Tried the patch, installed cec 0.5HF, radio turns on but won't go below 18MHz. Pressing Band Plan shortcut hangs radio. Have to turn off and on to get back. Is there a way to reset the eeprom?

You reset eeprom every time you install firmware. It sounds like firmware is not communicating with Si4732. Recheck your soldering. Make sure you use flux. I had someone show me pic of their job and it was soldered without flux -- oh why don't it work, I'm ready to buy a new one, he said. Flux man. Flux makes solder flow. Without flux you have no business soldering. Because soldering does not happen without flux. You have to recheck your work whether you used flux or not, because from your words communication between Si and radio does not happen.

Which PCB man, Si4732 board or quansheng board? If latter, look at x-rays, there are x-rays in video description, anyway, there is + from battery and ground near it. If it worked for you, cool, but that's a risk, don't do it again. Plus you haven't measured power consuption before you cut and after, maybe it consumes more power after you cut it. Anyway, on my channel we do things more or less properly, if something we do improperly that would be educated and calculated risk, like examining x-ray images, etc.

Can you help? I have everything installed well but i only get audio if i jumper a wire between ROUT of the Si4732 and the 8pin area where you solder to the board. if i jumper after the capacitor (the one right after ROUT) to the 8pin connector, I also dont get audio. so its not an issue with the traces, its something with the amp area

@@codernovthanks for the link to the other vid, i see you measured the incoming signal components, but do you happen to have the capacitor value of the first capacitor that comes from the audio out of the chip? For your test, it works, but that is pretty much same as direct connect I think

@@brianl2607 It proves that there is connection between LOUD ROUT and capacitor. How about if you don't jumper anything and just short that cap. Do you get sound through that amp? I installed the mod, and taking out anything is not an option.

@@codernov Ahhh i see... good thinking. so if i short the cap it doesnt work. basically the only time i get audio is anywhere before the first cap and anywhere after the last cap of the amp. i feel like i may have a short circuit simewhere in the preamp

@@brianl2607 Perhaps I could do a video later this week about the pre amp. I won't be taking out components, but I could measure them in circuit, for what it's worth.. Look, you should jumper after the amp onto 8 leg. After amp you have cap, right after that cap. That way you eliminate the possibility of trace from that last cap to 8 leg being broke.

73’s. Very Good job. I did it for single antenna. Install cec 0.41 firmware and when I press 0 button the radio blocked and impossible to to on hf mod. ?

If you turn it off and press and hold PTT and then turn it on, flashlight should turn on. If not, that means one of the buttons is sticking.

@@codernov yes flashlight work when press ptt and turn it on. Factory service also. Tx/rx work on vhf/uhf but firmware doesn’t want pass hf mode when I press on the 0 button. I don’t understand what is the problem. I Check all the bip bip as you. ??? Radio and screen blocked

The firmware will hang if it can't communicate with the Si4732 - check your soldering and also check that you haven't accidentally displaced and of the tiny SMDs near where the board attaches.

Use a small solder sucker to remove those components from the board. With the solder removed the components will literally just fall away as there's nothing to hold them on. It's so much easier and much quicker to use a sucker, you'll soon get the hang of it. Get a small one, the bigger suckers are harder to handle.

@@codernov Yes I'm inspired to try a board on my Radio myself but I'll remove components with a sucker. You can lift a chip off of a board in less than 10 seconds that way with no mess...no solder flux...and no clean up needed afterwards. I never use a cleaning spray because the sucker removes everything. OK it takes practice to get the hang of using a solder sucker but that's what professionals use and that's how they get to be pro. Fast, clean and no damage to the circuit board or the component itself..you can reuse it if you want to.

I installed CEC_051.HF.packed.bin version and when I push the "0" button the message "wait" appears on the screen and it can stay there for 5 min and still don't enter the am/fm mode... Have I go and buy new radio,or something could be done? Thank you in advance!

@@codernov Well, I’ve checked the mod board, few components were "in the air", so I soldered them. Pity I can't upload a photo here. The signal on FM radio became better, but still too many noise... I've tried these: 1) CEC (02-051 tried all).HF.packed.bin - this one still shows endless "wait" 2) f4hwn.packed.v2.7 3) firmware.X320 4) fw_modded 5) k5_v2.01.33_publish 6) egzumer_v0.22.packed 7) k5 Firmware v2.01.26_publish 8) uv-k5-firmware-fagci-mod-v1.0.1 The only one which receives FM is firmware.X320..... I don’t knw if the radio can transmit, because I only have one... I feel so disappointed and it seems cheaper to buy new one the trying to fix this one, I have no clew what is wrong with this one... can I, somehow, send you a picture of how the mod board is installed?

