What a great video. It sure does bring back many good memories. I was stationed in Mainz - 1978-80. Robert E. Lee Barracks. When I had free time I would go downtown to the area depicted in this video. Some of the places I vaguely remember. The "Hauptbahnhoff" has really been expanded and modernized. I noticed a McDonalds. There were no McDonalds at that location. The only McDonalds I remember was in Wiesbaden. I ate there once. We used to joke that you could only eat there on payday. The video brought a big smile to my face. Good memories. Thanks to whoever recorded this and posted on KZfaq. As during the time I was stationed there (twice) with the other duty assignment at Frankfurt (1968-69) during both tours, I always noticed how clean the streets were. In this video, the streets seemed to be very clean, as well. I often rode the "strasse" (street car) and rode the train to many German and European destinations. A fabulous way to travel. There is almost no altstadt. Frankfurt is a nice city but not if you like historic city centers.

I enjoyed your video very much. At the 16 second mark I saw the apartment building way in the background that I lived in from 1976-1979. It was at Inheidenerstr. 69. I sure would enjoy seeing what it is like around that area today.

Oh yes at 6:54 this street that goes into the distance next to the Luisenforum. You really need to walk it someday on a weekday. It has all kinds of weird stores on the left side. It takes 30 minutes and at the end you will reach McDonald's and the village of Dotzheim.

Thank you so much for posting this video. I saw the high-rise apartment building on Inheidener Strasse where I lived from 1976-1979. I always thought I'd like to return to Germany so I could see how the area had changed.......or maybe stayed the same. Lots of good memories from my time in Germany!
