Judging by the after footage this trailer was not properly loaded. 1 the fridge is behind the axles { manufacturing error Flaw} 2 all the weight is at the rear which adds to the un stability and added to the sway where if the weight was at the front of the trailer this accident could of been avoided a definet anti sway control should of been used at the hitch. Soft tires on the tow vehicle would have contributed to the swaying problem - but mainly the trailer was not loaded properly in the first place...

Anyone watching this video now and getting scared to pull a travel trailer. Make sure your pickup can safely tow your rig. Based on the photos, they upgraded from their crashed rig to a GD Imagine 2670MK which is 32' long with a GVWR of 8,500 lbs. Something this size can technically be pulled behind some half ton pickups but if you want to pull it safely and comfortably, you at least need a 3/4 ton pickup.

To help with accidents or being robbed have a 24/7 Ring Cam and recording load up in the cloud so even if they steal cam or it gets damaged in wreck it will still show what happened. I use mine to check on my mom and warn me if mom is trying to get out of the house.

I didn’t think anyone could have it worse than me, but you guys over the last few videos I’ve seen has a pretty bad…… me I’m taking care of my mother who has Alzheimer’s and dementia. The worst that you can have she doesn’t change she can walk around, but she broke her hip when she fell and I have to deal with changing her diapers because she used to be able to use the bathroom like a normal adult but lately she’s just been pooping and peeing in the diapers so every time I have to give her a shower right afterwards. What makes it worse than that when she does it three times a day it drives me crazy and it is so gross. And she doesn’t sleep through the night and she will walk around where her husband is, which is my dad who passed away two years ago. I have to lock the doors to make sure she doesn’t get out and walk on her own so my life has been a living hell 24/7 since the beginning of 2021 ….. so me having a life is nonexistent. I don’t date I don’t go out. I can’t do much and if I do leave without my mom, it’s just in the front yard so she can see me through the window. I really don’t have any help and it’s sad to say this, but when my mom dies, I will be celebrating…. Pretty much at this point in time anyway I’m taking care of a stranger. She doesn’t really know who I am and that’s not the same mom I grew up with. But she’s the vessel that my mom used to be so I’m doing my best and trust me. No one wants to date a guy that lives with his mom even though I’m taking care of her.

If a vet treated my furbaby and me like that, he would of met my EVIL side and I would of made his business go down hill with nothing but NEGATIVE comments and me standing outside the vet telling my story to anyone walking in…. I would tell them they should go to another vet because they don’t care they just want your money. Might even taken to court…. And God knows what I would do if that vet came to confront me face to face…. My child died because you wanted to go home for the weekend and didn’t want to deal with it till Monday. Sorry to anyone who has unexpectedly lost a love one human or a furbaby. 40:10 I can see that pain hasn’t gone away….. it’s understandable

I’m sorry this happened to you. It can happen to new RVers and veteran RVers. But what’s important is to learn from it. To stop sway you need to “stretch” the rig. Manually applying the trailer brakes will do this, and worst case scenario ram the trailer brakes and slam the gas down. Hitting the brakes on your truck makes things bad really fast.

This is a round about compliment on your story telling ability. You don't suck. Lol. Usually when I click on thumbnails of unknown content I'll find that after 5 mins of listening, due to the person's inability to tell a story and keep me interested, I'll want to rip my ears off, but just click off as it hurts less. You had me interested from beginning to end, and I still liked you when you were done, so good on you for your talent in keeping a viewer glued to the screen. Sorry for what you went through but it all worked out and you got a better home for it. Cheers.

To be fair many of your problems are somewhat self inflicted. You we're traveling all around the country through no cell service areas all the time but didn't have a satellite phone. You knew the lock to your trailer had a common key but didn't change it. You had no cameras connected to the trailer in case you had to leave it. You didn't even have a GPS device so you wouldn't have to rely on the Internet for directions. Not to be mean but you're angry at Progressive and yet there are so many things you could have done to change the whole situation had you prepared.

As many, including you probably, know, hitting the brakes is by far the worst decision with sway. And is the instinctual action by most people in that moment. Definitely speaks to the amount of mental preparation one needs when towing a large trailer, especially being quick on the trailer brakes. If you can hit the trailer brakes, that's THE only solution.

