My country OLD standart is a a way similiar. As you have a live wirr and ground coming to the socket and create neutral by jumping a cable from it to the ground connection in the socket. Been like that for many years until i thunk late 90s didn't live during that time but i know as i have many books and techers / seniors.

Why would garage door sensors be up in the attic?
@ArlingtonInspector
@ArlingtonInspector 5 ай бұрын
Some people do not like having the sensors but the opener will not work property without them. So mount them in the attic, "out of sight, out of mind". We have discovered this several times.

I suspect that the neutral feed from the transformer was missing. Theoretically, any kind of load on those GFCIs would cause it to trip. I don't think that those beeping "glow stick" things he was using actually detects current. You can have an extension cord plugged into nothing and thus there's no current, but the glow stick will beep when placed near it.

Wow! How in the world did the electric pass inspection?!?! Unless it's as you said and a screw went through both hot and ground wires maybe when sheetrock was installed and after inspection was done?
@step4560
@step4560 Жыл бұрын
It might have been fine during inspection. I had a friend whose parent house had a window that was "hot" as in 120V to a ground. When they washed the windows they would always get shocked. I finally traced the problem to a cover plate by the front door that had a long drywall-screw that bridged the neutral to the hot. The proper screw fixed their problem...
