You seem to be conflating zero drop with thin soles. I’m looking for a zero shoe that also provides foot protection (not as a transition shoe to thin-soled shoes). There’s zero drop between your heel and your forefoot when you’re not wearing shoes. That’s how we have evolved as a species. Shoes with a heel to forefoot drop and unnatural but we’ve got used to them because that’s what we’ve most all our lives. Switching to a zero drop shoe was what (after trying numerous suggested remedies) finally enabled me to get rid of my plantar fasciitis. Once you get used to them (not long in my case) they are much more comfortable than shoes with a significant heel to forefoot drop.

This is one scenario where it does actually make sense if you have plantar then yes you should use zero drop shoes. a lot of the other claims are kind bunk but for that specific issue it does 100% make sense. because you want to take pressure off the ball of the foot. The Via Olympus in this video isn't very comfortable but the version 2 is very comfortable. only issue is they made it way uglier and gave it even more of a rocker. Altra is a mess. All of their products come with a lot of compromises. It's honestly hard to suggest them, but there aint many other choices on the market right now for shoes that are zero drop but also have cushioning like a regular running shoe. However, I'd suggest stuff like NB over Altra for most folks. Just make sure they actually fit in length and width. NB has many models with very low drop such as the More V4 shown in this video. But that thing is even clunkier than the Altra shown in the video. It's an absolute boat. but otherwise a really good shoe. If you're gonna get an altra, I'd suggest trying the Esclante 4, Torin likely in wide which means either an ugly light gray or ugly blue. or the Via olympus 2 which is the new version of the boat that's in this video. All the other models have too many issues and or have narrow lasts. Altra isn't what it used to be. Think of those 3 models as a spectrum from minimal to maximal and figure out what you need. For an issue like plantar I'd suggest the Torin above the other 2. but the torin is narrower than the other 2 and only comes in a wide size in 2 ugly colors. So there really is no winning. Altra has also been plagued by serious durability issues for a while now so don't expect them to last very long. and it's not like they're cheap. Via Olympus 2 after tax will cost you nearly $180. The cheapest one will cost you about $140 after tax. Is it worth it? Probably not but it doesn't hurt to try it once.

Bought the CloudEclipse last fall, but could not get that shoe to work for me. Ended up using my old CloudMonster1 and Surfer instad. I see that the Eclipse get so much good reviews around KZfaq. So it must be something with the way I run. The Hyper was what I was hoping the Eclipse was. My go to shoe at close to every training session. This summer I can only bring one pair of shoes with me on the hollidays, and it`s not doubt in will be the CloudMonster Hyper.

In your opinion without being biased, would you still choose Hoka over another brand? Or is there a brand better than Hoka
@SportitudeAus
@SportitudeAus Ай бұрын
Hey @MrClemmo13 This is a great Q! As its pretty well assumed, Hoka owns the high stack, cushioned category and has done for the past decade. When the industry started to see the cut through they had on market share, all other brands took notice and went straight to the design table to work their own version(s) of this evolutionary category. While Hoka is still growing as a brand, there are a lot of options now from their competitors speaking to the market looking for cushioned, high stack shoes with a metarocker. You are spoilt for choice and it does come down to fit, feel and function. Brands are all competiting for the attention of the runner/athlete with the wallet. Fair to say Nike owned the carbon plate performance shoe category for 2-3 years before others started to catch up.... They still dominate this space, but the other brands have some seriously good shoes to fit the needs and requirements within this category. I take the same approach with what Hoka had done to the market in the early 2010's. Total disruptors, and they as a brand have changed the landscape. Its not to say we wouldn't be here now without Hoka, but industry leaders tend to be game changes. That is exactly what Hoka is!! Thanks for the comments. Do you have a favourite Hoka shoe? Mine was the Clifton 6!! Regards, Josh

Im a heavy pronator and wear orthotics, i only use them for walking daily, the gel kayano 28s caused me issues in my joints on my little toes and down that side, and NB 860 same year was a disaster, soft heal counter that most reviews said cracked, and I cracked mine, and the guard rail system in the brooks addiction walker make my knees ache, had worn the old support system for 20+ years. I have the saucony omni walker for work and leisure but they need build up on inside of the heels. Havent tried anything else last 2yrs, appears the support and stability has gone too soft. Any suggestions??

Thanks for the awesome video content. I prefer traditional stability running shoes due to over pronation (Medial post etc..) Kayano 29 was my favorite shoe for this but the Kayanos have changed a lot. In the current market which is the closest shoe to the Kayano 29? (NB 860 V12, Gt 2000 12 perhaps?)

If both are available, lean on the 15 for walking. 16 is remarkable under foot, and certainly more dialed for running.

I am used to running in 1080s and then I went to Novoblast 4s this year. When that eventually dies, at 400 miles with those and still going strong sort of, I want to try these as a more ground effect. I've built up my mileage and find the more I run, the less I want high stacks of cushion. This seems a good option for that. At least to rotate with my Novoblast 4s

Great review Josh! Ive been following your channel and it's impressive. I have an important question for you. There are a ton of shoes out there bragging so many different things and I'm totally confused. Reading some reviews I bought Orthofeet and I'm disappointed which I'm going to return within 10 days. I have a wide feet am a 330 lbs guys and I want to change that by starting walking everyday for 10K steps at least along with diet. Orthofeet gave me pain in the metatarsals and pressure in the knee joint after barely walking 1 km. Im not saying Orthofeet is bad but it just didn't work for me. Im looking for EXTRA WIDE Walking/ Running Shoes with great cushioning and supportive to my feet and joints being able to absorb the shock of my weight. Which are the best shoes that you'd want to recommend to me?

My running shoes have always been neutral. I tried the Nike Vaporfly running shoes and they were soooo aggressive that the strain on my heel area caused a lot of problems. For me, they were very difficult to wear for long distance runs The Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 has been the perfect running shoe. So much so … that I bought as many as I could as they were being phased out I am now looking for a new running shoe. Is the Asics Metaspeed Edge comparable to the Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ? Does anyone have any thoughts on a comparable running shoe to the old Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ? The strike was great ... not sooo aggressive that it put enormous pressure on my heels

Been running in them since the Ghost 11’s. The 13’s and 14th’s were a different shoe for me compared to the 11&12. They were tighter on my foot, and clunkier on the strike. The 15’s were SO much better for me than the 14’s. Now I’ve got the 16’s, and, …hmmm: roomier, I’d say, with more of a padded feel. So, for me: 11’s, 12’s, & 15’s were best.
