How can someone like yourself look at this show and the book, and think it warrants such in depth analysis? I think that the most talented writers should look at House of the Dragon and Fire and Blood and learn that this is NOT how you write. It doesn't achieve anything that ASOIAF achieves. I look at European history and I think Fire and Blood is a horrible waste of time. There is no reason for someone to read a history book about a fantasy history. They should be reading Jonathan Sumption's Hundred Years War history series or something useful. A fake fantasy history only hurts it's world building. World building was never a strength coming from GRRM. Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings, and Storm of Swords all were more narrow in scope. They didn't tell you about every lord and what he was eating. The world specifically revealed just enough to build up the plot. Then in A Feast of Crows, George went crazy leaning more onto his weakness, which is world building, than his strength, which is characters. Yes, characters are George's strengths. His understanding of history is pretty midwit tier if you think about it. His world building just adds too much contrived fluff that goes nowhere. His strengths are his characters and plots in the first three books. Once the Red Wedding hits, the series peaks. But anyway, people don't understand what made GoT good in the first seasons. It was the plots in the first three books that gave Dan and Dave good source material. This show has no good source material and frankly should never have been made because it's YA tier garbage.

I think HotD is better than GoT at this point, I love it so much and it just gets better every episode.

Interesting theory I have: We watch as Alicent strips off her green cloak, sort of symbolic to her position and power and prison that she has had her entire life. She is dressed in white, symbolic of innocence and peace and freedom, and we see her in the water and mist, looking up to a bird. Obviously this is meant to symbolise her pondering on what it is to truly be free. But that bird is a buzzard. Buzzards were seen infrequently in GOT and only with wargs, we saw them a lot around the wildlings and Bran, I saw this and thought instantly, Alicent is a warg. Now I know this probably wasn't in the book, but it would be a power kept relatively secret, especially is Alicent uses it for her own ends and breaks away from king's landing. I think it would be interesting to see Alicent come into this sort of 'god-given' power, and it would be very GRRM coded to explore her themes of power through some sort of new-found agency. Just a cool bit of thinking I had / headcanon, but interested to hear what others may think?

Regarding the dragon keepers costume design, the show didn't have the budget for the armor; so instead they went with the monk outfits. The outfits also served the purpose to reinforce the belief that the dragons are thought of as Gods.

I thought that Sara, ended up in Essos. That was the gossip with the ladies in Season 1. Is she still the Black Swan?

House of the Dragon is Garbage. They completely broke their own lore for the sake of virtue signaling and no one cares and it’s disgusting. This is what our society has become. Instead of coming up with new interesting characters from the other parts of the world, which they could’ve easily have done, no I’m sorry that would take actual F$&king talent. They race swap because they just couldn’t be bothered with it. Which is even more disrespectful..

I think they made everyone too nice. By the end of the story there's no doubt that Rhaenyra is much more of a villain than Aegon. I can't see show Rhaenyra getting there. They've turned the women I to poor, hapless victims of violent, scheming men. The book places it straight on Alicent and Rhaenyra.

However, the scene where Rhenyra calls up Vermithor and clearly would be able to ride him shows some relevance of Thargaryan¨s blood to the dragons.

This is a silly point tbh. All the dragonseeds who claimed a dragon, are dragonseeds, hence why they can control a dragon. It still speaks to Targaryen exceptionalism because at least ONE parent had to be Targaryen in order for them to be able to lay claim.

I'd make the tier list like this [with dead dragons in brackets]: S tier: [Balerion], Vhagar, The Cannibal, Vermithor A tier: Dreamfyre, [Meraxes], Silverwing B tier: [Meleys], Caraxes, Sheepstealer C tier: [Quicksilver], Seasmoke, Syrax, Sunfyre, Grey Ghost D tier: Moondander, Vermax, [Arrax], Tessarion F tier (too small to fight): Tyraxes, Stormcloud, Morghul, Shrykos Dreamfyre and Silverwing should both be significantly stronger than Caraxes, closer to the power of Vermithor although not quite on his level. Dreamfyre is the second oldest dragon, a few years older than Vermithor, although not quite as big. Silverwing is almost as old as Vermihor and almost as big as Dreamfyre. Caraxes and Meleys are a whole generation younger, but two generations older than Syrax and Seasmoke.

