Beware: pinking shears will give you massive aches and pains! Don't ask how I know. 😆 have you ever seen the device rug hookers use to cut strips of wool? It's a handcranked circular blade. If someone managed to string together a bunch of those, maybe. But again, you'd need some strength to power thru. There are industrial fabric shredders, but they are big machines. Nothing for home use. 😔 But really, no market for it... who else except a few crazy fiber artists would want one. 😄

It doesn't work well to keep items whole - you get lumps. Cutting up into bits creates a fluffy stuffing, especially if you are using multiple types of fiber (cottons, wools, synthetics, etc). Socks (and other knits) work well as stuffing, but they still need to be shredded. I find that the rotary cutter and old mat that I describe in the video is the most efficient set of tools. You can use scissors, but you'll get hand cramps quickly. Do not use this type of stuffing for anything that will be laundered - it doesn't dry quickly, even in a tumble drier.

I had the same questions as @eg and so thanks for saving me from hand cramps by pointing out using scissors will cause that :) In addition - if I want to stuff a pillow that I plan to use for body support (and so it does not have to be super soft), would bigger scraps make it softer or harder? I am also planning to mix it with polyfill to make it fluffier. Do you think that would work?
