Help?! Yours is 1st flash of same clutch "tower' mount as mine on a 710 ( ya' weird. Maybe age thing?) Could you possibly describe where your kill switch terminates, pllleeease?Got my BCS back with the end ripped out. I have read, watched, emailed with no help. I'm quite old & newly widowed lady rancher - need to be spending repair time on tractors & fences before winter but this mower would really be useful. Any help appreciated.

No longer have this tractor, but from what I remember the kill switch attached to the magneto coil on the engine. I think in this video or another video on this tractor I actually describe replacing the part. Then on the handle end, up at the controls, the switch just grounds to the metal handle.

Great video. I work for a historic (architectural) architectural restoration company, and we just picked up a 1967 Ford chassis with a Boyertown step van body on it to restore into a work vehicle. I’ve been tasked with being in charge of that process. Never rebuilt an engine before, I’ve got a 1960 chevy truck with a 235 I’ve done similar repair/bandaid work over the years, but never wanted to commit to a full rebuild. Planning to watch all your videos to have a better understanding of what I’m getting into. Thanks

I’m getting ready to rebuild a 300 for my 91 f150 5 speed 4wd truck. Stock bottom end with new rings and bearings, decked block, fresh ported promaxx head with bigger valves, small level 2 torque/towing cam from Crower pn 19211, already has a high flow exhaust system, also will get all ARP studs for good measure. How did yours run with a freshen up? Noticeable difference?

Nice. Mine ran smoother and with less leaks. I already had added the 4BBL carb and EFI exhaust before the rebuild, and that was what I would say made the biggest difference.

not sure what you're referring to, but I didn't have a leak of either. There was some minor PS fluid on the steering box from a past replacement of the low pressure line. Maybe that's it?

Haha, ya the exhaust was not the best at this time. Had it fully redone with stainless magnaflow from the downpipe back before selling it recently.

It was a bit of a side job for the machinist, so I didn't get an itemized cost unfortunately. Both items were indeed machined.

Man, I feel for you. I've been building a 1996 ford E250 camper van for the last 4 years and the 4.9L just had the distributor gear on the cam shaft blow apart. I've never pulled an engine before in my life, but for the life of me I can't get myself to part with this van or the legendary engine. I don't even have a driveway to work on, I'm just going to have to give it my best shot in my lawn.

Ya that’s tough on no driveway. I’ve been there, done that. Gotta get creative. Sounds like a neat build you have going! Best of luck getting the remnants of that gear out. Wild that it would blow that gear. It’s forged into the cam.

@@JeremyKamutzki I know right? Apparently there was an aftermarket distributor that didn’t fit quite right. It’s more like “shaved the gear down over 4 years until the teeth were gone” more than “blown apart” that’s my bad haha. I appreciate it though man. The craziest part is that this engine has 125,000 miles on it too. That’s nothing for a 300.

Ok fair enough. Still kinda wild that the cam gear would be the one that got chewed up! I would have thought an aftermarket distributor would be the softer metal, but I guess not!

Hi Jeremy! You kindly responded to a question that I had some months ago. I have another one for you now. I just finished my Ford 300 initial cam break-in yesterday and thought I would have a little better oil pressure. When it was hot, it idled at around 10 psi. Later when I started it and idled, it was closer to 20. I’m wondering what your oil pressure is like?

Good question. At idle I had around 20-25 psi I believe. At cruising rpm, I had about 45psi. I was running 15w-40 Rotela T4 diesel oil (extra zinc and these engines like it). Did you replace your oil pump? You’ll always have lower pressures once it warms up.

Hi Jeremy .. stull active on the utubes? Im a 300 fan.. i like yhe idea of original in the truck, if the truck is worth it. .. i like the idea of the efi heads.. do they reay just bolt onto older blocks? I have an /83. ..a set of efi heads and the dual exhaust sound good to me. Id like to know more about this.

Still responding to comments but not making much content now. To your question about heads… are you asking about the entire head being EFI, or the exhaust manifolds? I believe for either one yes they do just bolt right up. I have only done the exhaust manifolds. The one caveat to this is aligning them with the exhaust ports, as the newer efi head has additional dowels for aligning manifolds. Google this and you will find lots of discussion on it. I also believe the EFi head increases compression ratio by about 0.5

Since the coolant is somewhat preheated, shouldn't your coolant temperature gauge respond and reflect the warm coolant? It didn't move at all.

If it gets warm enough, yes. It was a long time ago, but I suspect that the gauge range didn’t go low enough to detect the warming.

I'm in Lorgues in France and I'm french yes nobody's perfect 🙂 I was looking where to find the spark plug. I would like to try to clean it and bath it in gas and try to start again. Spark plug should have an identifying number on it. You can cross reference that brand and number to find a plug that is easily available in France to fit your machine.

