Don't let Spatsky's gruff demeanor fool you, I spotted him in a shopping centre and nervously approached him for a selfie, his stare into the camera subsequently broke my phone, but the guy that he is he walked with me to the Carphone Warehouse and bought me a replacement, not only one of the greatest sportsmen of our time, but one of the greatest men of our time. Thank you Mr Spatsky for a day I will always treasure.

A lot of credit for Spatsky's success should go to his father, a welder from the shipyards of Gdansk.Often he would take his son to work and encourage him to stare at the arc from his welder. Such dedication and foresight.

A ridiculous overreaction. Staring at the top level can easily be done while observing proper social distancing. I accept the crowd is an integral part of professional staring, inspiring these gladiators to ever greater heights, but I’d rather have imperfect staring than no staring at all. There's talk that F.i.S.O.A are proposing to introduce 'eye line technology' to decide whether a starer has blinked or not, following the controversial 2010 quarter final when a German starers eyelids were clearly closed for a full tenth of a second, yet the ref and both his assistants failed to spot it. It sparked a call for video replays to decide close calls, though many old-time starers are dead against the use of new technology, because it would slow down the dynamic cut-and-thrust of international staring.
@edgeways277 жыл бұрын
But it'd slow down the pace of the game if they constantly had to stop for video replays wouldn't it? Maybe a third official at square leg?

You may not believe, but Spatsky does not have many fans in Poland. He really acts like a jerk, what he confirmed after this classic final. We have promising young players, like U-17 Stare-Out Grand Slam winner Czeslaw Chrzaszczewski or amateur indoor champion Ziemowit Szczygiel. Not forgeting about our women team. These players have fans that follow them on every stare-out game. Anyway, Spatsky is now staring for shaikhs of Qatar, after he changed his nationality in 2011.

Arguably the match of the century, rivalled only by the upset of Godunov v. Almeida in '68, the year the American Competitive Staring Association boycotted the event following the Soviet intervention in Prague. Of course, the following year saw the infamous lateral squint controversy that divided the staring world and led to an overhaul of the rules. This was the end of an era - though none of us knew it at the time, that fateful September day we had heard the swansong of a purer, more chivalric sport.

Staring was made a compulsory sport in Australian Primary Schools in 2004 in the hope of claiming gold in the 2012 London Olympics but, due to pressure from Iran and North Korea, the sport was not recognised and so not included. Its a pity because many of the star starers would otherwise have been in the swimming squad and we would have won more gold in the pool. Well thats what Mum told me.

I don't know, I think there are still people who are in it for the sport. Have you heard of Litz (you might know him as Lietz)? I think he changed his name after fame in his home country and it started to affect his stare. People were always trying to look him in the eyes, but he was quite young and couldn't handle the pressure after a while. But he was phenomenal. He could stare in his sleep. A true master. I once saw him in a bar in a tiny town in Serbia, Bogoyna, I think...close to the border with Bulgaria. He looked a mess. He was staring for beer money. No-one knew who he was but even then he was still annihilating people. They had no idea what hit them. But I knew. I bought him a drink, but didn't say anything about knowing who he was. I think he was thankful for the anonymity. Such a shame though seeing him like that. @@samkershaw8474