I like the tote tank that you have and you know I think overall I’ve had my I had my camper for nine years. It’s paid off. I just put new tires on mine five years ago. I put a new propane switcheroo on it so it switches the tanks I want I want put antenna on it. I bought a new generator I thought about buying a couple solar panels. I wanna put them up top if I came and bought a side-by-side, I’d have to have at least a 13 foot garage inside because I’m not gonna be using a side-by-side and most likely will probably get a 30 foot camper in the back half of. It will probably be a club golf cart type thing you can’t Side-by-side but you can have golf carts, but I would want 2 Wheel Dr. and be a little easier for me with a wiper and something a little higher the speed at Lake only about 6 miles an hour, but the thing does do 25 miles an hour all your newer ones can do 47 miles an houror 50 miles an hour

Yes, the story about the young couple who spoke with you sounds a bit strange. Quite a bit. I think your spider senses were kicking in. Fewer things in life upset me more than having my stuff stolen. As you know, it's not so much about losing the stuff as it is the thought that someone would do this.. Plus the whole process of replacing your stuff which you may have personalized.

You don't need internet to get GPS co-ordinates. The GPS unit in your phone can be queried all by itself. And if you have a solo GPS in the rig, that's another good reason why.

I am about as anti regulation type of person you’ll meet, but hearing you speak with such naivety, ignorance to what you were doing and how to avoid/correct the situation, and complete lack of comprehension after the fact of what got you into this situation in the first place, I think having a special license to pull RVs would be the best bet to avoid more people like you from killing people on the road. Unbelievable man.

I agree with all the accelerate and brake trailer with brake controller. The hitch you had does not really have good sway control. Minimum add a friction sway control. Before going Hensley crazy look at Reese straight line hitch. Use for years and love. Now going from Motor Home and back to Travel Trailer. Happy Camping

@25:48 One lesson of this story: Never use Progressive! -took 8 hours to get a tow confirmation for your trailer that ended up being robbed -each call to Progressive = a possible different call center with no access to previous call center notes thereby increasing your frustration X 10 -when you need the insurance you paid for to cover your losses, Progressive denies your claim (Progressive is a name for a type of political party that suffers from the woke mind virus....everything woke touches turns to poop lol...because Progressive tenets are based on woke hierarchy you should have said your trailer was marginalized and a trailer of color. You might have gotten your claim + reparations) What a wild experience you two endured! Thank you for sharing your story and being honest. We just got a 2020 Nissan Titan Pro-4X and are beginning the education needed to do some basic camping. We are older then you two by a few decades so we have some life experience to draw on but some of these things you are sharing are news to us!

I've used Progressive for years and have always had a good experience. His claim was denied because there were no signs of break in. The reason there were no signs of break in is they decided to use an inadequate lock and they never thought to put up cameras in the unit. If you don't protect your own property why would you expect someone else to pay for what you allowed someone to come in and take?

OKay, everyone has mentioned using the manual trailer brake! More importantly is you need to load the trailer correctly. You had FAR FAR too much weight in the rear of the trailer!!! PERIOD!!! Not enough weight in the front! Get that stupid generator off the back of the trailer and put in in your truck bed!!! I will wager that that alone would have prevented your trailer sway!! It is ALWAYS not enough weight up in the front!!!

I'm sure I'm beating a dead horse at this point, but your first reaction to sway should be to manually apply the trailer brake. 2nd best thing you can do is to actually speed up; but obviously, this isn't ideal. The worst thing you can do is slow down. Trailer sway is caused by the trailer moving faster than the tow vehicle, so braking the tow vehicle is only going to make things worse. Glad everyone was ok.

Didnt go through all the comments but did you ever figure what the vibration was? Will it come back? Was the vibration even the cause. Any time ANYTHING dont feel/isnt right, slow down and get it figured out. Get professionals to check out the problem if you are not mechanically inclined. This is for ANYONE out there.

Glad you were both OK. I can't help but wonder if you had a sway bar properly installed and adjusted. You did not explain. I had 2 tires blow on the left side of our travel trailer within an hour of each other. Because I had my sway bar adjusted, I never even felt the truck move either time. The first time I noticed what looked like smoke, so I pulled over. Tire was shredded so I put on the spare. Later I was on I25 going about 55-60 when a motorcyclist passed telling me to pull over. The other left tire had blown, so I found a tire shop that would stay open a few minutes and mount me a new tire. So many people don't think they need to use a weight distribution hitch and a sway bar, but they can save lives. Everyone should find a CAT scale and weigh every axle when fully loaded. 10-15% of trailer weight should be on the hitch, as well as every other criteria must be with in limits. No guessing. There are some great videos demonstrating how the incorrect location of the load in your trailer can cause dangerous sway.
