Enjoyed your video and learned about your channel from Welcome Grove Homestead. I am what you might call a suburbon backyard homesteader. I am retired and enjoy having a small garden each ;year. I do make compost and take advanatage of the leaves and grass clippings and household garbage. Used to have a small (6) flock of chickens but unfortunateliy a predator enjoyed them. Nothing like farm fresh eggs! Interestingly, I also am from Western Mass, spent my childhod living in the country in Charlemont, Colrain, Heath and Cummington. My grandparents on my Mother's side were small country farmers. I also am an Army veteran from the Cold War Era, 66-69. Gave you a thumbs up and subscribed to your channel. I now live in middle TN which has been my home for some 34 years after spending 31 years living in CA when my family moved out west from Mass when I was 12.

Found myself here after experiencing this for the first time tonight. Making dinner for the family, opened an expensive package of local ground pork, it smelled like nothing and had no off texture so it seemed perfectly fine. Within 30 seconds on the pan, it filled my kitchen with a smell I can only describe as barnyard crotch. Boar _taint_ is also VERY accurate lmao I went online and literally just looked up ‘should ground pork smell like barn’ and wound up with results using the _exact_ words we came up with. Barnyard, pungent, sour, sweaty. I never knew this was a thing! I ended up going down a 45 minute rabbit hole reading about pig fat and hormones and olfactory genetics. Before I was injured through service I produced horses. I had a double-unicorn T/Rn W20/W20 BLM mustang descendant who turned animal genetics into a huge niche interest of mine. Now that the wife & daughter are asleep I’m sitting here watching homesteading videos for more of a fix…I guess farm people are just weird like that haha. You’ve got my sub, and if anyone’s wondering, we managed to mask the taste well enough with lots of ginger, sichuan paste, peanut butter, and spicy oil (we were making Thai stir fry.) My 4yo daughter and I couldn’t taste anything off about it at all; my wife said it was a little dirty tasting but not bad enough to throw out. I hope you guys were able to make it work too!
@BlueBellyAcres3 ай бұрын
We appreciate the support. Taint is typically from meat from intact males(which is illegal to sell to the public) but all pigs can have the chemicals in them. Sorry you had the experience you did. Thanks for dropping by.

We make compost, ongoing, from our chicken manure, grass clippings, weeds that have not gone to seed, produce stems and leaves and scraps, shredded junk mail, and a little soil that comes with the chicken manure. We’ve done this for many years and have a healthier soil every year. It’s good you tested your soil. Happy Gardening this year! 🌱🌱🌱

My Mom raised Doberman Pinchers, to make extra money as the wife of a Naval Officer. She once took a dead runtling in for an autopsy and they found several fatal anomalies even after exhaustive blood line reviews, etc. Even with the best care, the best food, etc nature throws curve balls. It did look like the piglet received comfort and an extended life with you. Later in life she had a pullet house where the chickens that she raised would grow to produce other industry birds. Talk about anomalies! Why would nature make birds with wry necks? It can’t eat with the head on backwards.❤

If brooding in an incubator, temp. settings kept as close to 98.4 will produce a majority of females while 100.4 will produce a majority of males. Even with temps in those ranges we will still get about a 70/30 split.