Is there a firmware that will allow all your mods to be utilized? I am looking to do three different mods to one radio and run a firmware that will support them. I would like to do the sensitivity mod, V2 board mod, and the eeprom mod. I have already ordered the components recommended in those videos, so I am working with that less expensive 24M02RD eeprom. I checked out the link you provided for the Fagci reborn, but I didn't find a bin file to flash my radio, and I didn't know if it would support the lower frequencies of the V2 board. Thanks again for your helpful videos. I am new to these radios and do know much when it comes to all the different firmware's available.

Yes. Here is that firmware -- t.me/uvk5_spectrum_talk/54231/56454 it requires upgraded EEPROM. Before you install it, you backup your calibrations and configuration using uvk5prog-win, then you install it using uvk5prog-win. After it's done installing, you turn off the radio, press and hold 7 key and turn on radio, let it finish FFxing. Then turn off radio, press and hold EXIT key and turn on radio, let it finish initializing. Then you install SSB patch, this is a two step install. For SSB patch you connect radio to computer and just turn on your radio in normal mode just like you usually turn it on. Get go here -- codepen.io/fagcinsk/full/PogrKrq and click Connect, and then click Write SSB Patch. After it is done, installation is finished. You short press M key, and select Si47xx, and hit the 0 key, and change to AM, there should be sound. Then 0 key again, it will change to LSB/USB, there should also be sound. If there is sound, that means you installed everything correctly.

Hi, I bought on Aliexpress the FFC PCB with loose components and assembling is sofar not a big thing since they sent me a picture with printed numbers on it and the numbered the SMD components too with a black marker. Now here comes the problem: They marked number 6 and 9 on the SMD components with a underscore to make clear what is a 6 and what is a 9. BUT in the picture they forgot to do the same. So the 6 could also be a 9. If I send you the picture by mail, would you be able to tell me the values in the marked 6 (or 9) places? I would appreciate this very much. 73's Fokko PA3VOS

Great video man ! A couple of days ago you've made the DR eeprom compatible with the Reborn, if you spend more time on modding I see more bugs fixed and maybe some new features coming.. When I saw the screenshot on the video I was waiting to hear something about your friend from South.. ;) Looking forward for your next video with v2 SI4732 instalation. Is it worth the second antenna installation, CEC 5.1 or Reborn has better performance and signal reception ? Keep on modding 😊

Reborn is going to have better reception performance. @fagci really nailed it. CEC is just egzumer that was cut up so that SSB code can fit. Second antenna is easy man. No special tools, no cutting your PCB. We going to install everything flush with plastic and use pigtail so radio can be easily disassembled. It's like no skill D.I.Y. type of thing, and no special tools required.

Yes you do. It is not resistor though. It is a coil. You need 1 mH, 0.5W. As a matter of fact there is such firmware. Reborn by @fagci. Basically micro controller has limited amount of memory and you can't expand it. But Reborn is total rewrite, it stores its stuff in EEPROM, so that you can fit more stuff into firmware. Спасибо! Very informative video. I was able to draw a circuit diagram for FM and AM inputs from it. Decided to try single antenna modification for v2.1 board. In the process, I asidently broke the LCD connector and need to replace the screen. 😢

Yes. You'd just select BL24C1024 from the EEPROM Type menu and then select Reset EEPROM. But it should pick up that EEPROM automatically when you first insstall it and press hold 7 and then EXIT.

That black thingy is in fact diode. It is BV05C, SOD-323 Electrostatic and Surge Protection (TVS/ESD) ROHS. I measured it in diode mode and it did not measure. Looking at datasheet, no wonder why. Interestingly, Hantek 1833C auto determined it to be capacitor, with 22.9 pF capacitance. Here is the datasheet for it -- static.chipdip.ru/lib/970/DOC041970682.pdf For version 1, original green board, and version 2 without preamp, if you want two antennas, or more precisely separate antenna for the mod, I guess you could stick BV05C right after first capacitor onto ground, so that when you touchy touch the antenna and sparks fly off of you, the Si47xx chip does not fry. How about if you transmit while the 2nd antenna is attached? You will have Si47xx off in that case, you can not transmit and listen to HF with Si47xx SDR at the same time, so nothing is going to happen, imho. Besides, chances of you using two antennas at the same time? Most likely you will have your regular UV-K5 antenna, and a cable attached to 2nd antenna running to your big antenna on the roof, or you will have just one antenna attached to 2nd antenna SMA connector, and your usual UV-K5 antenna will be off, so that you don't mess with that 2nd antenna's parameters. But meh, I wouldn't be picky picky about the absense of BV05C on those previous versions of the HF FULL BAND mod.

