My favorite as well. I remember what a treat it was coming at the end of Surrealistic Pillow. Clearly this style was Jorma's forte, but he was so imaginative he came up with parts that worked perfectly, playing electric leads, especially on White Rabbit. Your tone is gorgeous and guitar beautifully recorded. Your "embellishments" or variations are well done, fit perfectly within the piece without overtaking it. I've been teaching myself the song for a while now. I used to know it but, use it or lose it I guess, and I lost it, and so starting from scratch. As an electric player exclusively, alternating thumb picking does not come naturally to me. Well done Steven Mclane, I will follow you on youtube.

One of my favorite songs as well. I was fortunate to see Jorma at a guitar summit in Madison Wisconsin many years ago. I had a front row seat and was amazed. However, your 'embellishments' are absolutely beautiful and fit well in this song. Your playing and acoustic guitar sound beautiful as well. Incredible sounding music. Keep up the great work... Steve McLane does a good job with this. It is clean and picks up all the notes in spite of the "embellishments". And he does it completely solo. I was never sure the song could be done solo and come up to the Surrealistic Pillow version even when Jorma Kaukonen played it. The pace is a bit slower but so what. It good that there is someone around who can still play the tune. And it is one of my favorite guitar picking songs.

Good stuff, better in some ways than the original....not to take anything away....but the way Jorma played Embryonic in the J/Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow's all time greatest of their great music it was more haunting because of the way the record was engineered to sound....like hearing it in a tunnel with that far away off feel to it.
