I've used Aladdin lamps for years and I've always thought that their Model B was the very best design made. The more modern models were just cheaper in my opinion.
@TheWickShop25 күн бұрын
Yea unfortunately they seem to have slumped in quality.
@sandirobinson6966Ай бұрын
Thanks for the new video! Good info on the Aladdins, and frankly, the truth. Haha...I've had one runaway flame-out with an Aladdin, and you don't ever want to repeat THAT situation. I'm with you. Aladdins are pretty persnickety and potentially volatile unless you are going to be right there babysitting them all evening. Regular old center drafts and double-wicks are so much simpler and less demanding. Granted, you can't really beat Aladdins for a nice light. I have my Grandma's Model B lamp, and it is beautiful, sits in the middle of my dining room table, but I have since replaced the Model B burner with a Model 23, STILL wasn't happy (flame spikes) and now have it running one of the new Maxbright burners - which FINALLY burns like it's supposed to. But - have the power go out, and need expedient light? Unless I want to read or we want to play cards/games or eat at the table - around the house for room lights? I will first light up my Rayos or the double-wicks or the Millers.

I wish it wasn’t that way but unfortunately they are just not up to snuff for regular use.

I hate it when i find a nice lamp or heater that someone destroyed by gutting it, sticking a light bulb in and painting flowers on it....

@@TheWickShop I've been after a perfection heater for years, all i come across is gutted ones with a bulb.... i did find one with the glass view, the whole bottom of the tube was glass... but it was missing the flame spreader, and good luck finding one of those.

@@TheWickShop I tried the boiling trick on two Veritas superspeeds that were stuck fast. I boiled both for about 30 minutes at a roiling boil in an old pot. I had my doubts that it would work but they came apart really easy whilst still hot wearing leather gloves. Thanks again!

@TheWickShop4 ай бұрын
You can. In fact I have just let the lamp burn dry and when it’s cool take the chimney and flame spreader out and rub my finger around it in a circle. That way you can still get a wick flat and level even after the lamp has had fuel in it.
@Ka177884 ай бұрын
Nice technique, will it work for saturated round wick if I try to dry it out of kerosene?

The "Kosmos" you show is a Gaudard version of a Matador, minus its flame spreader, they aren't very good burners sadly. Actual Kosmos burners don't have the deflector cone and have a taller wick tube.
@TheWickShop4 ай бұрын
You are correct. In fact, it was so bad as a Matador that we took the flame spreader out and run it like a Kosmos.
@IainiaI4 ай бұрын
@@TheWickShop yes, I remember having one once, it was a nightmare to get a good flame, not a patch on real Matador burners. Gaudard don't seem to care about things like correct chimneys, they sell some Kosmos lamps with Vienna bulge type chimneys on their website (last time I looked).
@TheWickShop4 ай бұрын
Honestly though, if you run them as a kosmos with one of our sans-rival pattern, chimneys outside of the wick being difficult to raise and lower, they do pretty good.
