Things are still moving along! Getting the pistons installed on my 300 ford was a big step for me, and I NARROWLY avoided a major mistake with the bearing installations. Fingers crossed that I didn’t make any other major mistakes so far. Following this will be the camshaft installation.

I have a 300 sitting on a stand almost ready to go into my '66. I lucked out and got my parts before the lock down. I have one bad lifter that I discovered by spinning my oil pump with a drill. No oil getting up to the rocker. Make sure you do the same check. You never know about the quality of some parts. One thing I did for stability was to put uprights from the front stand cross bar, that line up with the engine mount holes in the block. Now my engine is supported at the rear and sides.

Thanks for the tip on checking the lifters. Great point. I haven’t yet got to priming the engine. Did you pull the drive rod for the oil pump out of the distributor? I haven’t figured out how to do that part yet.

Although I haven't rebuilt an engine (GMC 6) in 45-50 years, I do have a prejudice against WD40. At least with firearms, I've found that it dries out creating a sticky mess. What it will do to the inside of your rebuild, I have no idea. I am enjoying your rebuild though.

Glad you’re enjoying the video! It definitely was a bigger job than I originally expected, and has slowed down due to $$$ as well.

When you are using the plastigage, what would you do if the space was too large or small? get different bearings?
@JeremyKamutzki
@JeremyKamutzki Жыл бұрын
Yeah, at that point you’d have to go back and consult with the machinist. It would be a tough one… plastigage isn’t really all that accurate, and they use precision measuring equipment at their shops, so the plastigage is really just a double check to make sure there are no tolerances super out of whack.

I saw a video where they mounted the camshaft bearings without the shaft and machined it like that.

Well, you left something else out too. You didn’t say what the torque spec was for the rods.

I’ve got a Haynes manual for 1973-1979 ford pickups, and anything it doesn’t cover I will research on Google.

Can you send me link to rebuild kit
@JeremyKamutzki

Hey, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately I can’t send you a link, as I didn’t purchase a kit. My machinist purchased all the parts individually. My recommendation for a kit would be to check at Rock Auto.

I too have a 300 IL 6cyl sitting on a stand waiting for the same machining process. I'm following up to what John Jamieson said about the lifters. Check out Dylan McCool as he does just that. His channel is awesome. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rsyblcKovJjbcn0.html
