Installed one a few weeks ago for the first time. Checked it and just a sliver of oil. No need for an oil wrench to mark it up. Wait a couple hours to cool or use gloves(it does get hot) and it unscrews right off. Just have to remember to keep checking it. For the record, that's not normal in your can. Looks like the gas is getting into your oil. Probably should change the oil more frequently.

Just a heads up. Save all of these parts that you take off. If you ever sell the truck to a person living in a emissions inspection area all these parts will need to go back on the truck. Also if you were to have it inspected in an emissions area and these parts were missing the EPA could put a national hold on the registration, so you couldn't get plates/registration until you put everything back.

This is *only for* 11-14, not 15-16. The coolant hoses are not the same at all. I got 5 mins into following this just to find out that none of those hoses connect to the same locations on the EGR. And I didn't even need to go behind the headlight to remove that hose as there are drain plugs underneath the radiators. Now I'm going to have a huge issue reconnecting the hose. For reference, here is one for 15-16: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nd6qZbF136-pm3U.html.

A pain staking hours of tap and dye set. If you have any exposed threads try and spin it out. If you don’t just drill them out and thread in a new hole. There’s no good way to do it. I believe they make a kit now to repair those bolts but it’s expensive.

There’s a bracket back there. Sometimes you have to get a wrench or socket back there to loosen it alittle and then you can prop it out. It takes alittle wiggling and force to get it out. If yours is a newer generation it may be more difficult.

Thanks for the clear video quality. I just bought a 2017 F150 w/ 3.5L Ecoboost. It's got 109K miles and no catch can, hate to think what the valves look like. I've got the J&L 3.0 sitting in the back seat of my truck and the extension on backorder but I was having trouble figuring out how to mount the can. Other videos make it look like its bolted to the bottom of the battery tray and I couldn't figure out how they made it fit. Where you mounted your to the top lip of the tray, it looks like there wouldn't be room to close the hood. Must be the camera angle. Can't wait to get mine on but every time I start to do it, some family emergency seems to need attention.
@Poor_ManTruck
@Poor_ManTruck Жыл бұрын
I was puzzled as well when I received mine. It does fit under the hood without touching. This can has made a big difference for my first generation Ecoboost. I have to empty it often in the climate I live in. It’s a pretty quick install. I’d recommend an oil wrench for taking the can on and off. It’s sometimes alittle tight! Thanks for your feedback on the video

@Poor_ManTruck I'm in middle TN, winters sometimes get down to the mid teens but rarely colder. Summers get fairly hot but the humidity gets up to 80% or higher on a regular basis. I was just about to start the install two days ago: had the hood up, step stool in place, parts and tools sitting under the hood when I got an emergency call from my mom. Ambulance was taking her to the E.R.. Had to toss everything in the back of the truck, grab my Go Bags and drive an hour to her town's hospital. Thankfully, she's okay. Been staying with her since then. Think I'll try to install the separator today while it isn't raining. Thanks again for the video, it's the clearest images of how the bracket is mounted to the battery tray.

@Poor_ManTruck I appreciate that, she's feeling better since we got her back home. I put the can on today, a little frustrating getting the bracket bolted on with the tight work space involved but other than that, I'm happy I've got it installed. I'm curious to see how much crud it'll catch over time.

*IMPORTANT STEPS* 1.) : Remove your DPF system and unplug all DPF sensors. Install your straight pipe or hollow your DPF system out 2.): Without starting the truck, plug in/install your tuner and follow the prompts to DELETE DPF SYSTEM. Make sure you do not start your truck until the tuning is complete. Once tuned you can start the truck, but its recommended to remove the EGR to prevent possible leaks. 3.): Disconnect battery. Ensure all EGR plugs are unplugged. Here are the plug locations : www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1302848-egr-delete-kit-or-just-unplug.html 4.): Continue with removing the EGR as shown in the video*

So you were DPF deleted before you were EGR deleted? So essentially you had it tuned shut? And later decided you wanted to Remove the EGR? How did that affect your tuning? Meaning did you have to get new tunes etc already? I’m in the same boat, I am tuned shut right now and have been wondering what to do.. thanks!
@Poor_ManTruck
@Poor_ManTruck Жыл бұрын
Yes sir, tore out the DPF first thing that morning. Then plugged in the tuner and installed the DPF delete tune. I didn't use any custom tunes, just the ones built into my tuner. Follow all the prompts the tuner tells you. Once that part was complete I then removed the rest of the EGR system. I didn't change any tunes after the EGR. Started it up and was on my way.
