you can if you mod it with a windows PC. Similar to the raspberry pi mods out there. You don't need anything super powerful. I'm running a used dell optiplex with a gt1030 super low spec GPU. These can be found within the $150 range used everywhere. Look up what HDMI driver board you would need for your a1up to connect it to the internal monitor and you would need an amplifier for the speakers

I have not used a macbook in that manner. I do know that launchbox, which I heavily rely on, for many of the features I pointed out in this video does not work on mac. But there are other alternative front ends available. If you already own one, give it a shot! The main principle is using software that has shortcuts that do things and mapping those shortcuts conveniently to the streamdeck buttons. Be aware that mac security at times, doesn't play well with other software and hardware triggering key presses and running applications. Needing permissions ETC. Hold off on purchasing a streamdeck and just try getting a front end running on that macbook and playing games. then go from there

You are correct. It was my mistake that was pointed out after I posted this. It was so long ago I put the kowol oversized in the reference JLF that I totally forgot it was in there and referred to it as the original factory in this video. You can see I pinned the comment. I like the newer red oversized actuator from the new "mod kit" performance wise but I hate the feel. The new white actuator from the factory JLX is amazing. I believe it's delrin but I can't confirm. Whatever it is, it glides in the gate. It feels more solid. Would be heaven if someone made an oversized in that material.

This video does a good job but there's no close ups. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j7B9i7CblazYoIk.html Basically there's a metal "collar" up where the curved marquee meets the colored plastic sides that go along the full length of the monitor. kind of adjacent to the top speaker. The metal collar that covers where those two pieces meet should have one screw. You remove that and the metal collar comes off it will reveal the screws that hold down the plastic side rails. There's another one next to the bottom speaker. Same thing and that should give you enough to remove the two side rails and you should see the rest. The whole monitor is attached to the metal frame around it and the whole thing should be able to slide out towards you from the front. It sits wedged on top the square speakers. This is assuming you have the same design as shown in my video and the one I linked. There has been a re-design recently where the whole front frame is one solid piece including the speakers and everything all surrounding the monitor. If you have that updated design then I don't know. Please let me know if this helps

@@TheLivingArcade I watched the video. It helped me figure it out. This one had studs welded to it and nuts screwed on behind the monitor so it wouldn't pop out. I had to take the monitor out to get to the nuts (the monitor barley comes out from behind, but it does). I am trying to put in gun for IR infared sensors in on both sides. There is barely enough room along side the monitor to put them there so I might have to put them in these colored bars I have been trying to remove. I will be drilling three holes right next to each other. Thanks for your help. I was stuck :)

Hello, I just got the Class of '81 Deluxe cabinet, and I'd like to swap out the joystick during the assembly. Apparently, the control panel and the monitor are 1 unit, so I'm concerned that installing a Sanwa joystick might be different on the new cabinet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
@TheLivingArcade
@TheLivingArcade Ай бұрын
I assume you mean the arcade 1up class of 81. I have not seen the inside of one before but I looked it up and I see how the whole control panel is connected to the monitor. Most of the a1ups I've messed with have sanwa clones in them so the footprint mounting plate is similar but not always. You may have to drill new holes or if the the metal plate on the factory stick can be moved over to the new sanwa and mounted with the factory plate. Also be aware that it appears that the stick is mounted really close to the volume and power switches. I believe its mounted rotated sideways so it fits in that tight spot. So you may have to take the sanwa apart and rotate the PCB with the switches internally so your directions up down ETC are oriented correctly. Make sure you set the restrictor gate to 4 way instead of 8 way (diamond shaped) the emulator can't handle diagonal directions and pacman will hesitate or get stuck because it doesn't understand diagonal inputs. Also be aware that the sanwa has a 5pin connector. I don't know how that arcade 1up is wired. You may need a harness adaptor like this www.diyretroarcade.com/products/plug-and-play-joystick-harness-compatible-with-sanwa-style-joystick-arcade1up-single or something similar. I actually just cut the factory wires and solder directly to the metal contacts on the switches of the sanwa. there's no spade connector but there's enough conductive material outside each switch to solder to. If this sounds like too much to deal with you can try putting in a heavier spring in the factory stick for a more snappy solid feel. The sanwa springs usually fit. focusattack.com/4lb-tension-spring-for-sanwa-jlf/ Check out the arcade1up modifiers groups on FB as well. Have fun and I hope this helps. Let me know how it works out.

So doing your “work around” you don’t even have to wire the coin selector up at all? Just need a reference coin in place?
@TheLivingArcade
@TheLivingArcade 3 ай бұрын
Correct. It does still need 12v powered to it in order for it to allow coins through to fall out the bottom and trigger the additional coin switch. and yes the reference coin mechanically tells it what size coin to accept. It’s basically a 12v powered coin chute at this point. Lots of people have no issues with them wired normal directly into their USB encoders. But for me and many others it causes random issues with their USB encoders because the way it can pulse and bleed 12v back into the USB encoder. USB being 5v connected to the PC or console. Connecting only that traditional coin switch directly to your USB encoder. And running 12v power to just the coin mech so it allows coins through. And removes the 12v from the shared circuit of the USB encoder. Hope this helps. Let me know

Who is the best joystick in your opinion? Sanwa JLX TPML Or Qanba JOV8S ???
@TheLivingArcade
@TheLivingArcade 5 ай бұрын
I have yet to test the Qanba it looks really cool though. One factor is that the Qanba is silent. And the JLX is clicky you can really feel the JLX when you actuate the switches. For me when I tried a silent seimitsu I found myself pushing the stick really hard without thinking about it because I wasn't getting that "feedback" from it feeling that click. I did get used to it but the first few weeks my hand and wrist would actually get sore because I was pushing way harder without needing to or thinking about it because I didn't feel that click. Now I love it. But my taste changes over time for no reason. I am testing the new silent adjustable leaf switch JLX right now and I'll be putting out a video on that soon. I'll have to pick up that qanba later on and try that one when I can. I know you won't like this answer but it really boils down to preference. I enjoy trying new sticks. But its all about how it feels to you and if you miss more inputs or not depending on the stick you use. What stick is going to provide you with the most enjoyment? It's about having fun most of all.

Thank you! I really appreciate that feedback! It's so challenging on YT. There's something to the "template" that works but at the same time the biggest channels have all paved their own way. But then again on a channel that's not performing well you can easily say "oh they're just not following the format." That's why they have no views. It's scary when you put so much effort and actually have goals here. Do you play it safe? Or do you just do your own thing, grind, and maybe it works out. However, your comment and the value you got from the video is the real reason I do it so that is a really cool feeling! Thank you!
