I noticed that you listed an X Pro trigger, but this was 4 years ago. I just bought an EOS R. What trigger would you recommend for this camera with the new triggers available today?

Hi Wes, I did a photoshoot with both the RP and the RP 50 as they both use the same battery. Together I took more than1100 shots in 240 minutes. There was still battery-life left on both camera's. Both shot RAW in the highest setting. Usually I do not take so many photographs of an event. The RP performed well. Is this a professional camera? Yes, if one knows the thing and has a back-up camera. just in case.

Open gate + 14 stops of dynamic range. It is a no brainer to drop the R5C or A7SIII and get a couple of X-H2S bodies for the same money.

For serious street photography I find having small camera important because i would always have it around my neck in city. Every day, for years. I wouldnt even bring my bag. Also heavy lens makes it slower to raise the camera. But its doable. I would only use 35mm prime on R5. Or 23mm on fujifilm.

This is a killer lens with a absolutely terrible flaw: the focus is way too slow. It's crazy that Fujifilm doesn't have a native 85mm full-frame equivalent that can actually keep up with anything moving. Wild. Good stuff, Wes!

I think the XH2s is a very well tuned hybrid camera. The stacked sensor with increased dynamic range excels in video at high frame rates. The AF is fast and reliable (at least to my application) . Fujifilm has a very good lens system . The APS-C works well for me striking a perfect balance between weight and image quality.

great portraits, Wes! i haven't tried the 56mm before but maybe you should check out the viltrox 75mm lens, if you're looking for a portrait lens? i used the 75mm for grad photos earlier this summer and was super impressed by the sharpness when shooting wide open! it also has some nice swirly bokeh around the edges, which i lovee

Considering you can get an 85mm f/1.8 for full frame to match this at a lower price, I just don't see the market for this lens - the full frame has better autofocus, smaller size/weight, lower price, better low light results, less noise, etc, etc.

@@hunterhart1 Sure, I just think the pricing is a bit steep / it doesn't represent a good value proposition vs alternatives - it's a good lens though. This is just from personal experience, I sold my Fuji stuff and bought full frame which is was cheaper, lighter and better.

It's solid. Definitely. Just wondering if it's extraordinary? Like the 50-140mm is world class in my book. But it's also personal preference. One of my favorite lenses is the 23mm F/2. I just can't get enough of that lens. Maybe the focal length doesn't resonate with me. I'll see what happens when I compare it to the Viltrox 56mm.

@WesKriesel

Yes, that should work just fine. Just keep in mind that with the 120fps setting there's no audio. So, you might want to do 60fps for slo mo which will have audio when you run it regular speed.

MY MAN!!!! Love seeing you here again. I sold my f/1.2 WR even though it's one of the best lenses I've ever used. Wildly sharp. Incredible contrast and rich colors even at f/1.2. BUT - it's slow to focus. SO SO SO slow! That's why I sold it and don't regret it. I get it man. I want the 135mm plena for Nikon. I know I'd get some use out of it, but I don't NEED it. Crap! I've been holding off for months! Good video man - love the "learn by doing." I think you stopped me from getting the Plena for at least a few more weeks.

$1000 for crop sensor lens? Why wouldn't you just go full frame 85 1.8. is it for portability? I'd think you'd have way more functional use with FF 85 1.8.
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 28 күн бұрын
Hey @shotsbyalex260, thanks for your insightful question! You've touched on a key point in the crop vs. full frame debate. One of the main reasons I fell in love with the Fuji system is precisely because of the value proposition - getting a premium lens like the 56mm for under $1000 is fantastic, especially when I compare it to my experience with Canon RF lenses that often exceeded $2000 for similar quality. The price-to-performance ratio of crop sensor systems like Fuji can be really compelling. That said, you're absolutely right that a FF 85 1.8 offers incredible versatility. It's all about balancing factors like budget, portability, and specific shooting needs. Have you had experience shooting with both systems? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on how they compare in real-world use!
@shotsbyalex260

@@WesKriesel I have never shot with Fuji. For years I only shot with Canon dslrs and when the Canon R system came out I switched due to the ability to use all the old lenses on the new camera. But I hated that the lenses were so expensive and there weren't many options. So I tried the Sony A7iv and haven't looked back since. The lens selection is unbelievable and since I never buy things new, the sheer volume of lens that are 1-3 years old for a fraction of the original price, is really good. But regardless of the system, I don't think I could ever go back to a crop sensor. I'm too used to the full frame. 56mm f1.2 is actually 56mm F1.2. I also love to shoot astro photography and achieving that with crop sensor is nearly impossible without a star tracker.

Does this require the EOS webcam utility in order to live stream? Because my older canon DSLRs do require it and it's a pain to use with OBS. I was hoping that it will just stream through HDMI.
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 28 күн бұрын
No, it didn't require the webcam utility. The Elgato (my explanation) transcodes the video signal from the EOS R so that it's readable as a "camera" for the laptop. This way you don't need the webcam utility.

Will Fujifilm do Holy Grail interval shooting fully automatic in Program (P) mode? I know the Nikon z6 will adjust aperture, shutter speed then ISO once the minimum shutter speed is reached while having interval priority turned on as well as smoothing. Thanks for your help.
@WesKriesel
@WesKriesel 21 күн бұрын
Absolutely, great question! Currently, Fujifilm's interval shooting mode doesn't automatically adjust all settings like the Nikon Z6 does. For a fully automatic 'Holy Grail' time-lapse (transitioning smoothly from day to night), you’d typically need to adjust the settings manually or use third-party software that compensates for the changing light conditions. However, Fuji is always updating their features, so there's potential for more automated options in future firmware updates. Thanks for tuning in, and don't forget to subscribe for more updates and tutorials!
