I met Spatsky in London in 1989, he was sightseeing, even when he wasn’t staring his eyes were awesome when he looked at me. What a sportsman.

It’s hard to forget the impact of the final. Who knew at the time that it was all faked, and that all the members of the World Staring Commission would eventually have to resign in disgrace.

The good old days when professional staring was on terrestial TV and the whole family could watch together. The stars were all household names and great characters. Just not the same now.

My dad queued for hours to get tickets for the final but they sold out. He comforted himself with the thought of watching it on TV but on the day of the final the TV packed in. Mum said he was never the same man afterwards.

People say the old school starers couldn't compete in the modern game, but I'm not so sure...
@simonsimon325

They couldn't though. You can't just plonk yourself down and stare at your opponent anymore. Modern starers would have you for breakfast if you tried that.

The crushing nature of Spatsky's victory here hasn't been seen repeated in the past 25 years, even when Spatsky himself controversially came out of retirement. Can anyone else join the dots here? He was doped to high heaven. If you believe he was clean here, you're just fooling yourself. Spatsky made me lose interest in the game. I'm now a fan of thumb war, and I suppose I have Spatsky to thank.
