Great interview. Old guy pays his debts, mortgage, and does not need to flaunt wealth. Oh, and he is still known for his knives.

Bragging about over charging for knives. What a guy....i wouldn't pay $99.99 for his knives

He got that mentality from Loveless and Loveless got it from Randall. Dozier takes pride in making knives that’ll actually be used by the working man.

We are deeply saddened to report that Phil passed away on 12/14/2016. He will be missed and the Knife community has lost an icon.

He was absolutely unique and tremendously talented. Really happy we got a chance to preserve this so collectors in the future can get a sense of who the man was.

wow they joke about ivory ...ignorant
@KnifeTVNetwork
@KnifeTVNetwork 8 жыл бұрын
You misinterpret their frustration... Mastodon Ivory is over 100,000 years old and easily distinguished from modern Elephant. Fossilized Ivory is ancient and is not same as Elephant Ivory. Regarding Elephant Ivory, John only used Elephant Tusk that was imported legally and documented before the ban in the 1980's. We don't know of any makers that would use illegally poached materials. (Recent confiscations without any due process of all types of Ivory is a valid concern.)

Rusty... Phil is incredibly social and he is just bravely facing the challenges of Parkinson's disease. Steven is one of Phil's closest friends. Trust that there is nothing but much love and respect here. Thanks for your comment.

The end is my favorite part "say goodbye". The interviewer should be able to sense that Phil Lobred isn't exactly a social butterfly, so why make it awkward like that? I can tell Mr. Lobred isn't the most social person just from this 8 minute video

He is the true master, legend. No rules. but he has set the rules for his knives since the very beginning. He did what he could to make the best knives for practical users and collectors. No compromise to his own rules. That differential him from the other makers, makes him the most famous.

John is such an amiable, respectful and hard working maker. This old man has really made most of the maker ashamed by what he had been doing and what he has been charging on his knives.

+Ray Contego who else took the time out to do any interviews with any of the makers? Regardless of how you feel about the interview style, for folks who can't make it to the shows, these interviews are priceless. Typically people just post pics of the tables or talk about how smooth a knife opens, as opposed to actually knowing anything about knives.

+iijyanaika Thanks! We are doing our best and I think the new interviews at Ferrum are better. When we do Periscope the quality is lower as that is what the medium currently supports. I think Steven does a great job with the interviews. He has tremendous expertise and a true love for the craft, collecting and the makers.
