Another option for training for a strong grip. The exercise is performed by rotating a 16 kg crowbar from the middle on a straight arm, so that the hand is in extreme positions, continuing to maintain a full grip in them. It is recommended to select the weight of the weight so that you can maintain the grip of your fingers when performing a figure eight rotation several times. Therefore, the initial weight of the projectile for each can be individual. Power load gives a more beneficial effect for fencing with historical types of cutting weapons; the exercise is suitable for historical fencing and stunt training. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndB8nqqLnLK8nnk.htmlsi=-ONeCCRsoEnPp6Yf
@GW-Holten3 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for sharing this exercise. We'll give it a try. However, it also sounds like the wrist is particularly stressed. Is there anything to be aware of to avoid long-term damage to the joints?
@LongswordRussia3 ай бұрын
@@GW-Holten It is necessary to gradually increase the weight, starting from 6-8 kg; it is not advisable to immediately give the load to the maximum. Light weight allows you to first check whether there is any pain in the extreme positions of the wrist. The wrist needs to be warmed up well. Increasing the angle of the wrist in all directions is also important to do little by little. Performing the exercise slowly is very important; this is not a high-speed load, but a smooth tension of the tendons. I don’t know how correctly Google will translate the idea/concept itself - but the point is to replace sharp jerking loads during disarming in fencing with soft work with heavy weight for critical angles of inclination of the wrist. The problem with the grip in fencing is not that it weakly holds the hands in a STRAIGHT position, which is comfortable for the grip. The problem is that we lose our grip in the extreme positions of the wrist at uncomfortable angles! The smooth rotational path avoids sudden extreme wrist angles where the fingers physically open up and lose grip. As a result of exercises with different tilt positions of the steel crowbar in the hand, we alternate the load at different grip angles. Another important point is that this exercise is not about the aesthetics of rotating an object, as if it were a moulinette for a weapon. Therefore, it is highly recommended to rest your fist on your thigh! There is no need to hold your entire arm freely on the weight, the fingers work here at different angles, there is no extra load required to hold the weight with a freely lowered hand, perform the exercise using the hip of the leg as a lever to rotate the movement of the crowbar in your hand!

All right. We'll definitely give it a shot.

Being doing this for years among other exercises for grip , wrist and forearm strength...and it works . We also keep track of our grip strength with a Hand Dynamometer. Btw when doing the exercise dont be lazy....stretch your arms in front of you, keep them at shoulder height. If it gets too easy separate your hands a bit every time...do it slow ...do it both ways coiling up and coiling down...add more weight.

Our sparring daggers are approx. 40 cm long. We have based our measurements on replicas of historical rondel daggers. In some rare cases these could be up to 50 cm long. As far as we know, there is no official maximum length for daggers in HEMA.

Curious about the swords for this competition. What are the rules as far as blade length, weight, etc?
@GW-Holten5 ай бұрын
Fencing Feders up to a total length of 139 cm (~55") are permitted. The blade usually varies between 96 cm (~38") and 104 cm (~41"). The Feders may weigh up to 1600 g (3.5 lbs). The ends of the blades must be backfolded or rounded. It is important that the steel of the Feders is worked in such a way that the blade bends significantly when a maximum force of 13 kg (28.6 lbs) is applied.

The Fightknight focuses on high-class fencing. Points are awarded for thrusts, hits and cuts. Wrestling and disarming are also permitted. Other forms of attack violate the general HEMA rules and the Fightknight rules and would be punished accordingly. The focus at HEMA is simply different than, for example, at Bohurt. At the end of the day, it's a different sport. Hope you injoy it.
@GW-Holten7 ай бұрын
@damianlakomski4661 I can understand why you see it that way. However, in the current orientation of HEMA sport, the focus is on reducing the risk of injury and clean fencing technique. HEMA does not attempt to correctly imitate or represent realistic duels to the death. That is why we have decided to ban kicks and punches. I hope you can still enjoy the fights.

This is just combat sports. Not tactic, no strategy, just attacks for points, noone thinks of the defence, just offence. If all fought like this in the middle ages, we would have had double of people killed in duells and wars.
@GW-Holten7 ай бұрын
Yes, it is primarily a modern martial art based on historical sources. In earlier times, fighting was much more defensive, as hardly any protective equipment was worn. For some people, it may seem as if it was just brute force slashing and stabbing. In reality, however, it takes an enormous understanding of tactics at this level of fencing to adapt to your opponent's approach and overcome him. Double hits are also always annoying for the fencers, and not just because of the points awarded. The fencers strive for a clean fencing style. But this is martial arts, not an exhibition match.
@zamolxezamolxe81317 ай бұрын
@@GW-Holten i beg to differ. it is a competitive modern combat sport. with rules. not a martial art. if it was a martial art, one would end in a tomb, and the other in jail. they have protection? that is why they just attack without considering their defence. the feder sword is far lighter and more flexible, not allowing bindung almost at all. the footwork is very linear. u barely see any circular movements, not to mention vertical ones. similar to olympic fencing and kendo and naginata do. all the 3 mentioned are sportification of a traditional martial art used for killing on battlefield, duel or some fight in the streets / self defence, u name it. besides, the bigger guy featured here kind of uses his size advantage to just storm forward constantly. im not saying, it is good or bad ,it works for him sometimes, but if it was realy a life and death match, the last thing u wanna do is just storm forwars without considering ur own protection. hence it is a combat sport with points for me and has to do with medieval traditional swordsmanship as much as kendo with kenjutsu, naginata do with naginata jutsu and olympic fencing with medieval rapier or sabre. btw, im a swordsman myself. for decades already. my system is not of importance.
@GW-Holten7 ай бұрын
I've already agreed with you once and I'll do it a second time. It's a competitive sport. Whether you want to call it combat sports or martial arts is entirely up to you. I see no problem with you not liking this type of fencing. Everyone has their own preferences. But it is clear that this sport does not claim to be a duel to the death.

Gerrit, one of our coaches, is a very experienced fencer who knows the HEMA scene in Central Europe very well. For each fight, he tries to find two fencers who he considers to be of roughly equal strength and whose fighting styles he thinks promise an exciting fight if they are pitted against each other. He then asks the relevant candidates whether they have the time and inclination to take part in the Fight Knight.
