Great idea to use the magnets❣️I enjoy seeing your creations even when they’re incomplete. That’s such a cute Horny Toad character. I can appreciate your great workmanship in creating the very sturdy body parts. 👍 😍❤️😍

❤ I'm a doll maker in South Africa and I used to do the magnetic heads when my eldest son was little (24yrs ago). He was such an expressive and visual little boy, so one day I decided to make "all" the characters from his favourite book and QUICKLY learned that that would be a massive undertaking 😂, so I made one body and each characters head and he would change them up as I read to him😂😂😂. It became a challenge the more books he wanted. But I absolutely love your work and love watching your channel!!! (I fixed a short dowel in the centre of the magnet attached to the body and had a opening in each head at the center where the magnet has that hole, it kept the head in place so my son didn't slide the magnets off each other when he turned the heads. (Golly you brought back some good memories for me today 😊)

@@shanimarais9695 Thanks for sharing - what a great story! Reminds me of topsy-turvey dolls times 10. 😆 I suspect you wouldn't need the dowel if you used rare earth magnets - they are super strong! I don't think they were available then... Your story highlights the creativity of artists & craftspeople everywhere - we figure it out!

It's a shame that happened. I think it's someone who thought that would be funny, I don't know. Low level person either way. I always wonder about people who do these things, how exactly do they explain where these pieces come from. Someone would very likely want to get something similiar for their own property, so how does a theif explain where to go to find it. Karma has a way of sorting things out.

So sorry this happened to you. I’m blessed to own four of your dolls btw. But this underlines two truisms I’ve observed: 1. Artists tend to unestimate the value of what we make will be in the eyes of strangers 2. Too many people’s moral compass is pointed straight to h*ll. I do hope the sculpture is discovered and it’s all some misunderstanding. I’ve also heard of artists putting mini trackers in their pieces as a safeguard to theft.

Hi, thanks, great video. Question I have is, I've got a lot of odd socks, and some items of clothing that cannot be repaired, I don't want to send them to land fill, how can I prepare them to be used to stuff soft toys? Also tips on equipment to use. Also could I use the items of clothing and socks as they are without cutting them up? Many thanks

It doesn't work well to keep items whole - you get lumps. Cutting up into bits creates a fluffy stuffing, especially if you are using multiple types of fiber (cottons, wools, synthetics, etc). Socks (and other knits) work well as stuffing, but they still need to be shredded. I find that the rotary cutter and old mat that I describe in the video is the most efficient set of tools. You can use scissors, but you'll get hand cramps quickly. Do not use this type of stuffing for anything that will be laundered - it doesn't dry quickly, even in a tumble drier.

@@AgosiaArts Thanks for such an informative video! I had the same questions as @eg and so thanks for saving me from hand cramps by pointing out using scissors will cause that :) In addition - if I want to stuff a pillow that I plan to use for body support (and so it does not have to be super soft), would bigger scraps make it softer or harder? I am also planning to mix it with polyfill to make it fluffier. Do you think that would work?

Just glancing around here, but - the herringbone was such a great choice for the head! The directionality suggestions short feathers. Learning a lot from your channel, thank you.

Awesome idea to use your old rotary blades and mates for this. I’m glad I saw this video before I cut up my scraps. I was planning to use scalloped edge pinking shears to do this while sitting on the throne. It hadn’t dawned on me to use the rotary cutter. Hmmm someone needs to invent a home use fabric shredder so we could use it like a paper shredder.
