Hillco out of Minook IL has an extractor called the Minimax I believe . Does both Layens and Langetroth. A bit pricy but mine works really good. Got it in 4 days. Delivered right to my door

Learned a lot, you have great command of your subject. I didn't know about early vs late swarming, and i love the Layens hives and like to see the different versions. I think the cover boards approach can help give the bees the sense that they are not disturbed even while a hive inspection is ongoing... love your view hive too. I love the natural "follow the bees' lead, no need to wring out every drop of honey"... thanks, cheers.

My bottom boards have screens in them. Based on what you said about how small an entrance will work for beetles should I change my bottom boards as part of adding the guardian. I’m a newbie that just lost both my hives to shb

Came for the Layens Hive beekeeping, stayed to see your Chicken Kingdom: well done! My only thing is, I always hate to see a dog excluded from his pack: they are by nature pack animals. If he has to stay outside, could you not consider getting him a companion dog--rescue a middle size perfectly good dog from the pound to give your boy a pack when you leave him (and no,, chickens do not provide pack to a dog)... I'll be back, thanks for the tour of the lovely Chicken/Tool compound.

The only thing I'm giving up on in my life: is the need for specific conditions to be met, in order for me to be RADICALLY HONEST. RADICAL HONESTY is my modus operandi. JOY IS MY PURPOSE. Master your mind/emotions (do not be a slave to these)! YOU ARE THEIR MASTER! 7. Keep your promises. Treat yourself like the Queen that you are. 8. Learn (and ultimately master) new HEALTHY skills 9. UNDERSTAND: not every man is built to see your value. They are not all capable nor able. 10. Be confident and authentic 11. Create peace around you, and within you 12. NEVER EVER accept anything/anyone that disrespects you and your boundaries 13. Be open to correction and growth and evolution and learning and unlearning 14. Be the woman God wants you to be and has created you to be A man who loves a woman will not ignore her, EVER, period. So... If he ignores me I will step back and he will lose me. I don’t play any of these childish abusive controlling mind-games. I will only be with a man who values and appreciates me, and treats me as the Queen that I AM. Because I am a beautiful and kind and sexy and wise and magical woman: who knows my worth. Period. Whenever you are alone, remind yourself that GOD has sent everyone else away, so that there is only you and him... Do not feel lonely, the entire universe is inside you. YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE IN ECSTATIC MOTION, BABY! Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes... For those who love with their heart and soul there is no such thing as separation. You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens (It is only then, that GOD can truly totally completely fully enter)! Our greatest strength lies in the gentleness and tenderness of our heart. --- Rumi You are constantly being re-born, re-created, re-generated, every moment. No belief is contained, held, or stored anywhere. It might cause a cascade that brings a symptom, breathing patterns, somewhere in the body, but the concepts, thoughts, and stories are constantly being re-created. You are generating it ALL, and this is unconscious. You can change in an instant!!! Every morning you wake up, your life story is re-constructed. Do I have to wake up believing reality is the way I believed it was yesterday? When breathing is restricted, get curious about what is holding it back, when it is open get curious about why that is... YOU are the Artist! Awareness of something alone IS enough, it untangles itself, the knots let go of you. Choose Freedom, take responsibility for your own suffering.

Yeah - this box was sitting empty for a couple years and I just got to cleaning up the wax moth damage about 2 months ago. They really dig into the wood and mess things up. It's still good after you clean up, and the bees like the textured surface to crawl on, so it's not a total loss I suppose. Thanks again for watchng!

Good morning Gene, I was drinking coffee this time yesterday watching a big swarm from my 25 frame insulated swarm. Unfortunately they bivouacked 75' up in an oak tree...almost 20 hours after they flew up there and rejecting my swarm trap, they flew off to a better place across the swamp. Thanks for sharing, Brice

I can tell you from experience that if you walk into a sheet metal shop that makes AC ducts and give them dimensions of what you want, they can/will make it exactly what you ask for and it will have all the edges rolled or peened down. A lot of those guys love a break from the monotony and a challenge for the brain, so never shy away from asking. The ductwork is heavier gauge than the 24 or 26 gauge trim coils

I put beetle barns on the unoccupied side of my horizontals to kill the SMB rather than just closing it up and detouring them so they eventually find a way inside the occupied side. I use them on the occupied side also plus oil traps. There’s a sandpaper trap you can make yourself that mounts under the entrance to trap larvae before they drop out of the hive and into the soil to break the lifecycle. I’ve never tried it myself. Basically 4 pieces of wood screwed together ( 2 long, 2 short pieces) to make a rectangle and a window screen floor for rainwater to pass. Line the inside of the wood walls with sandpaper. The larvae apparently can’t climb sandpaper. Info of it is on ResearchGate (SHB sandpaper trap) I’d put the link here but KZfaq deletes links. I don’t know how well the sandpaper would hold up in an area with high rainfall. You could probably just staple both ends of the sandpaper together and drop it inside the trap creating a somewhat oval shape instead of attaching it to the wood. That would prevent them from climbing up a 90 degree corner. I don’t have them bad enough in my area to try this yet.

I agree with your comments and I love your videos. Guardian Hive Beetle entrances are a good product, however I wish they would use some kind of plastic that does not deteriorate from exposure to the sun. I have had problems with them cracking and then crumbling due to sun exposure. Other than that, I love them. Thank you for your videos, I find them very educational, interesting and informing. I have implemented several of your suggestions and I thank you. Please keep them coming!!!!

I noticed you used a slanted landing board under the Guardian. I saw another video where the beekeeper complained about bees losing pollen by being able to crawl through the holes in the bottom of the Guardian. I use a level landing board, bees can get under the Guardian but don’t have enough space to be able to crawl through the holes.

I do like the chain and S hook idea. Also I liked that you leveled your box and mentioned that the bees use gravity to plumb their wax building. I would like to add that studies conducted by Dr. Tom Seeley suggested that facing an entrance to the South or South East is preferred by the bees because it warms their entrance sooner and obviously if we can have sun hitting the box as early as possible it gives the bees a longer day. Temperature is their alarm clock.

Hi I came here looking for a video showing how to make the actual roofs/covers, but stayed anyway as I do want to put metal on top. Could one do hospital corners rather than cutting triangles out? Seems to me this would be better for two reasons - 1) no sharp bits, and 2) more waterproof as I imagine driving rain could find its way inside those cut corners at the top. Thanks for the video!
