Looks like the line at the movie theatre for the prequels...not good enough for a fan fiction. It's pretty hard to train people to fight when they have had others do it for them all their lives.

I haven't watched the show on D+ (no subscription), but I've gotten a lot from reaction videos and yes, when I first watched it, its flashy and looks amazing. I said in another commentary video, though why couldn't they have dumped the two or three red robes and had the fight be between Sol, Yord, and Kalnacca? Jecki and Yord's padawan (who apparently disappeared) could have been trying to capture Mae. Anyway, yes, the fight *looks* good because its lightsabers and its flashy. However, just like the breakdowns of the throne room scene in… whichever fucking sequel movie that was, when you break this fight down, there is so much dumb stuff. Dudes flaking out off to the side, to suddenly realize a fight is happening, dancing around and spinning off screen, only to come back when its back to one on one. In short, its all flash and little substance. Maybe Qimir is a very powerful dark force user, and the Jedi have become complacent, that dovetails nicely into existing film canon. Granted, we don't know how this story wraps up, but I'm not hopeful.

Yup. The strong female lesbian love interest was the most successful in the fight. Because ... well of course she would. She could do so because clearly the hyper experienced lore expert responsible for the show would not have a mere CIS white male accomplish something. That aside I suspect in Episode 6 the last surviving male jedi is killed by whoever twin LaLa is playing - I don't care - because he accidentally, i.e. not through "skill", discovered that he rescued the evil sister. I honestly feel sadness for the male actors in this series. Their career is over because they forever are associated with woke LGBTQ+ BS.

@@Agherosh Obi Wan was promoted to Jedi Master right after that fight and as Darth Maul had the high ground he shouldn't have won. I'm also sure there was dialogue that had Qui Gon say Obi Wan is ready to strike on his own as part of foreshadowing as well to indicate he was close to a promotion. Compared to the police girl boss padawan she was struggling to apprehend Osha (who killed a Jedi Master), who got flung about by Smilo Ren easily and our best gauge of her skill was training with the younglings. Even isolating the episode in its own vacuum the power scaling is whacky.

@@Agherosh Stop. You're being reductive and utterly disingenuous with your flimsy strawman argument. Firstly, well before the fight in Naboo - while in Coruscant, Qui Gon tells Kenobi he has nothing more to learn from him and he is essentially a full Jedi and will officially become one after the mission. So, your assertion he is just a Padawan is fallacious in terms of his ability. He is already an experienced adult Jedi at that point. Second - Maul fought a Jedi Master and a Kenobi, only two of them at a time and while he was a visibly a superior fighter, it was not an easy simple fight for him. Smilo Ren, on the other hand, was fighting 4 to 5 Jedi with ease and killing them at a go, only to struggle with a YOUNG Padawan, or any other Jedi one on one, depending on the needs of the story in that moment. So, the scenario you put forth is utterly different to the one by the show. You don't need to be disingenuous to support to your narrative.

So many other channels talked about the light saber fight in episode five being somehow ok while still hating on the show overall. The dark, the trees, and the fact that there were multiple jedi able to struke Smylo down whenever only Smylo and a singke jedi were in frame. Ridiculous. DOTF took place in lit, open areas with ALL THREE IN FRAME. Lezzye has zero clue about what supposedly "saved her life." By the time i finished this, you had covered every point! Nice. 🙂

Based on the lightsaber combat scenes I'm amazed the Jedi lasted 25 years, much less 25,000 years or whatever their starting point. I'm not really a Star Wars guy, so this is just a naive perspective, but I knew they were dead when I saw them walking single file in their robes towards the wookie's location. My questions to the showrunners would be, 1) why would they dress in robes on their way to capture a killer, 2) where/what are their mid-range weapons (like blasters), 3) what are their communication devices to synch their combat operations, 4) if there's a metal or tech that shorts out lightsabers (like the helmet does) why isn't it standard issue for Jedi to have on them for defense, 5) why don't they have an attack strategy for multiple Jedi vs. a single target, 6) why is Jedi combat training always apparently inferior to Sith combat training, 7) why didn't they leave someone at their ship in case it was needed, 8) why isn't their ship manned, airborne, and tracking them to provide air support, 8) why did they bring Jecki - a Padawan who we just saw in a 'Lightsaber 100' class training with a wooden katana - along to capture a murderer, and 9) how is it that Jecki is apparently a better fighter than full Jedi masters? This was like watching shopping mall cops try to take down a prison-hardened veteran killer. What a dumb show!

