Help! So I did 2 coats of filler primer, but when I wet sanded each time, 95% of it seemed to come off. I used the same products you did, and same grits. What does this mean? Will I have issues painting?
@DaveRigDesign
@DaveRigDesign 12 күн бұрын
Between each coat when sanding you are removing the paint from the high spots and leaving it in the ridges. So each coat you should be sanding less off. You should also be sanding with 240 grit and just making it smooth. If you sand too much you will take all the paint off and go all the way down to the print
@pshea098
@pshea098 12 күн бұрын
@@DaveRigDesign im using 240 grit. I’m putting barely any pressure. And just going over the entire print and it seems to begin coming off everywhere as I go.
@DaveRigDesign
@DaveRigDesign 12 күн бұрын
If it’s coming off in chunks or pealing off then the primer isn’t sticking to the print for some reason. If that’s the case you’ll want to take it all all and while down the print with alcohol to make sure there are no oils or contaminates on it before spraying again. If it’s sanding properly like a powder then you either need thicker coats or to not sand as hard. Also if you sand it before it’s fully dried it will scratch off easily and smudge and really gum up the sandpaper.

Ya you can get the same results with just primer. You just need to do more sanding on the pla and wait longer for each coat of primer to dry. There is some question of shrinkage when drying when filling such large gaps with paint but may not be an issue.

Im curious if it is possible to add color pigment to the resin to get the print to have a color that way and if that would look good? Also is there a alternative to using a curing chamber if you dont have one?
@DaveRigDesign
@DaveRigDesign Ай бұрын
You could add pigment or just use colours resin. But the layers are so thin it would be somewhat transparent and show the underlying service. For curing you can just use a UV hand held light. I have a few videos on my channel using this method on bigger prints and use a hand held light
@codyabdullah

@@DaveRigDesign awesome thank you so much! would adding pigment make the resin thinner? (I dont know much about resin printing I only have FDM)
@DaveRigDesign
@DaveRigDesign Ай бұрын
@codyabdullah I don’t think adding pigment would have much effect on the thickness. You could add a clear resin over a print you don’t sand. You would see the layer lines underneath but you can buff the resin to a mirror finish on top for a super smooth candy coating :) Possibly also add glitter to give a metallic clear coat effect.

The market was over-hyped and businesses over-capitalized (sound familiar?) It’s now way too crowded: too many companies with too similar technologies chasing the same slice of the (too small) pie Business plans were fundamentally flawed: general-purpose manufacturing solutions in search of specific problems. Many companies need a major reset which means there’s a high probability they enter the infamous Death Spiral.

Oh, and we’re not looking to buy 300 machines that will do this, just a few."

Cool then you can spend $1m getting dies made for injection molding and wait 6mths and hope you don’t need to modify the part or you have to start over. Or contract a print farm to start making parts a day or two after they get the model and updating the production line is as easy as updating the CAD file. No one create there own injection molding factory to make parts so why would they start their own print farm, although they could if they wanted to, not an option for injection molding. Commercial 3d printing is always happening and only growing

With 3D printing you can create products that can not be manufactured any other way. Also most printing is done with PLA which is an organic plastic made from starch which bio degradable.
