Pendleton wool shirts were used by surfers before wetsuits. Disney is in So. Cal. Looks like a connection.

Peter you always make great stuff and leave me weeping at the end. You’re one of the reasons we made the move to Oregon last year. Although I’d already been an Oregonian in spirt and time spent there as a child.

A twelve-minute ad? Um, ok.
@glennac19 сағат бұрын
No, not an ad. Any more so than Primal Space’s Channel discussing the time Pepsi paid for Air France to paint one of their Concord jets with their new blue logo. It was neither an ad for Pepsi nor Air France, but I appreciated a documentary look at what was, for the time, an interesting advertising partnership between two brands. Just because something is discussed doesn’t mean it’s an advertisement.

@@glennac A "documentary" about one big company doing business with another big company to sell more stuff? I saw that thumbnail in my feed and did not even care to click. I watched this video just because I watched and liked other Dibble's content, but this is a disappointing fluff.

I once bought a Pendleton shirt at a thrift store for $5. Loved it, wore it all the time, it eventually got unbearably scratchy and eventually wore out through the elbows and the buttons wouldn't stay closed. Great video as usual, Peter!

Really enjoy these PNW Perspective videos on history! Thankful there is a channel covering this type of content! Anyone else that likes this type of local history possibly have any other PNW centric channels to check out that are as high quality and interesting topics as this channel they could recommend?

This a great video. I was born during the environmental wars in Oregon. Consequently I have invested I anything in Oregon. I watched the state bankrupt so many families. So many families lost it all. By 2008 when I was able to afford investments, I saw the second time in my lifetime ppl lost everything I droves. Crazy how these childhood events change ppl.

Excellent documentary. Well explained about a transit system which Seattle fortunately never built. LRT has the potential to transform the metro area, although cost is an issue particulary for Seattle's case. Monorails are really a relic of paleo futurism...

Seattle could have had a great system, if it had been expanded on, in the mid 60's, but money or pesky politicians ...for the most part, who don't envision the future. When you mentioned Dick Falkenbury, I remembered Kim Pederson and the Monorail Society, now there was insight. At least we have a few systems now., we just need to expand on them.

For anyone who has taken the Seattle Underground Tour, which highlights the silly mismatch between maintaining lower tidelands as real estate and building a properly graded city (at Pioneer Square), the mindset hasn't changed for Seattle in a hundred years! There is something most peculiar about this municipal financing and development. Anywhere else it happens pretty well as expected, but Seattle has all kinds of bizarre issues. Maybe it is related to Vancouver's weird rejection of being integrated into Portland's light rail system? It needn't have cost that much and would have provided an alternative to the Interstate Bridge congestion which has been going on for fifty years (at congestion hours) at least!

The Milwaukee monorail was at the Boston Store, not Gimbels. I grew up in Milwaukee in the 1960s and we did it every Christmas. Boston Store had (has?) A unique escalator system and was connected by a skywalk to the parking lot. Gimbles was different. Great store, too, but the monorail was definitely at Boston Store.