The Haynes Manual for 1973 to 1979 ford f series trucks. There were some missing pieces and gaps in what it covered, and I just googled those as they arose.

i tried to adjust my valves within spec, still wont run more than 20 seconds, new spark plugs. Should i go smaller or bigger on valve clearances? How do i need to adjust throttle linkage upwards but not choke engine.?

All happened while towing. I think the radiator is undersized for towing.

Yeah. Every time. And I only had a proper temp gauge the last time. The factory one on the dash doesn’t work super great. So I figured I would do a rebuild so I knew everything was starting fresh, and if I wanted to tow I would replace the radiator. No temp issues at all with normal driving.

I was about $3000 Canadian all said and done for machining and parts. I reassembled myself.

Not sure exactly what I have in this one, but you can lookup a chart that converts the tire width in inches to the equivalent mm size.

How long do I need to have the Frost heater plugged in? Is there such a thing as too long?

I believe it is limited in the upper temperature it can hit. I typically had it on a block heater timer and it ran for about 4 hours before starting the car.

Old saying #218. "Oil and grease are cheaper than parts and labor." You have excellent work habits. A couple of assembly tricks I learned many years ago might be of interest to you. I accumulated a collection of various length bolts that I had cut the heads off. So I had a bunch of studs. When installing things like oil pans, timing covers, transmission pans and the like, after I'd cleaned the holes I would screw two or more of my studs in with my fingers. That would keep the gasket aligned and aline the mating quickly and perfectly. The technique is especially handy when the alignment is blind, as in water pumps with the engine and radiator still in the vehicle. Once I had a couple of the bolts started and snuged up I could unscrew my studs with my fingers. The other handy helper was, I had a bunch of firearm bore brushes from 22 to 45 ACP. The brushes are brass so I'd chuck them up in a drill and run them into the hole(s). Often I would finish cleaning the holes with the brushes and starting fluid. POOF! bone dry, no grease, no sparks. You do good work young man. Stay safe and keep in touch.

Thanks for your review I wound up on my new $200 M2 from Amazon I thought I already posted all this maybe it was on a different one of your pages. But I looked at your larger bald tire for your mountain bike and came up with this solution a $30 WTB ThickSlick Comp tire 700x2.1 on an old hardtail 29er which ended up being very stable and relatively quiet and a cheap solution. Well not an official trainer tire so I'm sure it'll leave residue at some point, I read the reviews of it and found several other people using it as a trainer tire. Thanks again for your KZfaq post. I will say I'm having fun with Rouvy especially since I'm from Colorado with one home and they have so many of my training courses video taped as I sit on the trainer in my second home when I'm sitting on my trainer in the winter in Atlanta.

Glad to see the truck return! I was watching a one of your other videos on it (I reference them all, all the time, as I’m putting mine back together) and noticed the transmission. What transmission do you have? M5od?

Yeah, it’s back and I think it will be here for a while. Glad my other videos are helpful for you! For the transmission, yes. It’s M5OD out of a 1994 f150. Clutch was replaced on install, and I used the f250 clutch as it’s bigger than the 150, but still fits on the original 1979 flywheel. The transmission was a huge upgrade from the 3 on the tree. I’ll have to do a video on it, and I need to do some maintenance on it soon. Got a fair bit of bearing noise in 3rd and 5th.

Great question. I did look into a parts kit, but it was a bit overwhelming, and there was limited availability as this work was completed right in the middle of the Covid supply chain crisis. I ended up letting the machine shop order all the parts for me, and they pieced together an individual kit. I suspect Summit or Rock Auto would have reasonable kits. You just need to know how much over/under your various components will be machined. I found it much easier to have a shop order for me. Cost a bit more, but I knew the parts would fit properly.

Yes, it's the exact same displacement. Generally the carbonated engines are referred to as '300 cubic inch' and the EFI ones as the 4.9L. There are small variations to the block and head, but generally most parts are interchangeable between them.

This is the first I've heard of this, but may have slightly influenced my ability to get this camshaft back in. Are you suggesting that the block itself would bend due to its combined weight and length?

@@JeremyKamutzki yes sir. It’s recommended to rebuild the 300 i6 on very sturdy table. It doesn’t bend much, but just enough to cause problems with bearing clearances and cam install

Even though Zwift workouts said I didn’t need to shift gears, I was unable to get the output/cadence they set as targets unless I changed gears on the bike. I’m hoping this new setup will fix that. I also have a slick 35c tire so I’m hoping the 2.5 turns after contact will work well for me too. Thanks for the video!
