood Wars it introduces some mysticism to the world which, to that point hadn't been present in the series. Didn't entirely dislike it, just felt out of place in the world this series had spun up to that point. At any rate, great video. Loved the look back at a movie you originally disliked but grew to like and appreciate over time.

Of all the “real Arthur” theories out there they had to go with the worst one 😂 Garbled version of historical events spanning ~100 years condensed into about a week, absolutely zero inspiration from the earliest legends, comically anachronistic social attitudes, and yet somehow I still like it.

I definitely appreciate this video, and your commentary as always, but I disagree with what was said around 39:47 cuz apart from the (beautiful) scene mentioned, I do think there were little moments here and there throughout the entire second half of the movie where Margot Robbie's performance shows us that she as Barbie is noticing the horrible and beautiful things about being "human." Idk, I haven't actually seen any of Greta's other movies, and that could be entirely on Margot herself (like how you said about Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter essentially being able to "direct themselves" earlier in the video), but I saw a lot of moments where Barbie seemed like she was at least "intrigued" or otherwise drawn to the "real world." I agree that the speech from Gloria (regardless of how true) was very heavy-handed, and that shouldn't have been the "climax" of the film... I still really liked the movie though, and my original point was that I saw moments of Barbie being drawn to the "real world" before the seemingly "sudden" change.... Idk it's hard to explain. (I didn't care as much about Gloria and Sasha as I did Barbie herself, so maybe that skewed my perception a little, as I saw them as more of "plot devices" for Barbie and Ken's journeys, as opposed to actual fleshed out characters... I also laughed my ass off and cried multiple times during the film, both in the theatre and at home, so whatever that's worth lol).

The reason they had to write Cole out of the story was that the actor got the opportunity to star in Nip/Tuck about plastic surgeons. It was a bigger role than his off and on appearances in Charmed.

The biggest issue with Billie is that she never had the proper time. I brought this up before, but I think thatbhad Billie been introduced halfway through season 7, or even towards the backend, she might have had a better setup for not only her role but also her story arc. Rather than focusing half the season on getting Billie situated in the role of witch in training they could have spent more time on the actual Christy arc and made it more compelling

I think with shows like GoT, the 2004 King Arthur movie would have done better if it was made in 2016. The battle scenes would have been better, and it would be able to fully commit to it's grittier tone and colouring. It's a childhood favourite of mine, it perfectly scratches the eternal itch i have for big battles and sword fights. I don't think it's an issue of people not liking an edgier or darker take on King Arthur, it's just all those attempts have been poor, from writing, casting, production, budget and music. It's hard to imagine a positive or good version because we've never seen it before. Clive Owen was good in this but I feel like he was directed badly, or maybe it's just the writing, but it seems like they were trying to go for some sort of Shakespearian or Theatre-esque dialogue/acting, especially during the scene where Arthur wallows over Lancelot and the other knights that died, it feels a bit over the top? or out of place. I remember a point where Medieval/Fantasy movies couldn't escape that kind of trope in the early 2000's

Ah man, I LOVE King Arthur 2004. I was but a wee lad working at a small-town movie theater when it came out. I built the reel (most were still analog back then - *all* of them, in my rinkadink theater), and watched it at like 2AM to make sure I hadn't made any mistakes in the splicing, and instantly fell in love with it. Between shows, when things would get slow, I'd take a break, and go in and sit in the theater and watch 20 minutes of it before going back to work. Every time I watch this movie it takes me back to the smell of theater popcorn and butter, and Sprite that tasted vaguely of paper (since we weren't allowed to get free drinks - we did so anyway, but often had to reuse our cups so as not to throw off inventory counting). Good times, good movie.

I did have an "eh" reaction to King Arthur when I first saw it in 2004, mostly because in the early 2000s it was difficult to not see a lot of thes historical epics as just cashing in The Lord Of The Rings popularity, though a later watching does make me see it as a good story in its own right, but my enjoyment of it is mainly in comparison to what we are getting modern cinema. Modern fantasy has taken the 'grim and gritty realisim' far too far in my opinion and is not so much realism anymore as ultra-violance. King Aruther's characters are self-admitted not great people but are at last self-aware enough to have to grapple a bit with their morality. I've also been a historical researcher for 12 years specializing in The Migration Peroid through to the Middles Ages and while my gripes with the film aren't so much with the costumes or armor but more how the modern ideas of 2004 were projected into the Dark Ages. The religious views especially, the early 2000s when the atheist internet forms really started to take off. Full disclaimer I'm not here to shoot down anyone's beliefs or lack there of, just the historical context. The film is set in and around 467 AD and while the English officially converted in 597 with St. Augustine, Christianity had already been in Sub-Roman Britian since the 4th century. As far as friction between the pagans and the early Christians, there as certainly plenty but I really don't think it was anything like the modern idea that the pagans were ultra-cool freedom fighters struggling heroically against the invading missionaries. As I like to say, Christianity became popular for a reason, and it was rather unique in its early years at least that people were spreading it through more social and peaceable means rather than conquest which was the Roman MO.
@BetterWithBobКүн бұрын
Yeah and they weren't really persecuting Pagans like the movie shows from the likes of Marius

@@BetterWithBob Excalibur is probably the most accurate in spirit I would say. It's just unashamedly Arthurian. I think a lot of the movies and shows based on Arthur or Robin Hood suffer from a similar attitude directors and screenwriters had about comic book films before the early MCU got started, they're embarrassed by the source material and feel they somehow need to make it more grounded in order for audiences to engage.

A pretty good one in the burrows scenes I might say (as a welshy) but this is missed a lot as it’s not a harsh alleys accent that everyone recognises from things like gavin and Stacey.
