Harley drove a lot of small mom & pop dealers out of business in the ‘90s when they made them all build huge palaces and sell all kinds of clothes and such. The remaining dealers are probably still trying to pay off that upgrade expense.

What is considered high mileage for a sportster. I just got an 05 883 with 27000 on it. It has been well taken care of, but unsure of any services before 2013. Wonder if anything i should pay attention to or plan to replace soon.
@GixxerFooКүн бұрын
Honestly on a Sportster there's not much to go wrong. If they are well taken care of 27K is nothing, they don't have all the watch out situations like the big twin engines. I've bought Sportsters dirt cheap with 50K on them and they still have great compression and no issues to speak of.
@JCcanUКүн бұрын
3500-6000 price with 40,000 miles and you can get 80 to 90 horsepower out of a evo there is give and take you can buy a aftermarket engine to replace the stock evo and they have the power 100 ci or bigger like the 127 ci .

I don't understand why this is an issue. I just bought a new Street Glide and didn't pay ANY extra fees (other than doc fees of $500 which is a state fee not a Harley fee). Just don't agree to pay. I have no idea how people get into paying all these fees. If you are not intelligent enough to understand what you are really paying, you shouldn't buy anything. I simply don't understand how people get into paying $450 a month over 84 months for a $25,000 bike. If you sign on the line you are stupid, I'm sorry.
@GixxerFooКүн бұрын
I am not disagreeing with you one bit, people do it and that's why they continue to do it. I feel like the sales tactic is to get you excited and loaded up with accessories rolled into your loan, get you to sign before you realize what's going on. That's why you see A LOT of buyers remorse on cycle trader with someone trying to privately sell a bike for more than new but it's loaded out with accessories.

I've said that for years, the thought of just using whatever as long as you change it often is really outdated like the 3,000 mile oil change. You can't argue with lubricating and wear properties during use, conventional or semi-synthetic can't touch how a full synthetic protects.

In a delima! Bought S&S Camplate and pump along with a woods 222 and S&S pushrods and lifters before testing runout. Runout is at .008 and according to S&S thats too much. Max for them is .005. Which camplate would you recommend? Never had a problem with original plate or pump. Wanted to change my chain tennsioners at 60K miles and surprisingly they weren that bad. Decided to upgrade to the Woods 222 and complete stage II. Now I don't know what to do about camplate and oil pump. Do I put the original plate and pump with .008 runout? Please asvise!!!
@GixxerFooКүн бұрын
The tolerances on the original cam plate and oil pump are a lot looser than the S&S cam plate and oil pump which are more of a race plate. You've got a few options here, you can go back with the stock cam plate and oil pump using your new cam. I would go ahead and change the tensioners so you're fresh. You can use the S&S pushrods and lifters which I would recommend with the new cam. If you still want to use an aftermarket cam plate and oil pump check out Feuling OE. It's an upgraded cam plate and high flow oil pump much like the S&S but it's made to account for factory crank run out. You might see if you can return the cam plate and oil pump, or sell it. The next option is to take the motor all the way down and get the crank rebuilt or replace it with an already built crank. Don't use the S&S cam plate and pump with the runout you have, it will roach that cam plate and oil pump quick.

Nonsense. The most critical aspect in selecting an oil for your HD bike is assuring that it meets or exceeds the JASO MA2 and API SL specifications required by HD. A buddy who is a certified HD mechanic and operated his own shop for 35 years only uses Castrol SAE 20W-50 (4T) cuz he never had to rebuild a motor that used that oil. In the primary and tranny, he uses HD SAE 80W-140 heavy duty gear oil. So, that's what I've used in my 2019 Street Glide which has 52,800 miles on it and purrs. Also, you need to religiously change that oil, oil filter and air filter every 3,000 miles during hot summer months and every 5,000 miles during colder months. Do that and your Harley will love you for it.
@GixxerFoo2 күн бұрын
That's basically what it all boils down to is it doesn't matter what you use as long as you change it regularly.

You people buying bikes need to learn how to call the shots when making a purchase! SORT out the rip offs and confront dealer...Go in with cash mindset/other personal bank financing...DONT use HD financing...GET your value set point to trigger a fair sale....Dealer wants to insist on leading you thru a circle jerk ....WALK!!
