short term: if you wish to learn how to defend yourself asap, it depends on how many options are available, assuming you can't pick "mma", 1 option available: combat sambo, 2 options available (1 for grappling, 1 for striking): boxing and judo, 3 options available (within mma): boxing, wrestling and jiu-jitsu ... I think those are your best bets for short term self defence

Steven Seagal is a 7th dan black belt in Aikido, he spent more than 15 years learning in Japan under Shihan Hiroshi Isoyama and Seiseki Abbe Sensei... He also learned Wing Chun under Sifu Randy Williams (he worked as Seagal's bodyguard) then continued learning Wing Chun under GM Samuel Kwok... There are the videos where Seagal and Kwok are doing together Aikido and Wing Chun seminars. Finally, Seagal commented that he is very interested in Systema (Russian martial art and is also used for Self Defense)