And when you have a series that has alot of flaws with alot lapse in judgement made the characters only just makes this fight look worse in hindsight. Dont really get the appeal of the show even if set the lore aside especially when it makes it difficult to turn your brain off to

I've been rewatching Ahsoka. The Acolyte makes Ahsoka look like a masterpiece. I do like the light saber fight choreography in Ahsoka infinitely more than what I've seen so far in the Acolyte. Ahsoka's fight pacing, bright settings, poses before strikes and music all make Ahsoka's light saber battles fun to watch. With the Acolyte, I just wasn't invested and I saw too many times where characters pause in the middle of the fight for effect when a real opponent would have struck them down for freezing.

Good video. There's a youtube channel called Science fiction with Damian Walter. He has some good video essays about tolkien and other stuff I thought was good. Recently however he has become a bit obsessed with critical drinker and nerdrotic et al, calling them nerd bros. I think he is envious of their popularity despite being intellectually inferior to him. Also saying they are focused on diversity conspiracy theories rather than offering genuine critique. I say he is doing the same thing, pointing out part of their criticism and straw manning. Anyway he is saying that this show is good. He gives no explanation other than he sees jungian psychology there. Maybe it is there intentionally or maybe he's just projecting I'm not sure. I commented as much and that those things such as archetypes, themes etc don't make something good. Take shadiw self for example, it's not as if it hasn't been done countless times. How many twins have we seen where one is good, the other bad? Details are what count. There is almost nothing good about this show in terms of the details. The original premise might have some merit but it doesn't matter if the quality if what you produce is bad. And this is objectively bad. Anyway I'd be interested to know what you thought if you check it out. I found it baffling. I'm sure he thought rings of power was bad. I see both shows as pretending to be something they're not. Badly written fascades. I am honestly baffled by his stance, given his usually well thought out analyses.

While I agree a lot of Disney Star Wars is bad, I’m just tired of all the pessimism because it really does just feel like a bandwagon. Saying Disney doesn’t understand Star Wars is a stretch because even George Lucas didn’t fully understand Star Wars. A lot of the mistakes the acolyte has made have been made a thousand times before Disney ever got ahold of Star Wars, and also some legends material straight up sucks and is weird as hell or contradicted canon. Like criticism is fine but at this point everyone has mistaken pessimism for criticism

@@TheBluntJudge I can understand not liking the acolyte but for it to receive a straight up bashing on the internet seems like a bit of a double standard though doesn’t it? Like if bad dialogue, slow pacing, or minor retcons really makes it total garbage then shouldn’t like most of Star Wars be considered total garbage? I’m just saying with titles like that on your videos it seems a bit contradictory, either that or you titled it such a way to attract people who are enjoying the thrashing the shows getting. I’m not trying to be a troll so I apologize if I come off as bashing you. I just think it’s getting a little ridiculous at this point, the state of the Star Wars fan base kinda sucks. *Disney’s Strange Behavior Explained* Lately Disney has been producing flop after flop, which are ruining IPs that Disney has acquired, such as Star Wars and Doctor Who. These failures are partly due to mismanaging IPs, partly due to ham-handed culture-war hectoring, and partly due to cringeworthy dialog, wooden characters, chaotic pacing, idiot plots, amateurish costuming, and mediocre special effects. But why those reasons? Here are three theories for Disney’s strange behavior: *Monopolistic Business Practices.* Disney is a monopoly. Their business plan is to eliminate the competition. One way is to buy that competition, then ruin its brand by wretched writing and ham-handed culture-war hectoring. Maybe Disney doesn’t ruin IPs to push DEI: maybe instead they push DEI to ruin IPs. The true-believers who do the dirty work are useful idiots for their scheming bosses. *Money Laundering.* The Acolyte spent $180,000,000 for mediocre special effects. Why? Maybe the execs skimped on special effects and kicked back most of the money to themselves and their friends-of-friends. *Tax Fraud.* In “The Producers”, by Mel Brooks, two corrupt producers run a fraudulent scheme for making money by producing a deliberately failed show, then writing off the loss in taxes. Maybe Disney is doing the same. All three of these theories can be true at the same time, and indeed can synergize. Disney targets a competing IP: they buy it, then deliberately ruin it by inept writing from useful idiots, by performative diversity hiring, and by skimping on costuming and special effects. The money not spent is kicked back to the execs and their friends-of-friends. The shows fail, the IP is ruined, and the cost to Disney is an investment in monopoly maintenance. Then they write off the loss to evade taxes. I admit that these theories are purely speculative. The only evidence I have for them is what we see on the screen. It’s possible that instead of Disney being that crooked, Disney is that incompetent. I recommend that the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice act to break up Disney for monopolistic business practices. The DoJ should also investigate money laundering and tax fraud.
