I recently installed a snorkel on my ln106 and noticed there’s a plug like flap on the airbox cap. That part you painted blue. Have you blocked this at all? Or know if it’s even needed
@thebus868527 күн бұрын
Hey mate, thats actually there for a reason so we took it out to paint. Its the because if any water gets in your air box it makes its way through that as sort of a one way seal

Should have waited for the dowels, not only it alignes the head gasket, but it also alignes the head to the block. If its slightly off, it can leak combustion gases into coolant. 3L is notorious for that, so have to make sure everything is dead on.

@teranceable2 ай бұрын
mate were they standard piston you put in or were they piston suited to run a turbo and were did you get them thanks
@thebus86852 ай бұрын
Hey mate, I just got slightly oversized pistons. Pretty sure they are standard apart from that. I ordered them through the engine shop who did all the work on the block and head to get them ready for a rebuild. As long as you aren’t looking to crank the power right up it will be reliable with a turbo.
@greentea95933 ай бұрын
Hey bro what engine oil do you recommend for 3L turbo?
@thebus86852 ай бұрын
Het mate, so 15w 40 mineral based is what i have in it now but thats mainly because it has had a fresh rebuild. Ill swap to part synthetic or full synthetic later on in the engines life.

From where did you feed the Turbo oil? Saw some people use the alternator oil lines to feed their turbo but i can see you fed yours directly from the block. Is it a 3L, 5L or the 2LT? Only asking because I want to decide what fitting/adapter i'd need to buy for the turbo oil feed line
@thebus86857 ай бұрын
Hey mate, i downloaded the 3L/2LT engine manual which has all your oil bolt holes on the block. Try this link www.manualslib.com/products/Toyota-3l-4002934.html

That bolt that came out can be replaced by using a Hi-tensile stud and locking nut. Did you time the injector pump with the dial gauge in the head plug of the pump or just set it using the scribe lines on the inj pump and timing cover? Those marks are just assembly marks and to get the best out of the engine the pump should be timed using the gauge. Takes all of a few minutes to do.
@thebus86857 ай бұрын
We used a dial gauge to time it up on the original engine rebuild video. The local diesel shop let us borrow it. So we knew those marks were right from when we first ran it after the rebuild

Hey mate was there a noticeable difference in power after you added the turbo
@thebus86858 ай бұрын
Hey mate, actually had my pipe from the turbo to the engine pop off while I was driving and it was a considerable drop in power until I could pull over. Before I was having to rev the guts out of the poor rig up hills but now it cruises up hills gaining speed where it used to struggle
@bustedoff60388 ай бұрын
A bit off topic here but you should probably get a custom airbox the stock air box cant flow enough air for the turbo(too resistive) and can lead to turbo failure.
