Can i make bronze utensils with this bronze
@DuralMetalurg
@DuralMetalurg 17 күн бұрын
Theoretically you can, though you need to be 100% sure that there are no metals like, for example, lead. Lead or other poisonous metals can be in many alloys. I wouldn't recommend it in DIY projects using multiple alloys

hello, thanks for the video! i welded a crucible like yours and before using i noted that if i fill it with water there are some little leakage caused by my shit weldings.... should it be a problem for melting aluminium (i think it shouldn't cause alu is not so liquid as water) ? did you try if your second crucible had some leakages before using it?

@DuralMetalurg
@DuralMetalurg 5 ай бұрын
He means what this word means in metallurgy. You can find the meaning of this word in Wikipedia under coke (fuel). I copied the description for you: "Coke is a grey, hard, and porous coal-based fuel with a high carbon content and few impurities, made by heating coal or oil in the absence of air-a destructive distillation process."

Good stuff, I've been wanting to make a hatchet out of a copper alloy/bronze. I'd like beryllium copper but I wouldn't wanna be melting beryllium at home ☠️ I've read that Beryllium copper has a Rockwell C hardness of 40 even 45 sometimes depending on the beryllium content, and a higher tensile resilience than alu bronze. But beryllium has some potential health issues if handled poorly. And I don't wanna wear gloves and a mask every time I'd have to strop my edge. There's appearently some hope for titanium copper. Supposedly as good as Beryllium copper but totally safe. But titanium is expensive :(

No, unfortunately you still need to burn it out. Obviously 1000 C is a huge temperature but PLA is not a foam. It won't just disappear.

I’m sorry but what exactly is coke in this context ?
@DuralMetalurg
@DuralMetalurg Жыл бұрын
Here you go. Copied this explanaitation from Wikipedia: Coke is a grey, hard, and porous coal-based fuel with a high carbon content and few impurities, made by heating coal or oil in the absence of air-a destructive distillation process. It is an important industrial product, used mainly in iron ore smelting, but also as a fuel in stoves and forges when air pollution is a concern.

Aren't you worried about lead fumes?
@DuralMetalurg
@DuralMetalurg Жыл бұрын
Hi. There is no need to worry because lead boiling temperature is 1750 C, which was unrealistic for me to achieve. So you can't get any lead fumes without boiling it. Any fumes you can see in my videos is zinc because its boiling temperature is about 900 C and such fumes can't have long term effect even if you breathe them.
