Working on a AdMech codex review ATM-now that the codex has been out for a while, I've gone to a tournament, and played a few dozen games, and tried each of the detachments-I'm ready to review what I think works (and what doesn't). Gw dice suck 1) they only make a limited run 2) they over charge 3) they skimp on quality control 4) the store managers are a little too hungry to push these on people 😂 5) they don’t even give you 20 anymore but the price went up…

Love the matte on those dice. I hope the Baron makes that an option for more. I currently use 50 Blood Angels and 50 Dark Angels from the Baron.

You can definitely find dice of comparable quality to Games Workshop offerings elsewhere for a lot less money. Only question is if you want to pay extra for the official iconography and want something that is GW official. Otherwise, GW pricing does seem extreme.

@@Grokvar Or see elsewhere if the grass is greener and the games have more fun. Personnaly, I literally abandoned all GW system, and play 40k with One Page Rules. I can play with my children and my wife, which was not the case with 40k rules.

Oh and for special weapons I have 3 snipers for snipping heros and keeping enemy's at that 19+" range so I can better them with attacks they can't reply too

Bought a lot of Baron dice! However, I loathe my nurgle dice as they roll like 💩 and if they were a regular block- they would have been thrown away.

Are they? I'm in the EU, after currency conversion, Baron dice sets cost slightly more per dice than GW dice that I can pick up at the FLGS. And that's not even taking into account overseas shipping.

I don't have a scale handy, but 16 dice from each seem to weigh about the same. That said, I do have access to a food scale (just need to dig it out of storage) so will post the results here once I do that - should be in the next day or two.

Just broke out the scale and finished weighing them. Here are the results: - GW (16 dice) - 2.64oz / 74.7g - BoD (16 dice) - 2.69oz / 76.3g Roughly comparable in weight, but the Baron of Dice offering is just a tad heavier.

Welcome back! Same story as mine - I played Warhammer Fantasy (Skaven) in the early 1990s, had a several decade gap, then played 40K for the first time in late 9th Edition. And I agree -- love Kastelans, and I enjoy running at least one unit of 4 with heavy phosphor and twin fists. A nearby enginseer to heal them and put the 5+++ FNP buff on one Kastelan every turn.

I guess I assumed it would be a roll-move-action kinda game but this is basically an intro box on a kill team board. Still gonna be fun i'm sure, and game-in-a-box is always nice for a quick duel. I'm totally adding Infernus Marines and Genestealers. Edit: And Terminator Librarian. Hive Tyrant.

Pinned comment to provide some clarity RE: rules that are confusing, missing, or easy to overlook that I've personally encountered or have been mentioned by helpful folks here in comments. You can also see some discussion of rule oversights in the Reddit thread linked in this post description. * Fueled by Fury: Not mentioned in the game rules copy but located on Titus' datasheet, this gives Titus the ability to heal one wound (by rolling 3+) every time he kills a Tyranid model. * Objective Secured Mission / Tyranid Deployment (p.32): No specific deployment number for Tyranids is mentioned in the rules. We house-ruled this to 10 Termagant models to start; otherwise, Titus is often overwhelmed and killed by the end of the first turn. * Objective Secured Mission / Lack of Loot Marker (p.32): The 'Deathwatch Supplies' section refers to a 'loot marker' but one isn't included in the game. Could refer to using an objective marker as a stand-in, so use that to signify a loot marker. * Objective Secured Mission / Sudden Spawnings (p.32): The 'Sudden Spawnings' section indicates that players should place a variable number of Termagants (depending on a die roll) within 1" of an objective marker. Unclear if this is from models already on or off the board, so we house-ruled this to the former, so Tyranid models can get a boost of extra movement to objectives. Otherwise the Tyranid player quickly runs out of models.

Quick stupid question... In "Mission #1: Objective Secured" how many models do the Tyranids start with? I decided to use the same number as Mission #2, 10 Terms and 1 Ripper. But am I missing something? Thanks!

Agreed, the rules are unclear here. This is what we did: * Objective Secured Mission / Tyranid Deployment (p.32): No specific deployment number for Tyranids is mentioned in the rules. We house-ruled this to 10 Termagant models to start; otherwise, Titus is often overwhelmed and killed by the end of the first turn. I'll also add a pinned comment to this video that explains all the glitches / strange rules we found.

Being a dad of a preteen daughter who is my primary gaming cohort, I have a few gw bookshelf games, as they are less confusing for younger players. I have this game as well as the new Space Marine board game. Getting 40k data cards for these BSF characters does open up some options for the Space Marine board game where we can co op against AI Tyranids

I have Combat Arena and it's a super-fun little game. Don't let the board size and simplicity fool you. You lucked out finding that box cuz they are no where to be found where I live, and you can't order them online.

Is this a real question? The extra effort to prepaint minis would surely offset the low entry price for a set like this one. GW is above all a premium miniature manufacturer, their studio painting standards could in no way be replicated in a mass produced game with prepainted minis and they definitely would not like the public to have a notion of subpar official paintjobs associated with their brand. Plus, the fact that the minis would also have to be pre-assembled is no easy extra step. For regular board games with 1-piece, low detail minis it makes sense to have them prepainted, but for GW it is against the whole point of their business strategy. People will still buy into these boxes thanks to the “low” price and “high” value.

@@JohnnyLeyenda it was a real question, thanks for the answer. all I’m saying is that if these were just detailed enough to be fun to look at then I’m sure more people would be enticed to play, especially if the cost of minis was at a fair price point. and I’m not saying every box, but let’s say you just need 10 units (of whatever) but don’t have the time or patience to paint them for the day you plan on playing, then you have that opportunity to buy those 10 units. it doesn’t even have to be every unit, but like just base line infantry for each faction. my point is that it could work, I’m sure there are a plethora amount of people like me who would love to play just casual games but choose not to buy the minis because of how bad they are at painting. all I’m saying is it’s an idea to make money from people like me.

It is a bad game. The components are nice outside the cut your own tokens but clearly very little thought or testing went into the game play. The clarity of the rules are also pretty weak. For example in the first part of your play through in the nids turn Titus gets to attack after the first nid model attacks not after all of them as it alternates on a model basis.

I believe you can play all of the Lair of the Beast miniatures in 40K, and most of them have 40K rules for non-tournament play via Warhammer Legends. Good suggestion RE: video that covers that.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. I bought the Space Marine: The Board Game mainly for the Titus miniature, and this one mainly for the Ambull and UR-205.
