This is spot on for the most part. Tone is perfect, timing is perfect, and sounds like the correct key also. Don't like the few tweaks but still, this is fantastic. Best cover of it I've heard. Jorma would be impressed.

Super nice! I like you additions. What brand of finger picks are you using?
@stevenmclane9372 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Cameron, I'm using Dunlop Large plastic fingerpicks and a Golden Gate thumbpick. The dunlops I fitted to my fingers and got the curve the way I wanted by putting them in hot water till they just start to soften and then shaping them. Forceps are good to use for that. And don't get them too hot or they completely lose their shape. It takes a little experimentation. But they last forever. I've been using the same picks for probably 10 years. Cheers

Beautifully done. I have a D-18 also and am curious what gauge strings you use on Embryonic Journey? I use Medium Lights (12, 16, 24, 32, 44, 54) and tuning down to 'D' can be problematic!

@chuckb7318 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, Steven. I've got a D-18 and an HD-28V and have spent most of this year trying different sets of strings to find the ones that sound best. I've been using medium lights Phosphor Bronze on the D-18 and Mediums (medium tension) on the D-28 and thought I'd found the ones that work best for me. But now, I'll push up the D-18 to mediums and see if my 73 year old fingers can take it! Your You Tube videos are an inspiration!

Steve McLane does a good job with this. It is clean and picks up all the notes in spite of the "embellishments". And he does it completely solo. I was never sure the song could be done solo and come up to the Surrealistic Pillow version even when Jorma Kaukonen played it. The pace is a bit slower but so what. It good that there is someone around who can still play the tune. And it is one of my favorite guitar picking songs.
