God I almost thought this was Lakeside for a moment based on the thumbnail before I read the name. Sad to see the Taubman malls disappearing one by one.

How old is this video? The theater closed in this mall a few months ago, at least I thought so.
@Mapmaker1559Retail12 күн бұрын
This video is roughly a year old, as mentioned in the intro. Yes, the theater has sadly closed among many other inline tenants.

Lord & Taylor, Sears, LL Bean, Starbucks w/ outdoor seating are all sorely missed. This mall is doing better than most, but still a shadow of its former self.

I live here Winchester. I go to the mall once in a while. I did a video couple years ago talking about. Like the older stores in the mall that don't exist anymore. Kind of like a history of Apple blossom Mall. Good video I like it.

Awesome video. I grew up 30 minutes away from the mall and honestly miss Maryland a ton.

The main department stores of the Chambersburg Mall are JCPenney, Sears, The Bon-Ton and Burlington Coat Factory. I remember that three of those department stores of this dying mall are part of another dying mall that became a shopping center. JCPenney, Sears and The Bon-Ton. Those were also part of the Martinsburg Mall along with Walmart which was left alone and now part of the new shopping center known as Foxcroft Town Center. JCPenney became Hobby Lobby and The Bon-Ton became Grand Home Furnishing. Sears, although due to bankruptcy, was shut down and demolished in 2013 leaving that part of the foundation of that environment alone. The Martinsburg Mall was opened in 1992 and closed down on November the 1st in 2016 except Walmart because everyone in Martinsburg still shop there.

It's good to see a thriving mall with so many going under. Where I live we still have a thriving mall as well, but several others in my area have been torn down. It's like a piece of my childhood went with them.

Interesting fact -- the county jail (Dauphin County Prison) is located literally right behind this mall, and there used to be a Toys R Us behind the mall as well. You could see the jail from the Toys R Us parking lot. As a kid, i always found it comical that there was a jail located so close to the Toys R Us.

Hats off to the maintenance crew for keeping it up. It looks like this mall was once the place to hang out in it's prime. Like so many others because of Amazon and Ebay it is going out of business.

I've been to MacArthur since I was a kid and Y-E-A-H, it's depressing that it's now a bare bones of it's former self with a lot of stores gone like FYE for example or how Forever 21 used to be a Jeepers 😕

Did someone think to dig up and relocate all the plants in the mall? Plant them outside where they can get sunshine and rain and at least stand a chance of surviving? If just abandoned and left in the mall with no water they will soon all wither and die, that's not great, they were planted inside the mall for the shoppers and now they are just left to die.
@Mapmaker1559Retail9 ай бұрын
A lot of the plants were taken by patrons on the last day of the mall's operation. A few were unfortunately left to die.

:( this mall dying makes me so sad. This wasn't my main mall when I lived in this area (it was the capital city mall across the river which afaik is still thriving) but any time i came here it was so exciting. Seemed like it was doing pretty well as recently as the mid-late 2010s but it went into a death spiral sometime around when covid hit :/ sucks to see it closing so soon

This mall certainty is a shell of itself from what it was back in the 80s and 90s. This place was packed back then on weekends with lots of people. Hess's patio restaurant on the 2nd floor was a staple in our family when I was little. My Grandparents would eat there all the time. My Mom worked at JC Penny and Buster Browns. I still remember Woolworths. Did the best cheeseburgers.

So the fountain has a metal fence around it so I guess this means that no one can fall into the fountain since you can't get anywhere near it cause of that.
