I'm a terrible KZfaqr! But I'm trying to do better! Here's an update with some cool stuff going on at the bee farm. The sound quality is not so great due to old batteries......but it's fixed 1/2 way through.....

Nice. I currently run both Langs and Top Bars. The TBs require the least amount of maintenance of the two, but still more than a couple times a year. Layens are next on my list. :)

Hey Gene, Glad you are back. I’ve hung 7 traps so far and have 3 swarms so far. Now I have to build more horizontal hives, both Layens and Lang. I will also try to arrange a trip over to your place for the course. I bought it when you first offered it and then because of Covid didn’t get to come. Russ S. Cross Plains

I made my long hives like a condo complex 42 frames 😝I’m making my next one or ten smaller lol , I only have two that are that big

Nice to see you, Gene. Thanks for answering my question about the upper entrance on the swarm traps, which is for ventilation. But, if that's all it's for, then why do we use an entrance disk on it? Seems like some screen would suffice. Getting started hopefully for my first year in beekeeping! Setting up 4 layens swarm traps and building 3 insulated 20 frame hives. I'm in western PA in Butler County. Wish me luck! Thanks for all the great videos..

Nice to see you back. We're still under snow up here in Alberta...I had my first success in my Dr Leo insulated layens hive this spring! I fed them some sugar and pollen patty due to our spring weather going wildly up and down in temps. I'm sure glad I did, they were out happily flying yesterday and this morning we got up to wet snow.. Can't wait to be able to split that and get two sides going on that hive.

love watching your videos Gene! I want to get started so badly but as most will say time just gets away from me each year. But watching all your bees is so much fun too. What zone are you in? If I was to build a swarm box and try to catch some bees just wondering if I still have a chance and if its still worth doing this year. Thanks for sharing. Happy bee keeping Gene! Love the Bees!

Isn’t it called bearding when they hang out on the outside of the hive? I was told that they do that when it is too hot inside. Doesn’t the insulated hive prevent that? What other reasons would they do that? thanks for your super informative videos!