If you look at this show as a social commentary you can really understand the message. Dragons are power. Some is inherited by people who are worthy or unworthy of it. Some strive to claim it. But in the end its fickle and if you understand its nature you can keep it longer. Power needs you to be ready to relinquish it anytime... the understanding that power is not something you gain... but it is within you . You can relinquish power. But you can never lose it.

It's more likely that the incest existed among all Valyrian Dragonlords in order to keep control over their dragons. There's a theory that each dragonnlord family sacrificed an ancestor with blood magic with a particular dragon that is the ancestor of that family's dragons. The incest was probably used to prevent rival families from laying claim to another family's dragons.

People forget how slow Game of Thrones was in the beginning. People have become used to being overstimulated by shows nowadays to the detriment of great storytelling.

Not to pushback, but I myself just recently learned there actually is something special about Targaeryen blood and those of the old Valyrian houses. Early in Valyria's forming there was a blood ritual performed where the blood of dragons was infused into the noble houses, thus their connection with dragons and their future attempts to keep the bloodlines "pure".

I had a hard time stomaching the loss of Meleys and Rhaenys, however, the show set it up beautifully. When Rhaenys volunteers, she gives a knowing and sad smile and everything is quiet. I feel like we were supposed to know that she would die and then when it happened, it was still heartwrenching.

I´m fully with you on Alicent being immensely interesting. Skimming the fandom discussions many seem to hate her (which I attribute a lot to a desire I often see in fandoms to have clean cut heroes and villains non of that complex ´flawed but understandable´ real life stuff) but I find her to actually be a very relatable and played brilliantly by Oliva Cole! I have to say though I´m VERY curious to see where this show goes from here. My thoughts after the claimed dragons this episode plus the strong hint of Balea going to claim the wild Dragon... "Isn´t this GG? Isn´t Team black so overpowered with the dragon advantage now that it´s just over?" I´m sure people who red the book know (and please don´t outright spoil it) but for me that´s a really puzzling development 🤔 Last but not least the "Book purists" for this show always make me chuckle a bit. The whole "the books are the holy text they are RUINING it" crowd is as old as movies and you´re not gonna change that but for this show in particular... they act like there is this exhaustive novel series of finely detailed out characters and nuanced dialoge when all we have is GRRMs "Simiarilian - Idea dump" historical recount. And getting worked up up "authors integrity/book supremacy/purity" when there literally is no novel for this story does make me roll my eyes a bit I must admit 😅

I think the series changes which remove the perceived agency, control, and mastery of characters works really well to mirror the themes of how the dance of dragons reveals those who were thought to be powerful gods to be imperfect, not all powerful, meat

As an Indian I see a lot of parallels with casteism and caste hierarchy and how upward mobility is gatekept. Again the whole 'better people'. and the monks represent the priest class who say xyz cannot enter the temple because they are of a lower caste etc etc

PS No matter how many dragon-riding bastards come forward, and how much Targaryen / 'noble' blood they have in them, there is only one true heir to the throne. Jace is basically accusing his mother of having more bastards out there and anticipating she will give her crown to one of them. The rules are changing. Jace better step up his game then. Instead of whinging, why didn't Jace himself get in there and try to claim Vermithor? Prove yourself most worthy of your mother's crown. Prove It All Life.

The only thing that separates dragon seeds or Targaryen bastards from the noble House is the customs and laws of the realm. But by blood and biology they are of the Targaryen family. And the dragons remind people that they don’t care about political and social institutions and norms, about status and privileges that humans make up, they only see the blood and the genes. As far as the Dragons are concerned these bastard dragon seeds are Targaryens, dragon blood of Valyria. And who are people to argue with Dragons? The trick the dragonlords pulled is claiming that only the purest blooded and therefore those within the elite dragon houses could bond, when in reality the inheritance of any dragon’s blood made one capable of bonding. Perhaps less of a chance the more diluted the dragon’s blood is but still you don’t have to be a “pure blood.”

Jace's feelings vs. Winter is coming. Hm... The noble Jace should maybe stop pouting. People will look more favorably on him. Stop pouting and honor his noble father's and grandfather's memories. Jace wants justice. Does his father and grandfather not deserve some? Why did Luke have to be the one to die? Poor Jace.
