I have a similar story, except I've been living here 4 10 yrs. When we just moved here, there was a beautiful forest. We'd go and take walks in it every day. But since 2-3 yrs ago, the forest is almost completely gone. Only a small group of trees left. But a couple of yrs back, there was no end to it. I've drawn and painted it a few times, whenever there was an art competition, to express my feelings. It's usually a green and beautiful forest at first, but the longer you look at it, the sadder it looks.

She is so beautiful. It was such a joy to watch her come to life over the year, and she she turned out so incredibly well. I love the idea behind her so well. I love how she fits so well with your other nymph like dolls but shows the devastating reality nowadays, that often times, the nature is gone. Really looking forward to the long video!

This is stunning. That said, I share your heartbreak. Where I live, it's heavily wooded. Each year, though, many acres of trees (on public land) are sprayed with Roundup, then clear cut in the name of "forest management." When really it's for money. The money they get from selling the timber. The community is against it. We speak out against it at board meetings, but things go unchanged. 😢 About 2 years ago, the place my family and I would harvest pounds of chanterelle mushrooms from, was sprayed and then logged. 😢

That’s so so sad. 😔 Some of the words didn’t fit in this short & limited video, but when I saw my childhood forest logged, I felt like my friend just died. It’s truly heartbreaking. Here in Lithuania we have a private organization which acquires old-growth forests and preserves them. I’m so grateful for people and organizations like this. Hopefully there are more of them all around the world.

Can I keep the doll as a air dry clay doll or is it better to have it in porcelain? I am a student in arts and wish I could spend more money on doll making and have tried since a kid and never succeed. I also don't have money for all of that... I am wondering if I should subscribe to your online lessons but I am worried it might only teach me about this process and not how to do dolls on a budget
@Nymphaidolls10 күн бұрын
You can keep the doll from air-dry clay. My BJD masterclass is about sculpting the doll from clay. Then you can cast it in other materials or leave it like this. It’s possible to paint it with acrylics and soft pastels, seal it with varnish and have a finished doll (painting steps are not included in the class). All the materials I use are listed in one of the course pages. If you can’t find it, just email me and I’ll send the link. ☺️

@@Nymphaidolls thank you so much. Even if I don't plan on casting it with any other material until I understand sculpting air dry clay dolls, I really want to get started with your course one day. I want to make dolls too and I have a question. When you make one with air dry clay, can you just leave it as it is as a finished doll? Can you make dolls fully made from air dry clay? Is it okay and not fragile?
@Nymphaidolls11 күн бұрын
Yes, you can! I started this way too. Made one-of-a-kind dolls from air-dry clay and even sold them. There are ways to make the clay more sturdy and long lasting. You might need to construct wire armature, use primer and protective varnish. Maybe even mix up a little bit PVA glue into the clay to make the small details stronger. But it’s totaly doable 👌

how do you dye the air dry clay after the sculpting?

You can use acrylic paint for the base color and use soft pastels for blushing. Coat everything with matt spray varnish to protect the paint.

Let's discuss: Did you ever feel that your art is silly or not serious enough? How did you overcome that?
@dreamingwide19 күн бұрын
I often felt the opposite, that it was too serious and so people didn't like it that much. People don't enjoy sad or hard to watch themes. Comparing myself to other artists online was what destroyed how I viewed my art. I had a 10 year art block after that. Came back to art a year ago or so but it will never be the same as before that art block

I had a similar experience with school. I studied writing and minored in art and had a lot I needed to "unlearn" after. Another part of it was being true to my own style and tastes and being okay that it might never be super popular, and being happy that I am making what I want to make.

I’ve been a Doll Artist since early 2003. I switched gears after retiring after 20 years & make handmade resin doll eyes now under Chronic Art Dolls … My 30yo daughter sells dolls in my shop now & Etsy takes a MINIMUM of $50-75 on every doll sale 😭💔 So be sure to jack up your prices to help cover this fee. I paid Etsy over $6,000 in 2023 just in FEES… another $5,000 in shipping. It’s insanity
@Nymphaidolls26 күн бұрын
That’s why the personal website might be the answer. 😔 Etsy now has a field where you can calculate the profit of each listing. This helps to understand how big the fees will be, so you can price the items accordingly. It still sucks though.

@NymphaidollsАй бұрын
The full tutorial is available on my Patreon! I folded the edge inside and used super glue to attach it to the sole. Then to cover the visible edge, I cut out the inner sole and using some glue attached it to the sole too.

Oh, I completely understand! In the class I broke it down into sections, so you could view it as many small tasks to achieve. But it still can be daunting. I try to approach it as these steps: creating the base, detailing the parts, putting everything together.