Back in the day we were instructed to write zeros a few times in the programmer before installing the eprom into a new circuit just in case whatever watchdog or bootstrap grabs some garbage from the new eprom. Even writing code with the programmer we would zero first. Cheers for the video, I learned something new about some C today… 👍

@@codernov I did some more compairing this weekend and found out its hard to tell wich is better. I swapped the firmwares on both my radio's and it seems the Board with the Pre-Amp is the best, not sure about the firmware. Only thing i noticed is the Fagci Firmware has louder volume and doesn't really need the Pre-Amp board . I was planning to make a video testing out the 2, but there for i need exactly 2 radio's wich have the same board installed.

Reborn firmware now works with M24M02-DR chip -- t.me/uvk5_spectrum_talk/54231/56454 @fagci went on vacation. I fixed it myself. If I could fix Reborn, not knowing C language, and seeing code for the first time, Italians can fix the IJV firmware as well so that it works with M24M02-DR. If you new to this, best chip is A125, links are in description, but if you already bought DR, no problemo, it works just fine with @fagci Reborn firmware. 😆

I have followed your instructions on installing the Fagci Firmware and all seems to work. Exept when i go to the SI47XX menu i can listen in monitor mode on the FM and AM bands, but as soon as i go to the LSB and USB bands, its impossible to open up the squelch to listen in . i haven't found any information how to change this . Could you tell me how this works on the SSB bands?

That's because I haven't provided you with instructions for SSB. After you install firmware, you have to apply patch. You connect radio via cable in regular mode with radio just on, and you go here codepen.io/fagcinsk/pen/PogrKrq , and click Connect and then click Apply SSB Patch. After it's done, you disconnect cable and reboot radio. Then your SSB will work.

By the way. You can only apply that patch if you have updated EEPROM. Patch won't fit onto stock EEPROM.

@@Elaba83 Let's track back and do everything again from the start. In video description you have link to firmware, download it. Using k5prog-win install firmware. Turn off radio. Press and hold 7 key and turn on radio. After 0xFFing done, turn off radio. Press and hold EXIT key and turn on radio. After everything is done, turn off radio. Turn radio back on. Go to that link and apply the patch. Turn radio off. Turn radio on. Short press M key and select Si47xx. You will enter FM mode. Click 0 key to go into AM mode. In AM mode there will be sound, static. Hit 0 key one more time and you will enter SSB mode, there will be sound, static. Now you hit the F key for LSB or USB. For this to work you need to have both Si4732 and larger EEPROM. Try it one more time, retrace your steps.

@@codernov About 2 weeks ago, i had the firmware working on SSB, without the Patch. But the performance was worse compared to the CEC 0.5 firmware. So I flashed back to CEC without performing the "uninstall" procedure. Now since the patch is available, I followed your instructions again and also did the patch. Exactly like you discribe the steps above. Perhaps I need to do the uninstall procedure aswell before starting over?

Awesome video as always. I have the new ver 3 i think mod board with amp and possible two antenna connectors . I think I will order the new memory chip as well. Trouble is you keep making great mods and i can't keep up!

You mean adding caps and stuff to sound amp, or are you talking about shorting a resistor to increase volume in Si4732 mod?

@@codernov I'm looking forward for the easier job just because today, motivated by you, I managed to put the HF kit in place and install the CEC 0.5 HF firmware and it's enough at the moment. I don't think that I'll be able to fiddle with such tiny components one more time, using only a cheap plastic magnifying lens and a soldering gun (the classic transformer type with copper wire tip).

@@VassVince Oh that thing. I hope you at least used flux, flux make solder flow. Yes, tools make job easier. You can do this job with a solder iron from dollar store, the not classic but cheap small chinese type. I think you need solder iron and jewels mask, in total that will be around $5 shipped. You just gave me idea for video. Basic tools! I'll do a video about sound mod. No problem.

Dear Alex, I have a soldering iron with usb charge but the tip is stubbornly solder repellent, stays dirty whatever I do that is why I took the soldering gun instead. Of course I used flux but not the paste or liquid type but the solid one from pine sapp. Thank you for meeting my demands regarding the videos, I will surely follow your updates!

Hello My HY-6210 dead after 2 month of use, not connect to usb or hdmi, power led ok, update software ok but not work. Can you help me, i have 2 question: 1- If you power on camera with usb, how many amperes it consume with usb tester? 2- if you disconnect the imx334 sensor board, the camera connect to computer or not?

How can you flash firmware if you don't see anything on screen? Perhaps using that extra button? How about you inspect USB and HDMI connectors? Those, as you know, are the weak point, because of cable strength. That is why my cables are tied well. You should inspect connectors well under the microscope.

More channels is not really interesting. What would be interesting (for me) is more letters for channel names.

Right now to use LSB & USB in Reborn, you need larger EEPROM. Patch does not fit onto stock 8 kbyte EEPROM. You could go with CEC for that, but it is cut up so that SSB fits. So to use Si4732 and still have fully functional radio you need Reborn and you need larger EEPROM -- which is no problem, $1.62 for 2 chips. Like I said, it's not about number of channels.
